For some days I get this Error message regular (several times per day). I could not really reproduce it. Very annoying. MacOS, InDesign, all newest versions.
Well, I have another mystery. When exporting my documents to Epub Reflowable, some of my footnote numbers in the endnotes aren't superscripted, and it looks very messy. I noticed that the these footnotes numbers looked like Oldstyle for some reason, so I restyled the "Superscript" Character Style's OpenType Features as Proportional Lining and removed all the other OpenType options. I've tried everything else I can think of but to no avail.I've attached the Epub file, the InD file, and screenshots of one of the too-big footnotes plus the Character Style OpenType Features and Basic Character. Thanks!Susan
I am unable to reach my first three dropdown menus in InDesign. For example, when I click on "File" the drop down menu shows, but as soon as I move the cursor it opens another menu. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I thought it had something to do with my computer but tech department at my work told med to bug report it to Adobe. This is when I click to open the menu, with the cursor still at the menu barThis is how it looks when I move the cursor down a bit and another menu opensSo, does anyone know why this happens? Any solutions? Is this something I need to bug report?Best,Julia
I'm having a problem that I found several previous posts about, but none of them solve my problem. Three chapters are missing from my TOC (Abstract, Intro, and Chapter 1), and I can't figure it out. Here's what I've done after reading the posts:1. Checked the paragraph styles, which are all correct. I synchronized the book using a chapter that is included in the TOC just to make sure2. Checked that the text in the naughty chapters aren't on hidden layers and selected "include text on hidden layers" just to be extra thorough3. I have no style groupings in this book, so that's not the problem Attached are screenshots of my TOC creation box and the test TOC, plus a shot of the book file with the missing chapter highlighted.I'm happy to share the TOC file and one naughty and one nice chapter. Thanks for any help!Susan
When using Adobe PDF [Press Quality] for my InDesign CS6 file, the display format gets changed(see the InDesign and Acrobat pictures and also the Edit > Preferences > Display Performance settings below)
I am going to be traveling for a week or two.I have a laptop that I am bringing with me.All my InDesign files are on my main computer.I want to be able to work on my book while I am traveling on my laptop. I know I can use the packaging feature in InDesign and then I can work on my book while traveling using the package that I created. However, I want to leave all my files where they are on my original computer because I have a method to where they are each located. I know I could create the exact same directories and files on the laptop that are on my main computer and that would work, but that seems like a lot of work to do that. If I work on my book with the packaging that I create, all the edits will be done in the package directory that I created.I can’t really do a one-on-one compare when I get back because the packing will change everything once I put into a package. Does anyone have any advice of how I could work on my laptop while I am traveling and st
What font size should I use for A4 brochure?1. font size for header2. sub header3. body4. captionsThanks
Hello all. I've created an index for a 90 page document. It updates and generates a new index with no problem, but when I place the index in my document, it only goes to 'S' and there is still room in that space to be filled and shows that there is overset text. When I click on the overset text box, and place it in the next column, only the next 'S' entry appears. What the heck is happening and how do I fix this? Thanks in advance!
This is exhausting. Let me try and be as clear as I can in describing this issue because its a nightmare. I write fantasy novels, and I am 3 books deep and still have no idea how to fix this tab issue. In my paragraph style options all my indentations are set to 0, yet my tab is still .5 inches from margin. When I try to readjust tab settings to .25 (desired setting) it moves the entire margin over. When I try to adjust the First Line Indentation it moves the entire margin over. I went into bullet options and click on the double arrow symbol and that indentation setting seemed to actually work on my First Line Indentations but I cant save the change. The most basic question really is why when I press tab it repeats or is .5', and why is it so so so hard to change? And is there a way to save my bullet option tab dimension?Thank you for help, ahead of time. I cant wait to get back to actually writing and not have to worry about this.
Good afternoon InDesign support community, so basically Im designing an interactive magazine about Black Cats for my college class Layout And Publishing In InDesign and one of the requirements in Paragraph Styles now 2 major things. 1. they're easy for me execpt when I created a new paragraph style for one of the articles and it looks like this(see image 1 below) so heres the settings or preferences i put the paragraph style as (see images 2 and 3 below) and heres what the paragraph style is supposed to look like(see last image at the bottom of the images 1,2 and 3) so as you can see it doesn't look like that and when i did the exact same thing in a new document it worked perfectly. 2. When I select a piece of text like a article title or something that I want to be a heading or a subheading etc... and I click on the paragraph style that I created after I added all the text to my pages of my magazine it adds the paragraph style to all of the text instead of just t
Hello, I'm laying out a bilingual, Traditional Chinese + English document. I'm using the client's house font, Noto Sans TC. For some reason my Indesign is using half-width characters for all the punctuation in the Chinese text, which is messing up their line-breaks and layout. The font definitely includes full-width punctuation (because they have used it on other documents), and chaning to another Chinese font displays the same punctuation correctly as full-width, but not the font I need to use. Can anyone advise on what might be causing this problem? Thank you so much!
Can the script distinguish if I'm selecting an image or a text box?For example, if I select an image, it returns: you selected image 1.If I select both, it returns: You selected image 1 and textbox 1.
Hi I'm hoping you can help with problems I’ve run into with paragraph styles for an ebook I'm designing. I've tried the usual fixes like uninstall/reinstall, restart computer, reset preferences. I have also retyped affected content on new inserted pages. And tried other documents. I have a brand new, high-powered computer (Omen gaming laptop) that meets all the InDesign specs. I didn't import or paste any of the content from Word. I'm not using soft returns (ie. I'm pressing enter not shift + enter). Additional background: I spent over 3 hours in Adobe chat and on the phone with them a few days ago (I timed it), in one session trying to get resolved other problems I've been having that just randomly cropped up after having worked fine previously. Eg: not being able to package documents or use find/replace. I get error messages every time I export documents as PDF or epubs to the latest version of Kindle Previewer. The Adobe agents kept escalating to other engineers

I tried In Design and found it a pain to place photos to create a print ad, so I used Microsoft Word instead. It is cake to resize images in MS Word - a far easier design tool to use. I guess In Design is for people who don't have MS Word. Again, I don't see any value to In Design, which comes off as a half baked app. What am I missing?
I'm working on a book. And I've got all the material in a Word file. And I've made 150 pages.- but now I find out that the Quotation Marks are in English Quotation Marks. But they shouldn't be inEnglish Quotation Marks.! - they should be German or Danish. - so that the apostrophes start at the bottom og the line and end at the upper - see example here:these are in English: “Quotation Marks in English”these are in Danish: „Quotation Marks in German or Danish” - and I want the whole book with Danish „Quotation Marks"!How can I change this with just one click?I've watched this video: https://youtu.be/VEObBdR4qgI?si=qK0rwJgNn0jaqm3b , - But it didn't help at all.Can anyone help me?Thank you very much!
I have set all the Table and Cell strokes to Color=NONE and Weight=0 but these lines keep showing up when I export the image. I was originally thinking of White border which is why White cell border persists but cannot get rid of it. I am trying to export the graphic create graphic for retractable banner and need to get rid of these cell outlines. I have searched every possible tech note on tables and borders and nothing works. Help!
Is there a reason/setting that InDesign automatically changes the kerning on ending quotation marks? Sometimes it happens and sometimes it does not, but it ends up putting the quotation marks directly over the ending punctuation. When I set it to zero, it looks a lot less squished. Is there a way to get it to not do this?
Hello, I am working on a set of construction documents with a table that has a ton of hyperlinks set to text anchors throughout the document. We need to be able to create new versions of the document with the file name updated. Each time I do this, it breaks the destination link because it still points to the old document name. Is there a way to set it up differently so the hyperlink is always pointing to the current document rather than a specific file name? Or am I stuck manually changing hundreds of text anchor destinations every time we rename the file? Thank you!
Newbie GREP user here. Please forgive any bonehead assumptions on my part. Hundreds of footnote citations in my document end with a unique file code that corresponds to a digital image. Example: [B1234] About 25% of those footnotes cite multiple sources, requiring a "stacked" format. Most also end with their own unique file code. I set up the footnotes paragraph style to include a tab for the beginning of the second and third citations. Works like a charm. Next, I added a GREP style to make the file codes bold (see image below). The tabs still work but.... Any idea why GREP is also converting the first word that follows a file code to bold text? This is driving me batty.
Hi there,I'm trying to align on the same line some part of my text to the left and some part of my text to the right.I've tried using Tabs but couldn't seem to be able to set them up properly. Thanks in advance for your help.
I'm looking for some insight with the InDesign "Data Merge" functionality as it relates to Articles and Tagging in the exported PDF. We have a document layout with placeholders for incoming data, and everything is perfect and Articles are correct. Exporting to PDF (Interactive) works for the base document, and the resulting PDF passes PAC 2024 just fine (albeit with variable names instead of actual data). If we connect to the dataset (a CSV spreadsheet), map the variables to the correct placeholders, and run the merge (to an InDesign document), the resulting multi-page document (one page for each row in the data) has the Articles for the first page, i.e. the very first row of data, but the subsequent pages are NOT articled. So when we Export to an interactive PDF, we're missing Tags on every other page after page 1. The first page is great, it passes the PAC tests 100%, but the rest of the pages fail because they are essentially untagged. Anyone run into this before? I h
Hello, since updating to v19.0 there are three specific glyphs that change colour and font when exporting the document to pdf. Font: Segoe UI Emoji, Unicodes: 1F170, 1F171, 1F17F. In InDesigns the glyphs are shown as in a dark grey (see figure 1), that's the way it's supposed to look. When I export the document to pdf those glyphs are suddenly pink and blue (see figure 2). I have notived that there's a different font in InDesign with the same unicodes which shows the glyphs in pink and blue. However that is not the font I assigned to the glyphs in InDesign. I installed the older version 18.5 again and there a no more problems. So there's probably a bug in v19.0. Does someone know what I could do to handle this or is this something Adobe needs to resolve? Thanks!
