Feature Requests

Despite the 7 great mask-creation tools in Lightroom (I used iPad version), yesterday I needed to create a mask that they couldn't handle, so I had to send the photo to Photoshop, where the Magic Wand created my mask with ease. I've attached the photo in question so you can try for yourself. I wanted to mask everything except the sausage and bun.   This situation does not occur frequently for me, but often enough that I'm making this request. It would be SO awesome if you would add a Magic Wand mask tool to Lightroom. Thanks!     {Moved to correct board by Moderator} {Title edited by Moderator}

I have over 472K files in LRC (11.3.1) about 400K were not the current process version (less than 5). It took over a week of my time to upgrade the process versions.  The issue was that LR would be going along andhit a file that had something wrong with it from LR's perspective and quit the process version upgrade.  And all the ones that it had converted on the upgrade run stayed at their original process version. Additionally LRC did not indicate which was the bad file.  This require scrolling through in grid view thousands of photos slowly becase grid view had to open the file to discover that they were bad.  All in all a very cumbersome annoying process. Desired behavior would be like Synchronize, where it continues on when there is an error, and gives a report at the end of the files that it could not convert to the current process.    Windows 11, 24cores, 128GB mem,  Catalog on SSD LRC 11.3.1

I've recently moved from a 2018 i7 Mac Mini to and Mac Studio Ultra - suffice to say I've had a bit of a smile seeing how much faster some of the optimisation has made things.   One area that doesn't appear to be optimised is exporting catalogs (specifically, exporting folders as catalogs with smart previews).   This is an area where the Mac Mini was bouncing off the limiter - sounding like it was ready to take off, and you could cook an egg on it, CPU and RAM utilisation was that high.   With the Mac Studio, the export is still painfully slow, and on the last check, CPU utilisation was 8%, and RAM utilisation was circa 20% of what was available (suggesting there is lots of available resource LR isn't optimised to use).   For those of us who use this in their workflow, I'd guarantee it'd be the biggest needle shifter in workflow time compared to any other optimisation.

Problem Description: I would like to update existing metadata presets, after I have made changes, like I can with watermarks, etc Steps to Reproduce:1. Open Library, menu Metadata, Edit Metadata presets2. Chose a preset, and make changes3. Open the Preset dropdown menu in the top of the screen, and try to save the changes4. Actual Result:The only choise is to save settings as a new preset (or restore defaults) Expected Result:I would like to have a menu item; Update preset "preset name" Any Workarounds:Save as a new preset

As of now every time a new component is added,  intersected or subtracted  to an existing Mask it is placed above all existing components within that Mask.   Components order is relevant so putting new components above all existing is not the best choice.    I ask to have another main behaviour available to us:   "Always create new Component above currently selected"   Users should, in the settings or preferences, decide what behaviour to have when adding intersecting, subtracting a new component to the existing Mask.   As of now when we duplicate offset a component (via right click) it already works like this!   .  

Hi, I shoot photos mainly with my full frame camera and also make snapshots with my phone. I have a disk for editing the photos (SSD F:) and an archive disk (NAS P:). On both drives I have a directory tree like \202x\2021\2021-01-01 (decennium\year\day). Several times a week I copy the photos of my CF-Express card to my F-drive, edit the photos and move them to my P-drive.   So far so good. About 3 times a year I copy the photos from my phone to the F-drive, edit the photos and want to move all the folders to my archive disk P:.   Here's the problem. Many folders already exist on the P-drive because of the full frame photos. For every existing folder I get a message saying: A folder named <foldername> already exists at this location and it won't copy the photos from the source although these photos don't exsist on the P-drive. Therefore, I have to copy the photos manually to the correct folder on the P-drive. That mostly is a hell of a job.   Idea. When moving

Whenever I edit a file name in Lightroom Classic Library view, I want to be able to double-click and drag to select one or more words to edit in the file name, without changing the file extension. This is how the Mac Finder works. In Lightroom, I have to tediously drag the cursor (in a tiny font) back and forth to select exactly the end of the last word without selecting ".tif" or ".dng" or whatever. A period should be a word break character in the text box.  

In the Map module, you can change the location of a map pin assigned one photo by dragging it to a new position.  But if the pin is assigned more than one photo, you can't drag it -- the map pans instead.  Surely not an intended behavior.   To reproduce:   1. Drag one photo to the map.     2. Click and drag its map pin and observe the pin changes location.   3. Drag two photos to the map.   4. Click the pin and try to drag it -- that pans the map rather than change the location of the pin.   Tested on LR 11.3.1 on Mac OS 12.31. and Windows 10.  

Bildverzeichnis in der Buchgestaltung. Picture directory in book design. The pictures should speak for themselves. But at the end of the book it should also be an automatically generated image index. That would be professional. With kind regards Lars Thomsen-Bad Segeberg-          

Now that I'm shooting 8K video and can get large still frames, I love the capture frame feature of Lightroom Classic. However, I find it difficult to scrub through the video (especially anything longer than a few seconds) because the slider to move through the video to find the frame is so short. Microscopic mouse movements jump the video a fair amount even on videos of 10 - 20 seconds. I'd love it if the slider was able to be quite a lot longer. Thanks!

I frequently use lightroom to edit architecture. One of the problems I have is when using the Guided Transform with two or more walls/ceiling that are the same colour, It is very hard/impossible to find the corner lines of the walls. If I temporarly swith to the spot remover and use the visualizw check box, I can see the corners of the room. This feature is not currently enabled under transform. 

Sample problem: You've used a daylight-balanced flash in an indoor tungsten environment. If you white balance for your foreground subject, the background color will be off, and vice-versa. Currently you can 1) select the subjet, 2) invert so that the background is selected, and then 3) "eyeball" proper white balance. But this is inexact.    Requested feature: Within the Masking module, have a "White Balance Background" selection option that automatically selects the background (steps 1 and 2 above) and presents an eydropper tool for white balance. Much faster!

There should be an option that allows me to exclude all keywords from a photos IPTC data when opening in an external editor. This would solve the problem of keywords that are stored hierachically in Classic from being reimported on save as a flat keyword structure. As it is now, if you want to maintain a clean keyword hierarchy, you must manually clean up the keyword list of imported synonyms, parents, etc., from the top-level of the hierarchy.

It seems on a Mac you can drag a RAW image from LR Grid View onto an other app. On my Win 10 system I can't do this, has anyone got it to work? 

In masking we should have a Negative/Positive Effect setting.   This Negative/Positive settings should be a checkbox and simply when enabled the area/pixels of the photo affected by the Mask would be turned into Negative or Positive (in case one is working on a film scan)   This simple setting would be very useful for those that work with film scans and as well for all creative uses.   I am perfectly aware that we can already turn a photo into Negative/Positive using a Point Curve but thanks to the Positive settings in Masking we would be able to do it also locally so only on a specific part of the image. The advantage of using a mask to turn complete/partially the image into a Negative/Positive is also that Point Curve would be kept linear not inverted and for most users it's easier to work like that.   .

In retouching there are many times when the highlights (or shadows) are contaminated by colours that should not be there. An example would be interior shots where different light sources were used (say daylight and tungsten), or where a wide angle lens has caused magenta/green shading on a white wall. It would be incredibly helpful to be able to select highlights/midtones/shadows and selectively adjust saturation. If, say, the split-toning slider could slide to the left to decrease saturation that would do the job!

The settings that are not currently selectable/available in the Copy/Sync Settings Menu should be added.   We should have the complete list, the checkboxes for all the existing settings and/or an efficient and simple way to copy/sync any settings.   • In detail.   With the exception of Basic Panel at today it is still not possible to select and/or copy/sync single specific setting from the other existing panels.    For instance the only way to copy one or more specific settings (e.g Red Saturation, Blue Hue, Black Parametric, Highlights Hue, Blending, Global Luminance, etc...) to other photos is to select multiple and then use Auto Sync in Develop module...but unfortunately that requires multiple steps and needlessly add steps to History as well.   I suggest to have the complete list of settings.  The following simple option in Develop module would help tremendously as well:  "Right Click on setting : copy/sync!"   This o

Currently the Eyeball Icon can be used to hide a setting (only available in Color Grading for now) or a Mask/Component. Unlike "On/off Switches" with the Eyeball Icon we can hide temporarily the setting/mask/component as we click and hold it...this is to me a truly "game changing" ability.   I suggest to have: Click and Hold any Settings while using a modifier to hide settings without adding to history.   e.g. Ctr/Cmd + Click and Hold on the name of the setting  = setting is hidden, no step in history is added.   It would be wise also to replace the current "On/Off" switch in Panels with the Eyeball Icon: this way we would also have the "click & hold to hide" behavior for panels as well.

I have been redeveloping some old images, and thus the Metadata Date is updated. I would like to be able to search for all those images for which the metadata date is today but I'm seeing that it is not possible. In fact, being able to choose a range of time over which such a change occurred could helpful. I'd hope that adding such a feature to the metadata find choices would be fairly straightforward. Thanks. Thanks, especially, for such a wonderful program!   Perhaps generalizing things to allow the user to user to choose the metadata that they wish to search on would be the way to go.

Hello, I m playing around with some presets and it is tiresome to scroll through all of them to get to the one I want. They also remain open once you click on the triangle so the lists grows to huge sizes.   The simple solution that I would like to see is to be able to ALT click the triangle next to each preset category, and that would collapse/expand all of them, the same way you do with the Folders panel in the Library module. I am trying to use a mask created in photoshop. This is an obvious task that should be easy. No surprise that Lightroom does not support it in any obvious way.    Several problems:  * Lightroom has neglected to allow masks from files * Copying and pasting a Luminance mask results in the mask being recomputed on the new image (making copy/paste perfectly useless, since this is what creating a new mask does).  * Copying and pasting an automask results in the automask being recomputed.   In both cases, the mask is created perfectly on the BW photoshop file. * In the case of the luminance mask, paste behavior is simply definitionally wrong (you are not pasting anything: BUG). * In the case of the automask, there should be an option to apply without recomputing (sometimes I can see recomputing being desired, but when this is not desired it interferes with proper behavior: BUG).    So how do I go about doing this obvious and basic task?   Until a solut

1) Allow starting with non-empty folder (give user the option to ignore / import current files) 2) Watch subfolders (give user the option) 3) Do not force user to move the imported files to different directory.

Sometimes I found that Lightroom Classic make bad name sugestions for facial recognition. The feature request/app improvement could be an option to see the sources photos or faces that provokes that recognition. I can undestand that maybe is not easy becase how facial metadata is saved maybe, but sometimes this happends when in the million faces of a person, 3 pictures are bad placed on wrong face. This function could help us find quicly which faces are wrong placed. Else i have to check millions of faces trying to find them. I hope this function could be added and be useful for others.

When I complete processing on a photo I want to print, I export the image to a special folder containing all my ready to print images. Since I work primarily in Collections, I would like to be able to add that image to a special collection as well. Perhaps this could be done be allowing Add to Collection as an option in the post processing section of the Export dialog. 

Hi, I use Lr as my go-to platform to manage my printing workflow and I would love to see ColorSpace added to the Metadata vewer. The data is readily available in the file and would help especially when images have been saved with a specific printer ICC profile as the ColorSpace. Would be a simple addition that I bet would help anyone using LR for printing!   Thank you!   Juan Carlos
