Currently, I have my FrameMaker documents in separate folders (different paths) on a dev (offline) internal server. I am creating links from one FrameMaker document to the other in my book creation. After the books are complete, I have to create a PDFs for each book and upload these books into the SAME folder and maintain the PDF links from one book to the other. So how would this be done?
Going back to a manual I haven't touched for a few years, and suddenly I see a problem. I suspect it may have arrived when I globally updated styles in line with new corporate guidelines, but that doesn't immediately help me correct it.Consider the screenshot:All four occurrences of the product name YOMANI touch use the same variable, defined as <Default ¶ Font>YOMANI <!italic>touch<Default ¶ Font> – but the string touch is not rendered as italic in the top-level heading. I'm wondering whether I need to adjust the definition of the character style !italic, but don't know what I might need to change.I'm out of office tomorrow and Friday, so don't think I'm ignoring any swift replies ;-}
Hi All,I'm having a weird issue with my Welcome screen where it seems it's always shifted to the right (image below). If I open a document or a book and click on the Welcome screen, that mystery panel fills in with whatever is "behind" it. I have tried a few things to try and fix it, including removing FM and then reinstalling, but it always seems to find a way back. Is there button I've mashed or preference I've enabled? Has anyone seen this and can make it go away? Framemaker is still completely useable but knowing that mystery panel is there is distracting me, and I'm easily distracted. 😞Thank you very much,Megan
After running out of time trying to get our help out with FM2020, we decided to downgrade back to 2019 which had no issues. While trying to install, the installer window would ask for a sign in account, then after clicking next, would go blank. No network activity or anything. After a bit of googling, I found the solution that worked. It does say for captivate, but it appears the installer is generic.https://helpx.adobe.com/in/captivate/kb/captivate-installation-blank-page-sign.html
Since I have never produced an HTML file from Frame, I was wondering why Heading numbering, ordered list numbering, and bullets are not created in the HTML file. Am I missing something or is that just what the HTML file conversion does?
Is there an easy way to automatically embed elements in structured FrameMaker? We are talking about lots of tables and lots of table cells. This is what it looks like:And this is what it should look like:Is there an easy way to embed the BodyText-Tag in thousands of entry-Tags? Search & Replace? Many thanks in advance.Lothar
I was wondering if it is possible to use an attribute in elements such as the fig element in order to force them to appear with their previous element in the text. Currently, I am doing this by using the KeepWithPrevious element in the EDD; see here. Consequently, all the figures tend to stick to their previous element. This can be sometimes undesirable. However, in my opinion it would be more appropriate to use an attribute in the fig element for doing this. This way it would be possible to select which figure is to appear with the previous element. I appreciate any help to achieve this.
I have a two-column book Index file, and I have forgotten how to span the Alpha (A, B, C, D, etc.) characters and title across both columns. Can someone assist me with that? Matt Sullivan showed me how to do it, but I cannot find it. Thanks!
In my book Index, the Level 2 links are active and going to their root topics instead of the actual linked (marker) topic. In other words, I have a main topic at Level 1 and at Level 2, I have "See [TopicName]. The [TopicName] link goes to the Level 1 topic, instead of the actual topic it should go to. See attachment. I wasn't even aware that the Level 2 topics were linked until I converted the document to an HTML file.
Currently, I have two FrameMaker books in separate folders (paths). In my book file, it displays the path to each. I would like to know how I can create a default path on the server, so that both files will always link, regardless of the folder names and path used for both. In HTML it is commonly done with ...\ but how is this done with FrameMaker files? Currently, the books are both in a production sever environment, so the paths in FrameMaker are literal paths to where they reside. I want to be able to move them, place them on another server and still have the links working. Do I have to re-establish all unresolved cross-reference links after I move them? Thanks!
I've been away from FrameMaker for several years and as I set up a new book template, I'm trying to remember how (or if it's even possible ) to configure the default paragraph font to my standard font.Life would be so much easier of I didn't have to re-select the font and font size for every style I create.
A certification lab has requested that we add a QR code to a .pdf, alongside the familiar hyperlink. I have to admit I don't know where to start!Well, perhaps not quite that bad: I know how to place a graphic, but are there any tips or recommendations I need to be aware of when generating the QR code? Recommendations on a reliable place/way to do this would also help.
Hi, In my master page for the procedural data module (Adobe FrameMaker S1000D), I add "Running H/F 3" whose definition is: "<$elemtext[dmCode]>". However, in the data module the first time it appears it shows the dmCode of the data module (I want it), but in other pages shows the dmCode of the business rules data module it is referenced to (it is a wrong value). I wanted to know how this is possible and how to show the data module code every time I use "Running H/F 3". Thank you for your help in advanced
I have a bullet indent (First) set at .8 and the text alignment (Left) set at 1.05. When the text wraps from the first line of the bullet, the second line wraps a fraction more left than the first line of text. Color me dumb, but settings work everywhere else, so what could be this issue. Note that the first row indent does have the text overlapping the > symbol, and it's the only tag (Bullet 1) in my book where this overlap of the > character occurs.
When I created the PDF of the book, none of the section levels were created. All section titles were left aligned in the same place. I used to remember where the settings were, I believe, but not in Frame 2020.
Hello everyone, as the title says, I'm looking for a way to convert 500+ embedded images in a document (Word import) to referenced graphics instead. I haven't found any viable solution searching the web so far, apart from "create a PDF, then extract images with Acrobat Pro" and similar suggestions. A complete file dump would only solve half of the issue at best, because the task of manually re-importing the graphics would still remain. Is there anything I can do to automate this process? Thanks in advance... 🙏 -Alex
I have a table format where 4 rows do repeat for each entry in the table. I want this table to continue flowing between pages with the "Orphan Row" feature but I also want it to keep the group of the rows as a single entity (or row). Is there a way to achieve this in Framemaker?
I have a book to which I added a second appendix. So the book now has Appendix A and Appendix B (new). Apppendix A has no figure captions, and Appendix B has several. When I first added it, the figure numbering took effect to continue from Chapter 13, the last book chapter which ended with Figure 75. Appendix B started with Figure 76, However, it has somehow revereted to Figure 1 and I am not sure how it happened. I have the Numbering/Paragraph set to "Contine Numbering from Previous Paragraph in Book," and the Format building block for the figure caption is the same between Chapter 13 and Appendix B. I had the book in a different location and moved it to the desktop so FrameMaker would work well. It was ok at one point and then now I cannot get it back to the continued number. I also regenerated the TOC and LOF after making the changes. Since the change did not take in the chapter I did not expect it to appear in the LOF on update and that is what happened.
Hi everyone,We are using the Adobe Framemaker R4i Workspace plug-in for S1000D, but we cannot use 4.1 functions of the S1000D.Do we have the possibility to access S1000D 4.1 functions (PDF Output, PM, Applicability, CIR) using Framemaker, without using Binder?Thank you for your assistance...
Hi all. I have a portion of text on one page in a book that will change. I need to leave the existing text in place while indicating to the reviewers that the section needs to be updated. What is the best way to do that, i.e., perhaps with a transparent "Needs Updating" watermark that I place over the text section? Cheers -- John
Hello,We have a defect tracking system.I can copy the columns and rows of text and paste it get the information into a text editor such as notepad (in an orderly fashion) etc.I’d like to copy and paste this information into the rows and columns of a table in a FrameMaker doc, but see no obvious option to achieve this. I don’t want to import a file like a Word document because I want to apply the FrameMaker paragraph and character settings. Is there a way to do this?Or am I doomed to enter each row of information manually into FrameMaker?I’m working with FrameMaker 2019. Kind regards,Fred Gerke
how can i uppercase first letter in a variable that uses current month?where is this info dragged from?

Hi...New to this forum. In a previous life I used Framemaker a great deal for my job with Cisco. As a result, I have dozens and dozens of Framemaker files that I can still open, edit, and resave. I have Framemaker 7 on my Windows 7 laptop but I cannot create (Save as) PDF from my Framemaker (.fm) files; am told a print file is not available. Does anyone have suggestions to help me solve this problem? Am open to subscribing to some version of Adobe Acrobat to get this done, but am not sure if the current AA version will open my older Framemaker (.fm) files.Thank you in advance... Michael
I'm using tables to contain graphics and their captions. For documents with multiple outputs where the graphics differ between versions, I use multiple rows and condition the row the graphic is in for the output. Unlike rows with text in them, rows that contain a single cell with a graphic aren't showing the barred outline indicating that the row has a condition applied. I don't recall if this is the expected behavior. Windows 10 Pro FrameMaker 16.0.1.817
