FrameMaker

Hello,   I have a tricky problem, that I would need some help to solve. I have a structured document, that is structured like this:     <rootElement> <child><content/> <child><content/> <child><content/> <child><content/> </rootElement>   Each child element is an article and needs to fulfill 2 things: 1. have its own continual footnote numbering regardless of page or other child elements. 2. must allow for special cases to only have a star* instead of numerical numbering.   What I have tried to solve (1): - Use RWR to split up all child elements into seperate documents, setup numbering and then reference them in a single document again while retaining formats, but FM updates the footnote numbering anyway.   For (2) I can only imagine solutions that would require some intense workaround to insert supertext instead of actual footnotes to make it look like a footnote but have more control over what i

The recent profile change, implemented as part of the New Admin Console, put my FrameMaker subscription in a personal profile, but my Creative Suite subscription in a business profile. To use either profile you have to log in to that profile. Apart from how awkward this is, saving a PDF from FrameMaker will not now work, as the Acrobat Pro subscription is in the business profile. It would seem that Adobe have decided that an individual subscription to FrameMaker is for personal use. I have used the Chat app available at https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html however the first person, after I got through the BOT, was suggesting I cancel the subscription in the personal profile and add it in the business profile. Now the FrameMaker person is suggesting I have the CS subscription moved to the personal profile. The two subscriptions have been working together for several years now. Is it too much to expect that Adobe, given the profile change was made by Adobe,

I thought this would be an easy fix, but no! I tried re-tagging as a body/deleting; nothing works.This tag follows my Mini TOC.  Thinking that the heading was somehow attached to the TOC, I removed the TOC, but the tag remains. Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove this tag?  Thanks

I would like to validate a Dita file in Framemaker. I have the file open. In the Structure menu, the Validate... command is always grey. What's the trick? 

Gentlemen, thank you all very much for your help on my original isue, following your advice I can now MIF the 5.5 and open them in FM2019.My next challenge, as I mentioned before I’m new to Frame maker, is that the frames which contain the illustrations have lost their height settings. So, I now have 2 frames with illustration locators in each all on one page, they should be on separate pages. In word I would just stretch the frame and it would all roll on adding new pages as it went, not in FM. Would anybody tell the secret to adding extra pages in a document, so add new pages at 3 and 4 not just the end?  Please see jpg attachedThanks in advanceColin

My team works with Structured Adobe FrameMaker 11, version 11.0.0.380. There is an internally created Java-based application that runs on FrameMaker that launches a structured XML file from a FrameMaker menu bar selection and imports the XML into FrameMaker, which is then processed into a fully formatted document.The version of Java currently being used is the following:Java 8 Update 202My department is planning on replacing Java with Amazon Corretto:Amazon Corretto (x64) version 21.0.1.12 Does anyone have any experience working with Structured FrameMaker, along with Amazon Corretto? If so, have there been any performance issues involving Structured FrameMaker?Any information that can be provided will be helpful.Thanks  

I have created a document using F_ApiCustomDoc() to output a table data.Before outputing the table data, I use the following code (1) to hide the document.(1)F_ApiSetInt(FV_SessionId, docToId, FP_IsOnScreen, False);And after outputing the table data, I use the following code (2) to show the document.(2)F_ApiSetInt(FV_SessionId, docToId, FP_IsOnScreen, True);This code works well until Framemaker2015.But when I executed with FrameMaker2020, the document isn't shown after (2). I don't know what is causing it.Do you have any solution?

I see there are a few diacritical marks to choose from in the equation options, but I don't see the one I need. Framemaker also doesn't seem to allow pasting a letter with a diacritical mark straight into an equation. Am I missing something really simple? I am looking to place this letter into my equation: ó I know I could proboably find a work-around, but would love to keep it simple. As a side question, what is the default font in FrameMaker equations?

Can anybody help with getting FM 5.5 files into FM 2019 please. A task I have been given, Im a relativley new FM user.

In Framemaker 2020 (Unstructured), I am using the publish feature to convert the book (comprised of 15 chapters) to pdf. When it is converted to pdf, the pdf text flow does not match the framemaker text flow on random pages. In Framemaker a particular page will appear full of text in the template (no room for additional text). In pdf, it will bring up a line from the next page. On other pages that appear full in Frame, the text flow matches the pdf exactly. As it appears to happen randomly, it has a ripple effect on pages throughout that particular chapter. I also tried using the save to pdf feature, with the same result.   Is there a setting I am missing somewhere to keep this from happening?Jason E.    

Hello, My FrameMaker 2022 crashes or freezes a lot, sometimes several times a day.  It crashed eight times on Tuesday, three times on Wednesday, once yesterday and once today already. I usually get a message that looks like this:I try to e-mail fmerror@adobe.com and my messages come back as undeliverable. Please help.  Thanks!

Adobe FramemakerVersion: 2022(17.0.2.431)Client has shared multiple FM Books (Manuals) for localization. These manuals have cross reference links within the manuals and also across manuals. When we create PDFs after localization and DTP one by one, the internal Cross-References links remain intact, but the links to other manuals do not work.To reset these cross-manual links, we had to re-create the Cross-Reference links in Adobe Acrobat again.Is there any way we can create all pdfs in a batch instead of one by one such that the cross-reference links within and across files remain intact?We do not want a single PDF for all books, client wants individual PDFs for each FM book. Client’s Cross-references FrameMaker Editing Instructions for manualsMethod for generating PDFs after completing DTP in FrameMaker (including setting all cross-reference links):(1) Open all manual FM books.(2) Open all the files in each book.(3) Generate PDF (Export to PDF format).   Re-creating

I am trying to add a structured master page map so that I can exclude headers from certains parts of the publication. In my structured template that I have been using to build the publication, the only related reference page showing is UnstructMasterPageMaps, and I can't find any way to get StructMasterPageMaps to appear. I would like the ability to use element attributes to determine if a page should use a certain master page or not. 

Can I crop images in Adobe Frame Maker?

Hello. I am looking for a license to run FrameMaker 6 for Unix. I have files from graduate school I want to recover and convert to PDFs. I'm searching ebay and amazon, though no luck so far.

How can I hyperlink a heading of one chapater to the heading of another chapter in a Frame Maker book?

I use FrameMaker daily, and at the Custom Ruling and Shading function, I have conflicts, causing a critical error 16014 to appear on screen and then abruptly closing the program. Does anyone know what causes this, and what you can do about it?   Regards, Bert Witsmeer [PII removed by moderator]  

I'm not sure if this is a Frame question, an Adobe Distiller question, or a Windows question. Adobe TCS 2019 running on Windows 11.i9 CPU, 32GB RAM, all SSD storage.700-page book with many graphics (linked TIFF, PNG, PDF files).Printing the book to PDF using "Press Quality" settings (for handing off to a commercial printer) takes over 30 minutes to run. However, checking system monitor under Windows during the process, neither RAM nor CPU utilization ever even comes close to maximum; typically stays around 50%. It seems like a large portion of the time the system is idling (or close to it). How do I tell Frame, or Distiller, or Windows to "USE MOAR CPU!" so that the task completes faster rather than just meandering at its own pace? I realize that modern Windows and CPUs are geared towards multithreaded/multitasking. In the days of yesteryear when everything was singlethreaded, if you wanted better performance, just get a faster CPU. That doesn't appear to be the way

My work computer was recently upgraded to Windows 11 Pro (I run unstructured FM), and I find that when I resize artwork in a frame or select Ctrl+Alt and click on a link, it will often (20% of the time?) freeze up and I am forced to open Task Manager and hit 'End Task.'  Any ideas? 

I am working in structured FM 2022 and using the Mekon Eclipse for S1000D add-on. I need to use .cgm images with hotspots and specific width lines as per the Spec V2.2.I only have Solidworks Composer to create my .cgm images and they seem ok before they are imported by FM. When the image is converted by FM, the lines are wrong and the hotspots are not recognised.Can anyone suggest where I am going wrong, as images from the S1000D bike pack with hotspots work ok?

FrameMaker 11 case. Depending on how to save dita or ditamap to PDF the element order will be different. I have a following structure in FrameMaker dita (which is part of a ditamap):<fig outputclass="something"><title>TEXT</title> <image feature="x" brand="y" xtrf="../../z.eps" href="/z.eps" align="left" placement="break" width="4.549in" height="4.170in"/></fig>If I choose Save as... > PDF... the result is fine. Title comes first and image after that. But if I want to save the whole ditamap as one and choose Save Ditamap As > PDF... the result is wrong. Image comes first and title after that. Also, if I save the ditamap first to FrameMaker book, after that this happens:If I choose option Save Book As... > PDF... the result is fine (title comes first and image after that). But if I choose option Save Book As... > PDF with components image comes first. Does anyone know what FrameMaker does differently in these actions?

Hi, I have a valid ditamap with id values on the concepts. When I save the ditamap as a Composite FrameMaker document, my concept id values are getting replaced by ids generated by FrameMaker. Any idea how to prevent this? I am using FrameMaker 2022, the latest update.

  FMjsxLib as described on https://www.daube.ch/docu/fmaker88.html has now reached version 1.8. It comprises about 240 functions, mostly accompagnied by a demo script. The documentation is about 380 pages (of which 70 are a Table of FrameMaker commands). ► For the time being I will not continue work on this project.
