After Effects

Hi I hope someone can help with this issue I'm having.I have a composition with some stock footage of some smoke on a black background. I've changed the blending mode to screen so that I can put the smoke over other footage, which is fine, it works great. But then I want to duplicate the effect and make alterations in a new composition to bring it on other a different part of the back ground footage. So I make a new comp, copy over the smoke, and it has its black background back, only this time I can not get rid of it even when changing the blending mode to screen. Has anyone else encountered this issue please?

Whenever I try to move a window or object, highlight text, or try to drag something on the timeline in After Effects, my cursor disappears. It is visible on every other part of AE. Can someone please help with this?

I'm making an tweening animation in after effects, and whever I hit play to see the things I've animated, like the arm, it lags a lot and doesn't play the video like it should. What should I do? I'm gonna post a photo of the project here:

I'm animating a video and the pop up says: "a file could not be found". I've replaces all the files with the body parts for the animation expect for one. I've tried to do the "replace footage" but the layers gets all misplaces when I do so. What should I do? Here's a photo:

Hello! I've been trying to make a script that reads the Effects applied to an AVLayer, and make an exact copy in the root Comp that the layer lives. Eventually the idea would be to connect both effects via expressions. The idea behind this is to be able to promote control of the effects within a Comp to the outside of the comp, that way some things can be tweaked from the outside instead of having to delve into the comp, look for the layer and make the alterations in there.  I;

 everytime i try to use a preset it says "contains a reference to a missing effect. please install the following effect to restore this reference." says i'm missing s_shake , wiggle and shake and wiggle. please help i've been trying to solve this for 3 days but nothing on the Internet seems to help.

I've imported a 3D asset that was edited in Dimension. The model seems to have a light source, which I'm trying to edit, as it casts a darker shadow than I would like, but Layer > Light is greyed out. I've checked and adjusted the lights in Dimension, but it doesn't seem to be coming from here. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks! 

Folks, I[m new to the forum, and also english is not my native language, so I hope to make my problem clear.When I edit a path applied to a footage, while I[m moving for example a point of a path, my footage becames very pixelated. This slows down my workflow, because It makes difficult to fine tune the position of the pathAny clue_Best regards

Hi,I am planning to create an animation in which several shapes such as circles, rectangles, and triangles move along a particular path. I want the shapes to follow the path automatically whenever I move the path of the shape layer, without having to add a keyframe manually. This is different from an orient path.I'm expecting your valuable suggestions on this, Thanks !!animation

I'm trying to do a simple text reveal animation. I created a shape to cover the text. For whatever reason, Track Matte isn't giving me any matte options. It's only showing the layers in the composition when I click the drop down arrow. Any help?  

hi there! hopefully I'm just somehow missing something and need an assist. I am on a Mac Studio OS Sonoma 14.1.2I use shortcuts a lot, one of them being the cmd + m to send comp to render. However, it instead minimizes the screen. Which I understand is a system setting and not an app setting.  However, if I go to Edit --> keyboard shortcuts --> and then actually change nothing, merely open the keyboard shortcuts menu options, then that shortcut works again. However, it does not retain it once I've closed out of After Effects and returned later.  I consider myself to be relatively savvy on these things and I'm stumped and super frustrated. Thanks!

So I installed after effect in my new gamer PC which has these specs: - AMD Razon 7- 32 GB RAM - 1000GB SSD - RTX 4060 I tried to do a simple 2 keyframes position animation of a shape, but the animation is choppy and it shows  in the info panel that the frame rate is not in real time.Knowing that the Skip value is 0 on the preview panel also, yet I get a very choppy animation.

I have the creative cloud license, and After Effects 24.1 installed. I am using a Surface Laptop Studio and usually have an eGPU plugged in. Its a Razer Core X Chroma with a Nvidia 3060ti. I have both Nvidia and Intel drivers installed on my computer. When the eGPU is plugged in, the software works fine, using the GPU for acceleration and everything. The problem arises when I dont have the computer doced to the eGPU. When I open AE, or a few other Adobe software that uses GPU acceleration, the software will open to the splash screen and crash. for AE specifically, it gets to 'initializing mediacore' for a few seconds before crashing.  I think it's the same issue from this post because I have Nvidia drivers but no Nvidia GPU plugged in. But I cant just uninstall the drivers like in that instance. Any ideas? 

Hi! My after effects is not importing photoshop files at all anymore. My photoshop file is in RGB mode- so thats not the issue. I cannot select a layer anymore. It simply uploads the whole file and it says that it is uploading but nothing happens. it worked fine until yesterday. This morning i emptied the disc cache. Since then this has been happening. I work on AppleM2 Mac and i use the newest After effects version. This problem does also happen with other Photoshop files. I have restarted everything also allready. Nothing helps. I´ve added a screenshot of what happens on my screen. Thanks for HELP!!!!!!!

Because the script command precompose() does not have a corresponding syntax to manually precomp the option checkbox called ‘Adjust composition duration to the time span of the selected layers’, I manually specified the start and end times. However, I found thatvar start = 30; var end = 60 ; var preComp = app.project.activeItem.layers.precompose([layer.index], layer.name,true); preComp.startTime = start; preComp.duration = end - start;These lines have been executed successfully, but the start time of the precomp is still at time 0 on the timeline. What’s going on? 

I'm running the latest AE on Windows 11, and now I cannot output anything.  First I started getting "Error 10::48, Unimplemented Function" while trying to play the timeline, and now when I try to output, I'm getting Error 20, which just says an unexpected error occured while exporting, please restart AE and try again.  So I've done that, but still the same errors.  Between the time that it was working and now, I have made no changes to the system or any settings. Does anyone any idea what might wrong or have any suggestions? Thank you!

I am new to After Effects.How do I make each individual letter of a word follow a path but with slight delay? Do I have to create a path for the individual letters?

Hi, allMy name is Andy Diesel. I have been working on this project for a long time, but my masks have recently stopped working. This simple motion graphics project depends on sequentially adjusting the masks' opacity to reveal their contents.The masked layer has no effects; every mask is 'Add'ed in. As seen in my reference, I'd removed one to test further, but there was still no change. I can only expect that I mistakenly pushed the wrong quick key since my other sequences of the same kind are still working. While I scroll through this project, there is no sign of why they're no longer working.I am using the 13" Macbook Pro M1 2020 with 8Gig RAM.I use Adobe Creative Cloud.(I did recently downgrade my After Effects to the 2023 version due to too high a demand on my internal memory) If you have any questions, please ask. I would greatly appreciate the external input.

Always when I import a video or a picture on After Effects it looks pixelated, I look for a 4k quality and still looks  pixelated, I don't know what else to do. Please help me, this is stressing me out so bad and I really wanted to do my videos on ae, I install and uninstall it again?

Hello all! I'm looking for help on how to start and end a motion graphic background on the same frame. I'm looking to make motion graphic backgrounds for my church that start and end seemlessly. I'm still new to Adobe After Effects. Any help is greatly appreciated. Also how long do the graphic need to be in terms of time? I will attach a file to this post that I downloaded from Adobe stock as an example of what I'm looking for. 🙂 

Hey, guys im facing a bizarre issue where the video keeps getting exported in 4k and not in the desired resolution that I have selected in the composition setting. Do you have any idea?
