Hopefully just a simple question this: I've found that I can open a PDF in AI cc 2019 that I created in AI cc 2019 weeks after it was last saved and there's no difference between the PDF and opening the original AI file. No formatting is lost or screwed up (as when AI opens PDFs made by someone else or in another app). Awesome. Except that sometimes it doesn't work like that and the PDF I've saved out of AI cc 2019 behaves as if it's someone elses PDF or a PDF made in any other app. Either it's screwed up, with all area type converted to random point type objects, or I get that alert about "linked PDFs/one page or all?". Obviously if you've ever seen that you'll know it's not a good sign and that, should you choose to embed the linked PDF pages they will really be of any use. So what's the consistency here? What am I doing wrong? Is it a version change issue that happens when you Update your Illustrator? Many thanks.

Agreed Kenomine, I found a while ago that doing the opposite of what seemed logical regarding that check box did preserve my old settings. I hope that nasty bug has been resolved by now.

This is a great thread but the answer marked correct is NOT the correct answer. I found a lot of Google results from old versions of PS or Photoshop Elements saying the same but, if this option isn't available in this context (ei- except via the LEGACY gif export dialogue) then Warren's answer cannot be said to be correct. Appreciate all the useful advice of course. I'd mark Warrens answer of 17-Sep-2018 23:34 or Jessleehunter's answer of 11-Apr-2018 12:21 correct. ...and can Adobe please fix their ME code!!

I made my gif by using the Video Timeline in Photoshop CC 2019 and then exported it as an mp4 (only available option- NO GIF EXPORT!) I ten took my mp4 through Adobe Media Encoder to get it saved as a gif. Checking that gif back in Photoshop showed that the white background had changed to #fbfbfb (transparent gif background was not an option). As the gif is not in indexed colour the colour table trick to correct this is not available to me (greyed out). Change to Index colour flattens the gif layers.

I wonder who's checking the quality of the coder's work over at Adobe- so many little flaws and bugs. Almost every workflow beyond the most basic becomes a nightmare of Support look-ups.

thanks Doug. Is that what people do now then? I've been concentrating on static work for over a decade now and need to get to grips with web animation again. Whatever's the most conventional and widely-adopted workflow/tools is the way I'd like to go!

I see the future of web animation as animated svg/HTML5. Is there a current Adobe Product (or free/cheap competitor) in which I can create web animation and that can provide me with a fairly easy WYSIWYG UI? Thanks creative folks!

Hi folks, If you love isometric art as much as I do then you'll doubtless be familiar with Illustrator's perspective grids, 3D Extrude and Bevel/Rotate and even have your own set of Actions for iso transforms. I've been dipping back in to it lately with some nice results (see image below) and it occurred to me that there's got to be a better way to produce iso art in AI than using the 3D stuff piecemeal? To explain: I'm looking for a method that allows one to plan a layout flat, say based on a grid, and have elements extruded up from that grid to different heights in iso perspective. Currently the flat plan bears a weird relationship to the extruded elements and all your objects have to be the same height of extrusion! Anyone know of a good process/tutorial that achieves what I'm after? Below: flat plan with a (dotted) square perimeter object that retains the relative positioning of all objects within the same Group. This square can be hidden or shown but even hidden it preserve the relative positioning of the two coloured squares within the flat grid base. Below: Same with the whole Group extruded. Below: the blue path and grey island are two objects easily extruded in iso but the coloured towers had to be manually repositioned (not ideal).

Back on topic is right! I find that "Branhed to a new discussion" a bit confusing, especially when I get alerts in my inbox to a conversation about PS on the iPad, etc! This thread is the place for discussion about the insane decisions regarding Transform due to poor leadership at Adobe.

Transform selection used to be different (inconsistent). Guess they've changed it in an update. Personally I shall be using the note pad hack.

Thank you so much jane-e, I'll just do it in Word as, remarkable, the results are very similar and it's more modern and user-friendly in this regard. I will watch that series over lunch today though, Thanks

Hi, I'm making some pretty nice graphs using imported data in Illustrator but, when I have more than 9 bars, I find the default greyscale colours are limited to just 9 shades. This means that (as I believe we have no colour options available within the Graph Tool dialogue) I have a hard time of it re-colouring the generated bars. With a lot of bars and pie-segments to recolour I just don't know what's what- the same shade of grey is used for 4 different clients in my graph. Is there something in the dialogues I'm overlooking or is AI limited to just 9 shades of grey?

Marking Correct as I can't find a better way in 2019 to do this. AE is a bit of a full-on complex solution for this task but it's a great tutorial and I thank you There's clearly a gap in the market here that should, to my mind, be filled by native functionality in both AI and An.

I'm trying to produce really simple animated svgs for websites. Snap.svg has been "retracted by the Partner" on the Adobe Extensions site and there are broken links (& tutorials depending on it) all over the web. The GitHub pages seem confused. I tried tyburn's svg animation plugin but it failed to export a moving svg, whatever settings I used. My question is this: What is the best free (or Adobe) WYSIWYG svg animation editor that you've personal experience of using, available in 2019? Thanks PS- I'm obviously getting frustrated that, what I believe should be a simple task catered for by either AI or An, or both, should be missing from those apps!

Is Snap.svg dead? I see the snap.svg home page is still up but seem to be getting a lot of 404s form everywhere and Adobe add-ons declares it as "retracted". Anyone else?

Yes, but these threads underline to Adobe the level of discontent with this decision, so it's best to keep it going. Feature requests and bug reports do get noticed but here is where most people come looking for answers so it is also true that Adobe take notice of these forums. I only hope they don't require EVERYONE who uses their apps to complain about an issue before they take action to correct it

So I've taken time to get my Workspace set up the way I like it (quite a few tweaks, etc) then my original Workspace gets deleted by an Update (not within my control). Now I just want to get that top dock back to where it was. Isn't there a way to get that back without having to start from scratch (Essentials) customising the whole set up again?

Yeah, it should be the default so why isn't it? Why isn't it half the time in the same program or in Illustrator or on a Tuesday? Dumbass decision.
