After Effects

Hello guys, I am slowly trying to learn after effects and there is a big question that always bugs me and I can't figure it out. Say I have this comp, which is too cluttered, as you can see.So I want to pre-comp it in order to clear the space, and of course in order to animate the whole spaceship at once.The problem is that, when I pre-comp and then try to add a background image, the image doesn't appear and the new composition background stays black, no matter what I do.Blending modes don't help.And I don't know what to do. I have tried the shift channels effects and the linear color key effect, but i can't get them to work. Also, transparent grid is checked as the images show.What is the solution here? Thanks for any input!!

I used to be able to create a marker by pressing Shift + a number, and then jump to a specific marker by pressing the corresponding number. But it suddenly dones't work now. Here are more detailed informaiton:1. The other marker related shortcuts still work2. I reset shortcut setting to default still can't solve the preoblem(also turn off all other applications to avoid potential shortcuts conflicts)3. I tried different shortcut combination it works successfully, as shown in the image below.Anyone know the reasons? Thanks for your help.

Hello,  I've just exported a film I've made on After Effects but have found the shots have lost a significant amount of quality from the 4k originals (see attachments - the first is the AE export, the second is the 4k original), any tips on how to fix this? Kind regards

Hi , I am very new to after effects, I am open to learning anything needed. I need to make a Multiple clone scene ( the link i have attached below ) similar to the clip. I have taken the shots without the Mocobot ie just a left to right panning shot 7 times , as it involves 7 clones. Could anyone help me how should I edit it so that i can see mutliple clones in the clip. Also there seems to be a little problem with the timing of the 7 clips , one starts to pan early where as other starts to pan a little late ( which i believe requires frame to frame editing).When I masked the clones it does not overlap correctly over the Base Layer, I started editing frame by frame (it took hours for one sec ) but even then the results were poor and is there any way to do it better and quicker . Every clip was captured at 60fps 4k in an iphone. I own a laptop with 16gb RAM and 3050 graphics, I request you share your opinion on how to edit in simple terms as I am just a beginner. Lin

Hi, So I start The fish animation by making it a bit slanted. (0.6 degree) That was to be the original position. I thought I will apply angle control to animate rotation without hampering the initial potition ( slanted body position,0.6 degree). But when I apply angle control the initial rotation becomes 0. I Want the body to be staying in that slanted position and want another rotation animation on that slanted position and I want a loop out animation on that secondary rotation values and  also this new rotation loop needs to match the rythm of  position Y loop. How can I do it. any way? I tried making 0.6 a 2nd keyframe value, as pause, and start animating after that, it destroys the sync. It looks as if the fish suddenly starts rotating in a weird way. Thank you. 

Hi, I'm looking to create two effects, however, I couldn't find it anywhere. I want to achieve the effect of darkening a specific area. Particularly clothes in the rain, where I want to edit how the raindrops are absorbed in individual places. Also I would like to ask, how to edit a bulge effect in a way, where the center of the effect stay in place, but it will affect the layer only in specific direction Example: Thank you, Vojtěch 

Does anyone know of a repeater plugin that would enable me to apply a repeater effect to images like PNG or JPEG files in After Effects? I know how to do it with vector files that you then convert to shape layers. And I know there are workarounds for adding a repeater effect to images like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVOBkECRLKQ But I was hoping there might be some plugin I haven't come across yet that simplifies this task. I've heard of Trapcode Echospace but it's very expensive. I believe you need Trapcode for that which costs over $400.  Thank you in advance for any help with this.  

Is it possible to link a Layer’s opacity to more than one dropdown? For example if I want two specific dropdown options to be selected in order for a layer to be visible, what would that code look like?Right now, it's just tying the opacity to the second dropdown (Team 1) listed below. I shot some footage in HDR for a movie, but that movie is going to be edited in SDR and rendered in SDR, I only shot it in HDR because they were dark scenes with strong light sources, so although I didn't get the same result in SDR as HDR, the information was recorded and so I could see if I wanted to expose the footage for highlights or for shadows, and to simply have more information to work with.When I imported the HDR footage into the SDR after-effects, it didn't look good at all, but that's obvious, and I was already out of it, so I did what I'm supposed to, “Interpret footage --> Main --> Color) and changed the color space of the HDR videos to REC.709, because that was the one that gave me the best results, then I just adjusted the footage with some effects and it looked amazing.The problem is, only 10% of the frames look beautiful, the other 90% are totally buggy, and it seems to be totally random.I know for a fact that it's not the video, because the VLC player I use auto

After effects just stopd making any soud at all. I tryed evething, preview sound its on, tryed diferent audio outputs (headphone and sound monitors). I even reinstalled after effectsThe sound works fine in premiere and all other aplications  Anyone has any Idea what might be? thanks

I want to include a particle emitter that emits different texts from a central point in my project. But I can't find the proper tutorial online to learn from, instead I get text dissolving into particles.I would like to do one without external plug-ins, since they are quite pricey.

I would like a function to load your own custom keyboard shortcuts from a previous version of AE. Currently you can only save them, why not add the ability to load them from a previous version so you don't have to redo them every time you update After Effects

I’m trying to create a typewriter effect, where text appears letter by letter, and whenever an end of line is reached, it the text scrolls one line upwards.  It needs to be moving in sync with the audio, so I need to be able to add pauses and holds. I have inherited a project where this has been done in an incredibly complicated way, but I'm wondering if there might be a plug in or some code that could help?? Thanks in advance

My after effect randomly stopped opening my previous wroks and all of my projects are missing when I open After Effects. (33::4) After Effects error: missing data in file. What could I do to fix this problem?I tried redownloading the previous version of After Effcts and that didnt help neither. 😞

I have a problem, I can't find extendscript in my After Effects, I already tried installing it, but I cannot find it in Creative Cloud, any solutions to this? because I do not have the "open script" option under file>script

As I'm previewing my edit on after effects, I can't hear anything but background music of the video. I tried turning up the audio levels and all I hear is background music of the video, till I then realized the audio for it is HEVC. I remember it was h.264 before because I used to make an edit of the same video and heard people talking in the video, but now all of a sudden, it's hevc so I can't hear it but just background music which I do not want. I want to convert but the video I'm using is a whole movie cause I'm making an edit of a movie. I tried converting it but it took WAY too long. Any way to solve this?

bro, I just installed Cinema 4D R24.111, but it can't render in Adobe Media Encoder. What's the cause? because before installing Cinema 4D there was no problem rendering in the media encoder for MP4 format. please advise 🙏

Hi, I have a shape layer with:- A group containing a Horizontal Rectangle and Circle placed on the far right of the rectangle, the anchor point of the group is place far left of the rectangle- A have a second Rectangle outside the group, a vertical Rectangle this time place on the far right of the first rectangle (Perpendicular), same as the position of the circle in the first group earlier I'm trying to rotate the first group (remember i shifted the anchorpoint) and also want the second rectangle to follow through and the first group as if it were parented to the first group What expression can i use to solve this issue Thank you for feedback 

Hello everyone,I have an important scene that I need to track with the 3D Camera Tracker. It works initially, but I have a big problem: After Effects recognizes the background tracking points as the foreground and the foreground tracking points as the background. As a result, all my targets are flipped.Since I need to further process the data in Blender later, I need accurate 3D points.I have already tried the "detailed analysis" and clicked through all the other settings directly in the Camera Tracker. The problem remains the same. Can't After Effects be told somehow that a certain point is in front of another point so that it can solve the camera again and correct the error? Is there another way to improve the tracking so that the depth is correct? Unfortunately, in the shot, there was a lot of panning and zooming, but hardly any forward or backward movement, and therefore no parallax. Thank you very much for any input. Best regards 

Hi, I have a problem with my adobe after effects. When I click on a previous composition I've saved or make a new one the stage screen thing (I don't know the proper name) doesn't show up. It just stays on what you see in the screenshot above (new composition or new composition from footage). My layers show up and everything else but not the stage. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Deleting personal preferences, and restarting over and over again but nothing works. Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help would be much appreciated

I'm running AE 2020 on Mac Mojave 10.14.3. When I double click on a text layer in my timeline AE does not highlight the text in the comp window to make it editable.  Any time I attempt to double click a text layer to start editing it I get the Mac system error sound. It's a minor problem but it just throws off the pace of my whole workflow.  BONUS ISSUE: Im also having to click twice in my comp window to start the creation of a shape layer, text layer or even when creating a mask. I feel like these two issues are rooted in the same thing.   Title edited by Mod
