The 17.0.5 maker.ini contains the preference: EnableStructuredCrossRef=OffI have tried removing this preference, leaving it as is, and changing Off to On. I did not notice a difference in my ability to created structured cross-references. Furthermore, the Go to Source button in the Cross-Reference dialog behaved the same way. Does this preference affect FM's behavior? --Lynne
In a book I'm making I have 4 nearly identical images (charts) that are on landscape-oriented pages. The rest of the document is portrait. All 4 charts are 1419 px X 1052 px. In the DITA, each chart is in its own topic. The <fig> element has an output class that tells FrameMaker the landscape master page should be applied to it. This output class is referenced in reference page. Here is the DITA content of each topic: Here is the converted content. Every time, the first three images are the same size (7" x 5.25")) The last one is smaller.(6.5" by 4.8 ") I cannot finde the reason. Here are the last 2 images: the first, is

Hi! I recently upgraded to FrameMaker 2022. When I try to publish a larger book into a pdf through Save As Pdf, the generated pdf is missing some of the images, while some of the images do appear normally. However, when I publish a pdf of any of the single fm components, the very same images appear just fine. When publishing any smaller books, all images appear just fine. The problematic book is around 147 pages long and has several images per most pages. The files were created with an older version of FrameMaker. The images DO appear if I use Print Book and Adobe PDF printer though. Is there some setting or something I could do to make all the images appear the other way as well?Hope I could explain it clearly and thank you so much for help in advance!

I have a Parts Manual that has a "Table of Contents" heading on all pages for the online pdf manual which is stored online for dealer access. I would like this heading to disappear once a person prints the document. Is there a way to designate this header as a "non-print" by still visible, so I only have to create ONE manual. Many people find it confusing on the printed version, since it appears on all the pages, but has no function on the actual printed manual that gets mailed out.
I do not know why this error in the tree structure. Can anyone help me out!!
Hi, I inserted some images at the insertion point (Anchoring Position: At Insertion Point). This works fine when I create the .dita file, but after saving and then re-opening the .dita file, the Anchoring position is set to Below Current Line. Why does the Anchor Frame formatting changes upon saving the file? How do I prevent this from happening? Thank you for your help.Cheers,R
I have structured in a DITA bookmap that I need to convert to FrameMaker. The conversion has worked so far now when I make a change to my template located in my template Bookmap file (template.fm file in my handbook.book map) I don't see those template changes in the output. I have a table style called FormatAppendix in which I'm trying to change the Left table margin from 0.0 to 1.5". My process:1. select my table in the FM file. 2. make the change in the Table Designer.3. select all contents of the FM file and paste into my AppendixTpl.fm file4. save the file.5. Import the file into the other files in my template.book map. 6. save the .book map.7. then re-run the DITA-to-FM conversion. Then, when you look the the converted FM files, the 1.5" Table Margin change has not been applied. When you select the table, the table designer shows 0.0" in the Left Margin box. HOWEVER the template file still has the updated 1.5" left margin. Any ideas on what is happening h
I have a situation where I create an illustration in Solidworks Composer (verison 2023) and save it as a jpeg. I then open this file up in Adobe Illustrator (2024) and add callouts. The callouts look good in AI (see below). I then save the file as an AI file and as a SVG file. When I insert the svg file into my FrameMaker document (2020) some of the callouts are not pointing to the correct items. Somehow they get moved around (see below) I recently updated my Adobe Creative Suite about 2 weeks ago and that is when this all started to happen. If the callout is indicating a large item (like Right Door or Monitor), it isn't much of an issue because the line still hits the item I am calling out. But, when the callout is for smaller items (like Handle and Scanner above), the lines move too much to where they are not even touching the item in question.I don't know if this is a AI, FM issue or SW Composer issue. When I do callouts directly in SW Composer, save it, then open in AI to
Currently all my indexes display the full page numbers when there are more than 1 page associated with the indexed word/phrase. For example, Apples, 45, 60-63Berries, 102-105, 145-147Cherries, 288-289, 299-312 Is there a way to get Framemaker to abbreviate the page ranges so that the indexes look more like this?: Apples, 45, 60-3Berries, 102-5, 145-7Cherries, 288-9, 299-312 Currently the paragraph style used for all of these lines is Level1AIX which is defined in the Reference pages thusly: Level1AIXopenXmlElementId <$relfilename>:<$UniqueXmlElementId> <$RelativeXmlElementId>openObjectId <$relfilename>:<$ObjectType> <$ObjectId><$pagenum>
Hi - I have a specific question but I have to imagine others have had it happened. Currently working on FM2020. All software is managed by IT, so I cannot download any extensions/extras/or change my FM SW, just as a note. The issue: I work on big user guides (400+ pages) and include many images of our app and physical product in workflows. When software is updated, screens get updated. When designers make a change, design elements on the GUIs change. When I put updated GUIs/artworks/button graphics/whatever in my links folder where I store them, and then update the image in the book file, save, close, then reopen the next time I have work to do, Framemaker asks me to update the path for the image/element that is NO LONGER in the document. I delete these images/elements from the links folder. We have so many, and also translate into multiple language from our English source, it is not practical to hold onto not in use images. Has anyone encountered this? This might s
I have an issue with my structured document. Whenever I try to move an image to its correct position, after saving, the position changes. Let me illustrate. The house icon is now in the place where I want it to stay. However, after I save the document, this happens (next image).Position of the image moves? I've tried anchored frame settings (Anchoring position > at insertion point) and seemingly everything I know. Our company manual has a lot of these inside paragraph icons, so help would be much appreciated.
How do I fix the resolution so that this displays correctly. Seems to display correctly than immediately changes to look like this.We have played with the resolutions setting via the properties under the .exe but nothing workedthanks in advance.
I am creating files that are work packages, each page of the workpackage have page numbers that include the work package number prefix followed by the page number (i.e. 0002-1).I am using a user variable for the workpackage number in each framemaker file. I want to create a TOC that includes the work package number with the page number but I cannot get the work package number to generate with the page number into the TOC. What I want in the TOC is This: What I get is this:Any help would be great,Thanks Jim
Hello, all,I'm editing a book with multiple chapters. In order to use the chapter files as templates for similarly named chapters in other books in the series, I'm putting each chapter title (using the Heading 1 paragraph style) in a text frame on the first master page. To get the chapter number and title to appear in the footer on each even-numbered body page, I created the variable "Running H/F 1", and defined it as follows: Chapter <$paranumonly[Heading 1]>: <$paratext[Heading 1]> This definition works perfectly in Chapter 1, but in chapter 2 what appears at the bottom of each even-numbered body page is "Chapter : " obviously the variable isn't seeing the chapter number and title. I've tried a number of things, including importing all formats from Chapter 1 into the Chapter 2 file, but the problem persists. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? All suggestions gratefully appreciated.
For an auto number series such as:C:<$chapnum><n+>< =0>< =0>< =0> I have Paragraph Designs: title.0, Numbering definition, C:Chapter <$chapnum>< >< =0>< =0 >.title.1, Numbering definition, C:<$chapnum>-<n+>< >< >. title.2, Numbering definition, C:< >< >Section <n+>< >. title.3, Numbering definition, C:< >< >< >Subsection <n+>. title,4, Numbering definition, C:<$chapnum>-<n+>< >< >. Shouldn't a new title.2 restart the numbering for the next title.3?My Subsection continues to increment with the previous Section's last Subsection number. What am I missing?
Hi!I have a 2-column table of instructions. Left column has empty paragraphs with autonumbered text in each row: step1, step2, step3, etc. Right column is an instruction of each row/step. This works correctly in all tables, except in one table. This problematic table has left column steps like ..., step3, step4, step5, step6, step4, step5, ... so at step7 autonumbering decides to jump back 2 numbers?! All table rows on left coumns have similar empty autonumbered paragraphs, no difference at all. If I add rows before or after the step7 (which shows as step4), the step numbers are always correct. So, there is something odd in this the row step6 that causes numbering to jump 2 numbers backwards in the next row. Only somewhat unique thing is that row step6 (wrong number appears after is) has inset text in right column. I converted inset to text, did not help. I also mif washed the entire file, did not help either. Any ideas what is going on the step6 row?
I need to convert InDesign files to FrameMaker files, because we have to get all our technical content in one application and Frame is the winner. We do not use structured Frame, and we have very little experience with xml. What would be the best way to proceed with conversion?
Hi,It is my understanding that when you generate HTML5 from Framemaker, it retrieves the selected layout from its predefined HTML5 layouts collection, which is stored in the installation directory. I am using the Azure Blue layout and would like to make some changes to it before the Help is generated. I can find the layout files in the Output folder that are saved each time I generate the Help. I can edit them and save them and then manually copy them into the output to change fonts/colors, etc., but was hoping to find the layout files that Framemaker retrieves during the generation process, so I can modiffy them and skip that manual copy process each time I generate the Help. Does anyone know where the layout files are stored? I've searched all the Adobe and Framemaker fodlers on my system with no luck. I thought they were inC:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe FrameMaker <version>\Structure\XMLApplication\DITA\outputTemplates\responsiveHTML5\AzureBlue,
I just bought a new windows computer and I am trying to load FrameMaker 2019 onto it. I have the subscription, so it's a legal copy. I downloaded the main zip file and it would not install, giving me the following message: Update requiredYour browser or operating system is no longer supported. You may need to install the latest updates to your operating system. Learn more I downloaded the latest update, tried to install it and got the same message.I've tried installing as administrator, and got the same message. There is nothing to upgrade. Does anyone have any ideas?
I've just picked up FM again between projects, and after a small progress I noticed the logo I've put on the book cover and header/footer sometimes printed as gray boxes in the final PDF. At worst, every images (.PNG) would become gray boxes. Sometimes, it happens only on some of the chapters. The workflow was:1. create a blank DITA bookmap, then adding a couple of conrefs from the book tree menu.2. save as book with FM component, in order to modify the TOC.3. at this point, the images (cover logo, header/footer) would be shown correctly on every page.4. Publish the FM book to PDF, then the error occured. I have modified the DITA/outputTemplates for the intended layout. During the early attempts of these templates creation, I've encountered an error where FM was asking for the image file location (file missing error). I never saw any of those errors after. The image file was always in the same location, though. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards,A
I would like to know how to insert an image on the reference page in Adobe FrameMaker. Could you outline the steps involved and explain the benefits of using this feature.
Hi to all of you. I am evaluating FM as a potential tool generate documentation in my company. I am totally newbie with the tool and after doing some search could not find a clear answer. One of the main challenges is that i need to handle big requirement excel tables, a very interesting feature of FM is the possibility to insert the excel file in it. Changes that you apply to the excel file can be updated automatically in FM by updating the references. Saving time during documentation ellaboration phase. Main problem is that when you use this insertion strategy FM includes empty rows behind the content and I haave not been capable to remove them.... Is there just a way to delete them or a way to adjust the import phase, when I point with the mouse over the table the whole element is selected . Thank you in advance.
Whenever I insert an image, the figure number in the caption includes the chapter number and a sequential number, but they are separated by an en dash instead of a hyphen. How do I change this so it has a hyphen instead of an en dash?
