FrameMaker

Hello ,W7, Framemaker 11.I work with a book, and all the files from that book, open. The files from the book are all consolidated.Recently when I zoom in or out, Framemaker un-docks the file. If I carry on zooming, the  file underneath the active file  responds.I then have to move the file and then in a seperate movement, re-dock.It really is surprising how annoying this is.Any ideas?

Hi, I would like to know if there is any option in the FDK11 to disable the FrameMaker console window which runs on every frame file transformation. This was happening with FrameMaker 10 too but it had never affected the performance. With FrameMaker 11 the performance takes a huge hit and code slumps in the middle of the transformation. Throw your thoughts on how to disable or to periodically clear the contents running on the console. Thanks, Venkat

This has happened to me on Frame 6, Frame 7, Frame 8, and Frame 9. It's happened with Acrobat 7, 9, and 10. Occasionally, when I print a book in FrameMaker, the Index bookmarks are out of sequence in the generated PDF. They appear as subheadings in the file BEFORE the index, and the Index bookmark itself has no subheadings.For example, the bookmarks look like this:TitleTable of Contents1 Introduction2 Basics (other chapters)    Symbols    Numerics    A    B    ...    ZIndexIn this book, the bookmarks from "Symbols" through "Z" are in the Index file. But, they don't appear in the correct sequence in the PDF.Note: To create PDFs, I use the Acrobat PDF printer driver, distilling the book to a ps file, then running Distiller to create the PDF. When this problem arises, I move the bookmarks to where they should goThis is a great puzzlement. Can anyone tell me why this happens?

I can't install the TCS4 trial version on two different XP SP3 systems. Adobe has no solution to this problem. The Installer says "System Requirements" as error message after selection of the different applications. Then I get the link to the Adobe TCS homepage. Any idea?Thanks in advanceMartin Kellner

I am using Tech Suite 4/Frame 11 on Windows 7. Why do I have table content disappear and reappear at times? When I zoom up, at times only partial content appears. Also, in the images below, the first is 100%, the second is 120% and the third is 140%. When I zoomed up to 120%, the content partially appeared, but when I started to scroll to the right to view this table better, the content totally disappeared. What is going on? Is this another bug with Adobe? It is frustrating wondering what may be in the table for content when it comes to outputting to PDF or making updates.

Helloi buyed the new FM 11 but the others user in my lan have FM 8; is possible save in FM11 in FM8 version?thanks

Hello,I am using FM11 and DITA 1.2.I have a bookmap that consists of <frontmatter>, 3 <chapter>, 3 <appendix>, and <backmatter>.In <frontmatter>, I have two <topicref> elements that contain DITA filesIn the <backmatter> I have my glossary DTIA file.When I save the ditamap as Book 11 with fm components none of the files in <frontmatter> and <backmatter> publish.I have the ditafm-output.ini set up to GenerateFlatBook=1Regards,Stan

I have a client that is considering going from FrameMaker to InDesign...because someone "within Adobe" said that FrameMaker was being phased out and that InDesign will be taking over the large document business. This client has many participant manuals that are text intensive with over 75+ pages, and all graphics are embedded in these documents. One of their products is almost 2000 pages and we use WebWorks to convert to the web.Quite frankly, I have both products and use InDesign for projects that are graphic intensive and less than 10 pages. I've always considered it a good marketing product. But most of work I do for clients...FrameMaker is king, and never "breaks" like Word.So the question(s) (you knew that there had to be a question): Is FrameMaker going to be around for awhile? Does anyone know if InDesign is slated to take over the FrameMaker business? What would you say to the client that may want to go from FrameMaker to InDesign?Thanks,Cindy

Hi all,I set up table formats for different types of notes and the roundtrip XML<->FM works so far. However, I have not been able to format the paragraphs within the tables using context rules.When I insert a table of a certain type (e.g. table_warning), then FM writes this type into the outputclass of the table's tgroup element when saving as XML. So I thought for the paragraph elements in the table I could use a rule that specifies a context like this:* < tgroup[outputclass = "table_warning"]Yet FM does not recognize the outputclass type.How can I address the table type in context rules? Edit: I have been able to succeed when I wrap the entire table into an additional note element and manually define the outputclass for the note. Then I can use a context like * < note[outputclass = "table_warning"]. But I would prefer to omit the extra note element and refer to the table type directly.Robert

Hi,I am using a method to Save Frame file as PDF using FDK 11 and this works fine. Currently, I have a requirement to Save the whole Frame book as PDF for which i am trying with the same method but the output is not accurate. The contents in the rendered PDF is cropped to the Top and Right. I'm using a DITA 1.2 structured app and templates that I've set up. I'm generally happy with the output that I'm getting now, but I've also come to realize that I have two different situations for PDF output--in situation one, I need to set up for printed books, i.e., facing pages, keeping chapters starting on right-hand pages and so on. Situation two is for electronically-distributed PDFs that are NOT books--files that customers might print themselves, probably not double-sided, so I don't need facing pages with the associated blank pages in the file, and so on. I'm using flags in the ditafm-output.ini file to control the pagination for the printed book in my output. Both situations currently use the same output templates, though I may create a single-sided template for situation two. That's easy enough. My question, then, is this: It seems to me that I'll need two different ditafm-output.ini files for the two situations. Is there an easy way to switch between them? Output seems separ

Trying out Tech Communicator Suite 4, I just tried doing File > Publish on a FrameMaker book, and asking it to convert it into .CHM files.It pops up a "Please wait..." dialog with a stripey animated progress bar that is a 100% right away. It's been sitting there like that for about 10 minutes now (whilst firing off Distiller in the background from time to time).I appreciate that it may take a few mins to chomp through a big book and spit out the .chm, but I was expecting a slightly better progress dialog than what I'm seeing! Has anyone else on the forum used this workflow? Is this the way it always behaves? I was expecting the progress bar to at least, well, you know... show some progress

Hoping someone has an answer to this...I'm on Frame 11 (11.0.0.380) on Windows 7.I'm running into a strange issue with headings that are autonumbered. Everything works as expected... until I include a proccedure that has autonumbered steps and sub-steps. The heading immediately following the procedure renumbers from the beginning. The image below shows an example. There are three headings, which are numbered correctly. Then I inserted a subheading with a procedure and the heading below it has incorrect numbering. This only happens in headings that follow a procedure. The autonumbers for the paragraphs are:Heading1: <$chapnum>.<n+>Heading2: <$chapnum>.<n>.<n+>Numbered: S:<n+>/\tNumberedCont1 (sub-step): <a=1>.\tIs there something incorrectly set up in the autonumber format or is this a bug?

We are using TCS 4 on a Windows 7, 64 bit platform.When we installed TCS 4, we did not get Acrobat X Pro (nor XI).So, I inserted the installation DVD to see if I could just install Acrobat Pro, and the Adobe Installer would not proceed because it detected an installation of TCS 4 already.So, I uninstalled TCS 4 (a 30 minute ordeal), and proceeded to install it all over again, this time hoping to verify that Acrobat Pro was, in fact, selected in the product check list.In the product check list, Acrobat X Pro was indeed selected in the product check list. Installed it all over again (another 30 minute ordeal).Saw the statement: Installing Acrobat X Pro.When the installation was done, saw the following: "Some items for the following product(s) could not be installed successfully." I work with FM9. I can't create tabs in a paragraph via paragraph designer or by drag and drop. When I open paragraph designer and click 'edit' the tab position window pops up but when I enter a value and press 'continue' the windows disappear and no fault message pops up. It's like nothing happened. Any idea what can be the issue?According to IT all my permission settings etc. are ok and the latest version of 9.0 p255 is installed.I've tried to call and/or chat about this issue with Adobe but keep being parked on hold by Framemaker dept., Terrible service!!! case# 184532797

In the last week, FrameMaker has arbitrarily changed the layout of my pages all by itself.I will be in the middle of writing, and when I scroll or jump up to the first page, suddenly all my pages have a 1.5" left-hand column and the 'Room for sideheads' option has been enabled.These are docs I've been working with for two years. This has never happened before, and I haven't changed any settings myself.What's going on?

1) Searching for elements Tbody, Row, and possibly others in a document doesn't work properly. Using find repeatedly only selects the same first item found and no others unless you move the cursor. However when selecting book, find works as expected and selects all elements sequentially. Don't know a work-around.Has anybody had similar experiences? Hello,when I save several books each to a pdf-file with save as pdf (or printing to .ps and converting afterwards), the bookmarks are deleted when I combine the pdf-files with Acrobat. Only one bookmark for the 1st. file exists in the new pdf-file.The reference of the bookmarks in the original generated file is e.g. "g3.619626".These references are not anymore available in the combined files.I've tried several settings before saving as pdf but nothing helped.Ther are no problems of combining ordinary pdf-files with bookmarks if they are generated by other programs then Framemaker.I need to combine files as well within a book, as "save to pdf" is not able, to generate one file with different pages sizes. I then need to generate a separate pdf-file of the pages with the for e.g. bigger page size and combine it afterwards.In that project I'm working there will over all something between 1000 and 1500 pages from maybe 10 books with hunderts of bookmarks plus additionally separete pfd files

I tried to move the suite to a new computer. Deactivating the licenses from the other computer and installing it on the new one. I find that Frame is throwing the error, meanwhile, Captivate and RoboHelp are still working fine.
