after effects doesn't open, if open crass message came slove this problem.
I am new to Adobe After Effects. I saw a video and am trying to duplicate an animation effect they did. However, shortly into the video they select the pen tool, and then a little to the right in the toolbar, you can clearly see options for what I believe are "fill" (or color) and "stroke" before the rotobezier checkbox. (Yes I know, it's in Spanish, apologies.)However, in my toolbar when I click the pen, I don't get these same buttons/tools/whatever:I have tried messing around in menus, looking all over the place, but I cannot seem to figure this out - can anyone help me get those two options into my toolbar?
Many years ago, I did a request on the now-defunct AE uservoice for the opposite of a ‘guide layer’ - a ‘render only’ layer, for this situation:If I have an effects-heavy adjustment layer that I don’t want to preview because it’s so slow, I’ll turn it off in my comp. Then when I’m happy, I’ll set the comp to render. I’ll then check that exported .mov/mp4/etc, and get annoyed because I then realise that I forgot to turn that adjustment layer back on before I set it rendering, so I then have to do another render.Sound familiar? If we could set a layer to “render only”, then it would remain turned off until we did the final render. The exact opposite of a Guide Layer.Let’s get this upvoted and implemented (after all these years!!).This is along the lines of an age-old question from this forum:
Hi Community... is there a way or an expression that can be applied to an effect so that it will be off while you're working, but is on when you render? For instance, I'm using the pixel blur effect, and it slows down my interactivity while I'm working, but would like it available in the renders. This is possible in any node in Nuke. And I think it has something to do with the opacity, because that's where you set the expression. It's very handy. Are there any "render only" flags in the expressions? best, Fred
I think I may have suggested this many years ago, but it's worth another go:What are the chances of seeing a character/paragraph style palette in AE? I'm sure I'm not alone in finding the method of copying/pasting a bit of text from a "desired" style into a new text layer, before deleting it and pasting/typing some unformatted text, so it matches the desired style. With the introduction, some time ago, of the ability to access text styles/fonts/etc via scripting/expressions, I'd have thought it wouldn't be too hard to implement an InDesign/Illustrator character style palette. Wouldn't that be nice? (I know I could probably do this using mogrt templates and things, but that's an awkward and time-consuming workaround).
I’d like to see AE have the ability to ignore missing frames in a sequence in the same way that Nuke can do it. Currently we have two options when importing e.g. animation that’s been rendered on twos for previewing. We can ignore missing frames and have the hideous missing footage screen show every other frame, making previewing impossible. Or we can import sequences on twos with “Force Alphabetical Order” enabled, which removes the first problem but then does not respect frame numbers. Neither is very user friendly. Nuke has an option to just ignore missing frames such that a sequence can be viewed with missing frames simply holding from the last available image in a sequence.
Good evening everyone.I'm using ChatGPT because my English isn't very good.Like many other users, i've been experiencing major issues with the latest version of After Effects. Despite working on a PC with 128 GB of RAM, a 32-core CPU, an RTX 4090, and an ultra-fast SSD dedicated to the cache, After Effects has become practically unusable. Not only am i constantly running into "Out of Memory" errors, but the entire system eventually becomes unstable and unresponsive. It's been a complete disaster. After searching all over the internet, i finally managed to get things working again by applying the following changes. i have no idea whether all of them are related to the fix or if only one of them is actually responsible, but it certainly doesn't hurt to try:Disable idle caching in the Composition Preview: Composition > Preview > Cache Frames When Idle. Disable Enable Compressed Frames in the Disk Cache options. Reduce the Idle Delay value in Preferences > Preview to a very low numb
Affects at least the Windows version, problems primarily show up on NVIDIA(tested on drivers 610.88 and 610.47).This started with a beta tester for one of my plugins reporting that in AE2025(and not the earlier versions) the plugin occassionally hangs or crashes.I managed to to replicate this on 25.2.2(I was unable to get the later 2025 versions to run *at all*)so I went ahead to try and diagnose the issue. The hang case was odd and a lot of time was spent chasing down red herrings, one of AEs hundreds of threads just seemed to be getting stuck in an exception handler, and some of the attempted fixes just turned it into a crash.I then went and downloaded the latest version - 26.3.0 and look at that, this one managed to reproduce the crash out of the box.The crash case turned out to be far more helpful and eventually I tracked both of them down to a stack overflow in nvwgf2umx.dllEverything I was seeing turned out to map to a known issue https://github.com/getsentry/sentry-native/issues/
I am unable to interact with shortcuts on the search bar on the "Replace Footage/File" Dialog Box from the Project panel. After effects 25.5.0 Build 4Meaning I cannot paste the long file name I just copied and have to manually type. I cannot copy or select the text neither. It has happened on both macOS Tahoe and also macOS Sequoia. Please fix this
Photoshop displays a "Scratch Disks are full" prompt during startup or rendering even though the primary drive has ample free storage.
I’m trying to add a feature to my panels so they can be closed using the ESC key. The code below is just a basic test. When I run it and press ESC, it works the first few times. However, after about 5 to 10 presses, I start getting the attached error.I’ve tried several workarounds, including using scheduled tasks, but the error always shows up after a while. It also completely ignores my try-catch block. Can you explain why the error happens on the .close() line, and if there is a better way to close a window using the ESC key? Reference code for test:var palette = new Window("palette");palette.text = "Dialog";var button1 = palette.add("button", undefined, undefined, { name: "button1"});button1.text = "Button";button1.onClick = function () { palette.close();};palette.cancelElement = button1;try { palette.addEventListener("keydown", function (k) { if (k.keyName == "Escape") { palette.close(); } });} catch (e) { /* Ignore registration errors */ }pal
I’ve been using a competing vector program for creating braille signage and wondered if there was any plans on having this be something Illustrator or Indesign could incorporate natively so that I can stop using the other program entirely? The workflow currently with adobe products is:go to some conversion web page like brailletranslator.orgpaste text in for the conversion, copy resultsgo back into my Indesign doc using a braille font with a CA Standard paragraph style (that I’ve created) This works for making 1-10 signs, but I’d prefer to have this be something I was able to merge from a CSV file as we typically need to create 100 individual signs at a time--which the competing program will also not do. It does however have a TEXT TO BRAILLE and BRAILLE TO TEXT option from the TEXT menu and a panel that looks a little like this:
I'm a long-time InDesign user trying to help my company's motion graphics team get more use out the CC libraries that our print designers use all the time. We have robust Paragraph and Character Styles in our CC libraries, but I can't find any definitive information about whether they are accessible in After Effects or not. They appear greyed out in the Library panel, so I'm thinking they aren't usable but that seems crazy that something so useful would be cut off from a group who still uses type so much. Am I missing something or are After Effects users really limited to shared colors and graphics in CC libraries?
I saw this reference. -https://www.instagram.com/p/DcAvkW6DZVo/?igsh=bGp6d2Q0amRycm9iand really liked it. It is clearly based on images, turns them into particles, and morphs them. Is this possible in AE or does it look more like an effect in a 3D software? Thanks,J
After Effects should allow users to add multiple instances of the same Layer Style—such as multiple strokes, inner shadows, drop shadows, glows, and overlays—and freely drag them into any order.Photoshop already supports stacking several instances of certain Layer Styles, but After Effects limits each layer to one of each style and uses a fixed render order. Currently, achieving these looks requires duplicating layers or repeatedly precomposing, which makes projects cluttered and harder to edit. Please make Layer Styles stackable, reorderable, and saveable as presets while keeping the original text, shape, or layer fully editable.
Hi everyone,I’m writing to bring attention to ongoing, severe performance issues in After Effects starting from the 2025 releases. As a paying Creative Cloud subscriber, the current state of the software has severely impacted my workflow and daily productivity. I cannot work anymore smoothly with the latest AE versions. The Key Issues: Memory & Resource Spikes: Rapid, unexplained RAM/disk usage leading to lag and full app freezes. Preview & Timeline Lag: Severe slowdowns during simple composition playback and UI interaction compared to previous versions (e.g., AE 2024). System Instability: Frequent crashes and memory leak behaviors even when standard troubleshooting steps are taken (purging media cache, resetting preferences, allocation adjustments). Sudden File Incompatibility (MP4 & MOV): Files that worked fine previously—especially standard .mp4 and .mov containers—are suddenly throwing errors, failing to import, or displaying as unsupported/corrupted media without
I am migrating my multi-application video editing workstation to a new laptop. Not having a way to migrate my After Effects settings, workspaces, plugins, and scripts is incredibly disappointing and frustrating. It’s even more upsetting to see this used to be possible in After Effects a few years ago through the “Sync Settings” feature. Please add this feature back. Thank you.
Working on an animation project and I ran into an issue with a piece of text where the percentage was supposed to be listed. The text read “...greater than or equal to %25 of...” and I flagged it as a typo. However, when I tried to fix it, no matter what I did or where I copied the text from, my “25%” formatted to “%25”. Was working in v26, but the issue carried over when I downgraded to v25 as well.Haven’t had this issue with any other project. I just tested it in another recent project (also v25) and was able to type the percentages okay, so not sure if this is project specific, v26 specific, or user/formatting error. Saw another couple posts on the Photoshop forums with the same issue, but no real fix.Two things I noticed/did to resolve the issue. For some reason, Hindi digits was checked. I got my project file from another editor, so maybe they had it enabled. Unchecked that box. It may help others, although I saw no change. I selected all my text, went to the Text settings on the s
Hi There,I'm doing a School of Motion tutorial, and am a little confused on a very basic function. When I hold cmd, the anchor point of a shape layer does not snap to either the center or corners etc. When I hold cmd on other layers, like a vector shape or comp, the anchor point snaps.Would you have any idea why this isn't working for shape layers? I've tried toggling the snapping box on the toolbar, and that doesn't seem to change the functionality. Thanks!
Still spending hours rotoscoping frame by frame? With the latest version of After Effects, Object Matte introduces a faster, AI-powered way to isolate subjects—so you can create clean mattes with just a few clicks.Object Matte combines one-click selection + manual refinement + smart tracking, making rotoscoping significantly faster and more intuitive. What can you do with it?Instantly select and isolate objects using AI Automatically propagate mattes across frames Refine edges (like hair and fine details) with dedicated toolsPut it to use in your workflow: Remove or replace backgrounds (no green screen needed) Apply effects to specific objects Create clean composites for VFX and motion graphics How to use it Import your footage and add it to a composition Select the Object Matte Tool Click or drag to select your subject Let After Effects propagate the matte across frames Use refinement tools (like Refine Edge) if needed
I can't play through my sequence in Adobe After Effects my time bar keeps resetting mid session when I try to preview.
This strategy of dropping new features unannounced into a beta release isn't good enough. There seems to be a growing disconnect between users' needs and what Adobe is actually doing, and honestly it feels like the overall strategy is driven entirely by marketing people and has nothing to do with our requests or modern needs.Look at this forum, there are YEARS of requests ignored and bug reports coming up again and again. Every update just feels arbitrary at this point. The rotobrush improvements were great, but a long time coming. I often think AE is going to go the same way as Animate because it already feels like a legacy product because of such a profound lack of innovation - or maybe you have big plans for it? It would be nice to know.
So I open a file through either Recent or from selecting a file on the Welcome screen when I open AE… and go to save it, and it saves into the last folder I had used from a previous different client job. This has been a PITA for years now. PLEASE FIX!
I'm sure this has been posted before on here, but for visibility and emphasis how does AE not have a relinking system like Premiere after 10+ years?? I'm working on a particular project where despite all the assets being scattered across mutliple folders on a server, AE insists as relinking one by one. Most times I don't have this issue as it finds them on it's own, but for whatever reason it's going very slow, manually relinking file by file. This is on a collected project. Regardless of the reason or situation, it wouldn't be an issue if we had a relinking system like Premiere's file manager for footage. Is there some technical reason Adobe hasn't addressed or improved such an important function on large AE projects after a decade??
In after Effects, it is easy to drag a layer in time. For compositing, this can give problems, when it happens accidentally. Please make a ‘smpte’ lock - that keeps Layers on their time whatever happens. The current layer lock locks all modifications - that is not suitable to prevent time change, while working on color and effects.
