GM, Can I view what output will be while working in my Concept DITA file?I want to be able to see what the formatting will look like, as I go.Or, do I have to do a style sheet for the Reference Pages first.I want to output to PDF as final goal, but would be nice to 'preview' along the way.Thank you,Vicki

I have a DITA Concept xml file.  I want to be able to change the font for a tag. In this case, my title element is Calibri 24 pt.  This must be the default. When I change it to Arial 14 pt and 'save' it, it doesn't save. I open it again, and it is the Calibri font.How can I get the styling or formatting that I want in DITA?Thank you,Vicki 

Hi, I would like to know whether there is an option to display the Marker Text for cross-referencing? Currently, I don't see marker text available in Building Blocks to create a custom format. I need to add cross-references to more than 200 instances in a FrameMaker book, but the tool is not allowing more than 100 custom formats to be added to the format list.NOTE: This topic was raised coouple of years back, but without any solution. Not sure whether features have been updated in the current version. I am using latest verison [FM 2022 V_17 (u4)].Any help or insights on this topic is appreciated. 

Hi, FrameMaker version 16 is not starting. the widnow shows up and after a few seconds it just goes away. I tried downloading the 2022 version as well, but that didn't start either. Recently I started working on Adobe Framemaker version 17.04.628 where in after opening the FM file made in earlier version 10.0.0-.388, I am not seeing any master page on body page in background. Here number of pages are seen as “-1” instead in actual it should show a total 13 pages in the file. When I print the file it shows verything good as if master page was there but in actual visualisation I can't see one.

Hi,   I want to work (as a remote self-employed contractor) with a company that has FM2019. I tested FM2022 and it can't save books in an FM2019 compatible format. (Sure, I could save each individual file as a mif, but with books that have 30 files in them, this is time consuming, and I'm not even sure if they can open the book, as that just gets saved with no options.)   I couldn't test FM2020, it wasn't an option. But I could buy it. obviously I don't want to buy it if it's not FM2019 compatible.  Does anyone know for sure that FM2020 can save books as FM2019 compatible?   Thanks for your help! Julie

How to change font of Document Index in FrameMaker? 

Structured FM (17.0.4.628)I have an Element with a text format rule that applies autonumbering. Is there a way to 'read' the autonumbering value and apply a suffix rule based on the value? E.g. if the autonumbering value is 1, 8, 15, apply the suffix "Alpha", if the autonumbering value is 2, 9, 26, apply the suffix "Beta", etc. Is this possible without the use of scripts?

I'm trying (with my very limited HTML abilities) to create a custom .css for my Responsive HTML5 output but at the moment, numbered lists are defeating me. If I select Convert to Text for my list style  then I get this in the HTML output. . If I select Convert to List then I get this in the HTML output . Essentially the same, except a bigger gap after the number in the list. My .css looks like this . If I change p.List1 to li.List1 then FM can no longer see the List1 style here . I'm hoping someone can tell me what I need to change in either my .css or the selections on the FM Publish Settings to sort this out. 

Hi everyone! Recently, workig on a large manual I have encountered a problem with the page numbering in Framemaker. I am attaching example screenshots and link to file below. Scenario: I have a book with childbooks inside, childbooks contain .fm files such as TOC and Chapter. I want my TOC to start with page 0, but each other chapter start with page 1 everytime. I have set numbering for the .fm files separately to start with desired pages, and then set numbering properties in a childbook to "read from file". The problem is when I update the parent (main) book, the page numbering resets to 1 for TOC and continues 2, 3, 4... in other chapters. The intended result:   The PROBLEM: I would appreciate any help regarding the matter, thank you in advance. Example file (I cannot share the actual project due to confidentiality): EXAMPLE RAR FILE 

I'm finding that when I publish to Responsive HTML5, FM is inserting a line break (br) after each table. This is causing a large gap below every table that I don't want. There is no return or paragraph between the base of the table and the "text after table" paragraph in the FM file. Is this just something that FM does that you can't prevent? 

Greetings, Am I correct in assuming that the only way to have figures with captions that float and can be programmatically placed, e.g., at top of column, at bottom of column etc. is to use an anchored frame that is taller than the graphic and insert a text box inside the bottom of the frame? Obviously, I cannot use the "one row table with the table title at bottom" method, since tables cannot float at the same time as they are programmatically placed, e.g., at top of column, at bottom of column etc. Those choices are mutually exclusive. Which - if I'm not missing something - is a major disadvantage that I cannot understand is not fixed yet. And I can neither use an anchored frame with a next para tag for the figure title, as that title is kept with the insertion point and not the programmatically repositioned anchored frame e.g. on the next page. Am I missing any other methods? /Mats

I recently upgraded from V16 to V17. When I've converted my V16 *.fm files to the new version, images that were properly centered on the ouput PDF file pages using "File/Save as PDF..." are now often shifted up and partially off the page using the same command in V17. If I use "File/Print" and direct the output to Adobe PDF the images are correctly located. So far, I'd call this an inconvenience and not a game stopper. But, when I publish the entire book, all images exhibit the location shift up and partially off the page. Any suggestions?

Hello I am having an issue getting my total page count correct (using FM 2020, v16). In the Paragraphs: Page Right, the number is way off. It should be 131 pages total, not what is shown. I think I am using the correct cross reference format (<$paratext>). Is there any way I can manually change that number? How do I get it so that 131 shows up as the total page count and not what I currently see. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hello,about the text in black : I have set paragraph designer like this :- space before paragraph : 3 pt- space after paragraph : 4 pt My goal would be to have 4 pt inside the paragraph only, and 3pt around the paragraph. Problem : around the paragraph I have :- at the top : 3pt (no problem)- at the bottom : 4 pt (but I would like here to have 3 pt) How to set my paragraph designer "Cantate" in that case ?

I need to publish structured documents to xml. Some of the Headings are created by prefix rules in the EDD. When I publish the document to xml, the headings are missing in the xml.I am a scripting novice to be honest, I have no clue how to get the text out of the prefix rule, which depends on the context. In the FrameMaker scripting guide I found  the following objects which may or may not handle the prefixes- Element.MatchingPrefixClause; of data type Objects (ID of the prefix clause that apply to the element)- ElementDef.PrefixRules; of data type objects (IDs of the prefix format rules)- FmtRuleClause.ElemPrefixSuffix: of data type string (The text of the string)I am able to select the heading element, but how the hell do I get the content of the prefix from there?Any hints appreciated!

Good afternoon,I created a named frame on the Reference Page.I added the graphic frame and named it. Then added a text frame inside of the graphic frame.Content was put inside the text frame, from Word, using, File>Import>File.Question is: Can I now change the (imported) text inside the text frame?I am having trouble doing that. With Smart Select, I get a 'black frame,and with Select Tool it is just activating the frame handles.I can't seem to get into the text frame to edit it - I want to change the dates.Thank you,  Vicki 

Good afternoon,I am in the process of re-creating a Word document in Framemaker.Below is a snap shot of a feature in Word that I need to repulicate.I don't know what it is called, so I will describe it:it is a paragraph that has an underscore line, next to the text.Text is then typed over the underscore line, like 'abc'.Can you do this in Framemaker?Thank you, Vicki

We are using FM 2022 and use the Print Book,  Print-to-ps-file & distill method, with Adobe PDF printer and Adobe Disitiller, and are receiving the error message:  %%[Page: 396]%%%%[Page: 397]%%%%[Page: 398]%%%%[Page: 399]%%%%[Page: 400]%%%%[Page: 401]%%%%[Page: 402]%%%%[Page: 403]%%%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: load ]%%Stack:/S-mark-%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %% We don't know what would have changed to cause this or how to correct. Can anyone help advise, please? 

Hello.Recently the Publish to PDF routine has been including the paragraph tags in the PDF bookmarks list: This is new behaviour and I'm hanged if I can find where to go to stop it. It's not in the .sts file setup, at least not that I can see.  Anybody have any ideas about this? I really don't want my PDF bookmarks looking like this.  Thanks in advance,Bill 

My team has recently converted to FrameMaker 2022. Our version is up to date, but when I convert a document containing landscape pages to PDF, the header and footer text on the landscape pages becomes jumbled (rotated). Is there a setting I can tweak to correct that?
