Newbie GREP user here. Please forgive any bonehead assumptions on my part. Hundreds of footnote citations in my document end with a unique file code that corresponds to a digital image. Example: [B1234] About 25% of those footnotes cite multiple sources, requiring a "stacked" format. Most also end with their own unique file code. I set up the footnotes paragraph style to include a tab for the beginning of the second and third citations. Works like a charm. Next, I added a GREP style to make the file codes bold (see image below). The tabs still work but.... Any idea why GREP is also converting the first word that follows a file code to bold text? This is driving me batty.
Hi there,I'm trying to align on the same line some part of my text to the left and some part of my text to the right.I've tried using Tabs but couldn't seem to be able to set them up properly. Thanks in advance for your help.
I'm looking for some insight with the InDesign "Data Merge" functionality as it relates to Articles and Tagging in the exported PDF. We have a document layout with placeholders for incoming data, and everything is perfect and Articles are correct. Exporting to PDF (Interactive) works for the base document, and the resulting PDF passes PAC 2024 just fine (albeit with variable names instead of actual data). If we connect to the dataset (a CSV spreadsheet), map the variables to the correct placeholders, and run the merge (to an InDesign document), the resulting multi-page document (one page for each row in the data) has the Articles for the first page, i.e. the very first row of data, but the subsequent pages are NOT articled. So when we Export to an interactive PDF, we're missing Tags on every other page after page 1. The first page is great, it passes the PAC tests 100%, but the rest of the pages fail because they are essentially untagged. Anyone run into this before? I h
Hello, since updating to v19.0 there are three specific glyphs that change colour and font when exporting the document to pdf. Font: Segoe UI Emoji, Unicodes: 1F170, 1F171, 1F17F. In InDesigns the glyphs are shown as in a dark grey (see figure 1), that's the way it's supposed to look. When I export the document to pdf those glyphs are suddenly pink and blue (see figure 2). I have notived that there's a different font in InDesign with the same unicodes which shows the glyphs in pink and blue. However that is not the font I assigned to the glyphs in InDesign. I installed the older version 18.5 again and there a no more problems. So there's probably a bug in v19.0. Does someone know what I could do to handle this or is this something Adobe needs to resolve? Thanks!
Setting up a TOC for a course reader… Everything is basically right, EXCEPT indesign is inserting extra numbers on the third-level lines. I already have the chapter sections set up to be numbered as 1.1, 1.2, and so on (TOC3 paragraph style, which I’ve applied to the third-level lines via the TOC settings). But, there are still extra numbers being added to the chapter section lines, as well as the chapter summary and reference lines. For reference, the first photo is regular text with my TOC paragraph styles assigned—basically how I want it to look (ignoring the unjustified page numbers). Second screenshot shows the generated TOC with extra numbers; even if I manually change a line’s paragraph style, the extra number remains. So I’m assuming the problem lies somewhere within the TOC settings; I just can’t figure out what it is. I feel like I’ve toggled every possible setting and haven’t seen a difference.
I just installed updates for Photoshop and Photoshop beta and received this error on opening Indesign. Any ideas? [I am on a Mac Mini M4] - there is no error opening Photoshop or Photoshop Beta. <Title renamed by MOD>
I'm encountering an issue with an InDesign document that I published online. Certain pages in my document are taking significantly longer to load for viewers, while other pages load quickly and smoothly. The puzzling part is that the slow-loading pages do not contain any photography. They are primarily text-based and include some icons (created within InDesign or placed as vector graphics).
my InDesign was working fine. finished up a file. opened up a different file, but when I pasted in a graphic, I realized that I couldn't move it. went back to the first file I had been in and I was no longer able to move anything there either! I updated to InDesign 2017. i'm on a windows 10 os. thanks for any feed back.

For the past about 12h - from about 23:30, March 14th - it's extremely slow in loading? It's like on a dial-up modem? Doesn't look like a problem with transatlantic connection as other websites from North America are loading fast. 5G on my phone: And home broadband / WiFi:

Silke
Hello. Is it possible to save out layers to a PSD from InDesign? I saw a script that people used called IDtoPSV6 however, that was a long time ago. I am not sure where you are meant to put the files. And I am not sure if it will even work. In the new version of Indesign 2020. It would be really useful if you were able to export as, just like you can in Illustrator, without having to export every layer individually. Thank you again
Hi I am trying to individually hyperlink text presented as a list of articles, each on a separate line (i.e. The text is the article name). Each line has a return after it but when I hyperlink the text (without highlighting the return), it keeps defaulting every line to the last hyperlink I linked to? This seems to be happening whehter I have 'shared hyperlink destination' selected or not? Can anyone help?
I place a multipage pdf to indesgin. Now I want to edit it? Is it possible to edit this document in indesign, or do I have to edit it somewhere else? As you can see I have no Idea how to use indesign. I am tasked with modifying our companies technical manual. Can someone point me in the right direction? thanks much!
Hello,I'm having a problem numbering my pages in Indesign. I would like my two page numbers to appear only on my left page. But when I add an active page number + a next page number, the next page number remains the active page number. Like I can't number a page if it's the next page. You see on the attached document, I would like it to say "4/5" and not "4/4". Thanks for your answers.
I have to create technical documents for my company. Originals come from Word, they're placed into InDesign 2024 and formatted for our branding. I Share for Review with editors through InDesign. Once approved, I export an interactive PDF (which gets posted in our online store for people to purchase). Because our technical standards have to be reviewed and revised by multiple people who only have Microsoft Word, I have to provide an archival version of the document in Word. So, I open the PDF in Acrobat Pro and export to Microsoft Word. While the formatting "look" comes through (including page breaks), none of the original style names are there. The next time the Word files come back to me, I can't just flow it in and have it automatically format because the styles are no longer there to match what's in InDesign, I then have to apply styles again, which is double work. I can export RTF from InDesign then open the RTF in Word and the style names are there, but the layout
Hello, When I add new pages to my document, they are added as right-hand (recto) pages. Do you have any idea how I can get them to add normally on the left (verso)? It doesn't do this on all documents, and I created this one. So, I'm highly confused. I know I can drag the pages around, but it's getting annoying with so many pages to add. I'm attaching a screenshot showing my Pages panel options and how the pages are being added. Thank you.
Hello, I have multiple adobe pdf files that have layers. I am using InDesign to combine them into one INDD file to export it as one pdf. However, the layers of the adobe pdf files are not retained in the exported pdf file. Is there a way I can retain these adobe pdf file layers so that I can modify the layer values after I combine the pdfs into one file? also, is this possible using InDesign Server or any plugin/scripting?(I cannot modify the adobe pdf file layer values before combining) Thank you!
I have a damaged file that continues to crash in Indesign - cant figure out why. Typically I'd just redo the work but this a book with almost 200 pages - Anyone have suggestions <Title renamed by MOD>
I've just finished a 300+ page book for printing on Amazon; process was very easy and book looks great. I want to publish this as a reflowable ebook, also on Amazon. So far the only way I've thought of is to export the InD files back into Word and upload them that way. I don't think this is a good solution. I exported to Epub and got mixed results, but anyway I want it reflowable. Am I missing something obvious? Any ideas? Thanks,Susan
I figured this out for the 2024 version of Adobe Indesign. Launch InDesign, and choose a Workspace.Go to Window --> Application Frame and make sure this is UNchecked.Go to the upper left corner (to the left of the home icon) and drag the Application Frame down from the top of the screen. The Control Strip should shift up in its place.Quit InDesign.Go to this folder: (This has changed, preferences are in an Adobe Indesign folder without the year) Volume > Users > username > Library > Preferences > Adobe InDesign (no year) > Version 19 > en_US > Workspaces There should be several .xml files in there. Look at the modification dates - the one most recently modified is the one you're using. Open that file with the Text Editor. (Right click on the file, open with --> Text Editor) Search for this text: app-container - and it should take you to a line that looks like this toward the bottom:<app-container-control-bar id="63" origin="346 612"
