FrameMaker

Hi all. I need to import or paste several examples of XML code into a FM book, but I need it to maintain it's format when brought into FM. Is there a way to make that happen? I've attached an example from a previous edition of this chapter. Cheers and thx -- John

Hi all, I have a FM publishing server 2015 running on MS2012 R2.A strange behaviour started occuring a few weeks ago: Framemaker does not open ditamaps anymore.It freezes or crashes. After starting FM anew, it is proposed to restore the previous session, but fails and freezes again.This behaviour does not occur when opening xml files.I found out that deleting the maker.ini of the user solves the problem. But only for 2 or 3 days...The first value of RMViewLeftDocked seems to cause the issue, it changes over time.A fresh maker.ini has RMViewLeftDocked=360, 1071, and FM crashes when the value reaches RMViewLeftDocked=30, 1071.The server runs every night printing over 400 documents. We work with structured FM.How do I stop the value from changing? How do I prevent FM to crash when the value is 30? Regards,Fabian

I'll preface this by saying I don't us FrameMaker but I am trying to develop a workflow for my team who will be using FrameMaker. I can not figure out how the Sharepoint Online Repository Manager works.  My workflow is as such (also shown in video:Link to video explaning steps below.  Yes I know personal details are visible.1.  Connect to Sharepoint Online2.  Checkout .book file3.  Make changes to a fm file in the book4.  Save the .fm file5.  Checkin the .book file When I goto open the file - the text I added is not there.  What am I doing wrong?  I can't seem to find any documentation about this feature anywhere online.Thanks!

I am new to Framemaker, but I have read the framemaker help.pdf, searched the web and these forums, and I can't see what I am doing wrong.I am trying to create a book using structured authoring. Hello; Frame 2019, Windows 10 EnterpriseWhen I print or save to PDF, all of the images have consisitent borders. Most often the borders are on the left, top and right but missing from the bottom. It does not seem to mater what the settings are in Object properties, (color or size) or the Graphics pen tool.  Even if the source file, typically jpg has a 1 point border. We use templates from another department, but I tried using a default Frame template as well as DITA topics and still I get the same results when I save as or print oto PDF. It must be some PDF output settings?Thanks 

I am generating the PDF by setting up a PS file. The settings are all in place but the output PDF doesn't have the hyperlinks to topics in TOC in the PDF file.

Client does not want the word "Connection" to wrap to the left margin as seen above. he wants any word wraps to be indented. Did it manually to show what I need: Paragraph Designer:This is TOC file's Reference page:  

When I import images and apply a 1pt or 2pt border from Object Properties, there is no border on the image.  Am I missing something?

If I want to add a full color photo or graphic as a FrameMaker cover page, how would I do that without any top or side borders?  I would assume there is also no anchor involved.  Would it be done from the masterpages? Thanks!

Hi all!I am a newbie to this support community so I hope that I am posting in the right place.My problem is that I have two very similar guides that I used conditional tags to hide some of the information that is not relevant to one of the guides. When I create a pdf of that guide there are large spaces between paragraphs. The "first" guide I created has all the text in is perfect. It is the second guide that only has some of the text where there seems to be a formatting problem.  Any suggestions?Thanks,Lyn 

The Word Count utility counts all words in the document. Is there a way to count the number of characters or words in a piece of selected text?

Hi all,I want to make some small changes in S1000D tables (for instance Require Condition in the procedural module) in Adobe Frame Maker 2019, S1000D. I changed ".edd", ".tpl", ".rwr".  But when I want to save a procedural module, I got various errors. I want to know which files do the validation when saving any data module? As a simple action, I tried to change the size of the column of the "fm.reqCondGroup" table in .rwr. file but I couldn't see the changes' effect. Do I miss anything here? element "fm.reqCondGroup" {is fm table element;fm property columns value is "1";fm property column widths value is "170mm";  I changed this valuefm property table format value is "S1000Dwide";} What is strange for me is that in FM when you want to create a "fm.reqCondGroup" the default value of columns is 3, however it is defined as "1" in .rwr file. A client has a mandatory font, Roboto, that I must use to produce their manual suite. I have downloaded and installed these fonts in C:\Windows\Fonts, and I have made sure to activate this font in my Adobe Fonts account. (From the Adobe site: Roboto is available via an open source license. You're free to use it with your Adobe Fonts account just as you would any other font in the Adobe Fonts library.). I am using FM2019 to produce the documents. As this is not a font that some users might have on their systems, I want to embed the fonts in any PDF that I produce for this suite, but when I go to set a job options file w/ these specific fonts embedded, the fonts are NOT listed in the available fonts list. I cannot find anything about Roboto having/not having the correct marks for being embedded, so for now, I have resorted to Pre-Flighting the PDF after production: (If you have Adobe Acrobat XI Professional (not Standard) you can embed fonts available on your system using Preflight

Has anyone else noticed that when they use the Ctrl-Z to undo the last change, it instead undoes EVERY change made in its history? It doesn't happen every time, but it happens often enough that it is really messing with my workflow.   Windows 10 Pro FM 2020, up to date

I have a ditamap that is used for five different product guides. Right now we use the prodinfo element of the map to generate the product-specific title for the PDF output.I've tried adding the different product names as separate prodinfo elements in the map, but filtering doesn't produce the result I'm looking for. I've tried setting the attributes of each prodinfo element and using the product ditaval to choose the correct product name in the title of the guide. Our cover page uses the prodinfo element to populate the title page. I want to extend it so that we're not having to enter the product information each time we use the ditamap. I was hoping to insert a series of prodinfo elements in the topicmeta for the map. The output, to PDF, simply showed the default variable entry for the prodinfo element (Product). The variable is BM_ProdName which is tied to the prodinfo element.I don't know if I've actually described this well.Thoughts?Wanda

This code (below) is supposed to search text for a specific string (defined by regex), and if found, make the string bold. It finds and returns the text it's looking for, but when it applies the character format, it changes the entire paragraph, not just the string. So, I think it's the text range/text selection that I'm having trouble with. I've spent too much time trying to figure this out on my own, but I just can't get it. Is there a way to permanently disable/remove the "WelcomeScreen" that keeps opening in FrameMaker 2019 (update 8)? I just noticed it sometimes is constantly using the CPU - even with not documents open and program minimised? Not much, but still... Just annoying...It doesn't work anyway as it always renders completely messed up (please don't rely on low/default security settings in a user's browser to render the UI).If a tab and I close it, it will automatically reopens whenever i open a document (why? that makes no sense?) Please let me just disable it somehow until hopefully it is fixed in some future update. Right now it is just in the way. It would be best if this can be done without requiring admin privileges.

Hi Folks,Would a monthly subscription be allowed to work on a virtual machine? I saw some mentions from users running a stand alone license on a virtual machine but I don't know how well that would carry over to a monthly subscription.The reason I am interested is that it would be nice to take a seat home without having to take my pc home.Thanks,Myko

Using FrameMaker 16 (Windows 10): I have a large number of files in a FrameMaker book that have a numbered style with color set to white (so it's not visible on the page). I would like the numbered heading to appear in my TOC. The text appears but the numbering does not with the color set to white. When I change to color to black, the heading numbering appears in the TOC with the accompanying heading text just like I want it, but then it appears on the source page where we want it hidden. Solutions for this issue are greatly appreciated! 

Hi all. This is driving me nuts and the document is due on Monday. Heres the problem: In the original document (2014 vesrion), the numbering for SCRs in the table is fine, i.e., the numbering starts where it should at 1.1. However, in the 2021 version of the same document, the numbering for the SCRs in the table is off, i.e., the numbering starts at 7.1.I've checked the Numbering in the Paragraph Deisgner and both are the same. Can I check the history of working on a file in Framemaker. To see who worked on a file and when?Maybe there is some way, like in the inDesigne program. Irek
