Hi, I'm working through tutorials to learn InDesign. I just tried to select paragraph styles in the styles panel, then click "add selected styles to current CC library". The styles show up in my current library for a few seconds but greyed out. I hover the cursor over the greyed out styles and there's a note "This item is not supported in InDesign". (attached screenshots of the steps) I haven't had any trouble adding items to my library so far - color swatches, graphics, text. What could be going on? I tried adding them individually, and multiple. They keep just disappearing. Any idea what's going on?
I am editing a book and it is almost complete with textboxes exactly matching the page margins. I have set page numbers and headers in the parent page and that is fine. However I now see that the top of the text frame is a bit too close to the page number/headers. So I want to lower the top of the frame a bit. But it is a 200 page book and I don't want to have to do this on every page. Is there a way of selecting all the text frames so I can do this for the entire document? I have spent some time researching Google/YouTube but I have yet to find a solution.
I’ve been trying out InDesign’s “Next Style” feature recently in an attempt to automate text styling and would like to find an answer to a question that occurred to me while doing so.I don’t understand why “Next Styles” are not applied when pasting several paragraphs inside a text box. With the “first” paragraph style of a "Next Styles" “chain” applied to a text frame, why are all pasted paragraphs styled according to the preferences set for the first paragraph, instead of following the sequence set up in the "chain"?When I paste text and do a hard return, the Next Style won't apply. It only works if I type out everything manunally in InDesign. Is there a way to make it work with pasted copy? It would save a lot of time. I really don't want to have to manually click each part and apply a style when I know it can do it automatically.

Hi: I'm trying to format my TOC. My chapters have the word "Chapter" in a smaller font than the one used for the number. I don't want that font size difference to appear in the TOC. I've set the font size for the TOC List (what I've named each TOC entry) for 11, but the number still comes in as it is formatted at the beginning of the chapter. Can I override the larger font size? If so, how? Thank you!
Is there a way to stop this toolbar from opening up every time I click an image in InDesign (and all Adobe products actually) - see attached photo? If I want a generative AI image, I'd request it. but this is incredibly annoying... I'm working in Adobe InDesign 19.5 on a Mac. Thanks!
I am editing a book with a lot of speech in the text and so a lot of double quotes. The scan has missed a large number of full stops at the end of sentences. So it might end "...and there the matter rested"What I want to do is search for every double right quotation mark that is not preceded by a full stop and replace it with full stop plus double right quotation mark. Is there some clever, possibly GREP way to do that or do I have to search every sentence?
When I try and export a High Quality PDF I get the error above. It doesn't seem to happen with a Press Quality export. What can I do to eliminate this error, as the High Quality and Press Quality PDFs have very obviously different colours on screen. They've not gone to the printers yet. I don't want to end up with several 100k leaflets with the wrong colours coming back from the printers.
Hi everyone,I'm working on a project in Adobe InDesign where I need to dynamically adjust the height of textFields (create from buttons and forms) using scripting. I've explored the scripting documentation but haven't found a straightforward way to achieve this. Could someone please guide me on how to modify the height of atextFields (create from buttons and forms) programmatically in InDesign? Any examples or pointers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
I have recently got my first job at a design and marketing company where most of their clients are builders, developers and architects. My work here as designer is designing property brochures. Now the company CEO to save the printing costs to the company has asked my senior to decide which of the pages in brochure can be printed at a lower DPI. Usually the pages that have smaller images and more text get printed at lower DPI.This surprised me initially, but upon asking my senior, he told me that printing pages at lower DPI means less ink usage and hence discounted printing for the company. Now, brochures are of a lot of different sizes like 11' x 17', 9' x 12', and 11' x 25' being the most common one at our company. So I have to calculate the dimensions for the each brochure pages in pixels based on the PPI and then design and export them at the correct DPI setting. Then I have to create batches of files based on the DPI and send them to our printing partner for printing.Calculating the
Hey all:I asked my question earlier in the general InDesign section of the forum, but a helpful user suggested I repost it here as it will take some scripting magic to accomplish:My work assignment of late has been developing an interactive PDF catalog of our products that my superior can distribute digitally and let potential customers browse without accessing the website. We have an Excel file that lists all the details of our products - name, description, title, image, category, etc. I have used Data Merge to create this 300 page document rather than hand-copy each product's information to a single page.Unfortunately I am now stuck - I have designed the catalog in such a way that I have an image that I want to make a button which, if the person wishes to purchase a product, will take them directly the the product page online where he or she can add it to the shopping cart. This is great, but I cannot seem to find a way to make the image button's link a variable as the rest of the pag
Hi all, I have looked through similar posts but none seem to cover this. I started a new file, but there is an odd frame on the master pages which cannot be selected, deleted, etc. See the attached screenshot; the blue frame is good, it's the pink frame I need to delete. I don't know how it got there, no clue why it's there, but I don't want to hand a client the file at the end with this messiness. Help please? Thanks in advance. 🙂
I can find the imperfections of INDEISGN every day.For example, on the left line, I set up 2mm at first. Later, I wanted to restore the initial default (not modified), but I found that I couldn't go back. Can I only build a new style?
The left page becomes the right page, is the problem of dislocation of the picture solved? The original object should be moved left or right for 3mm.
Hey, I am trying to space dots on the page 5mm apart. My document units and increments are set to MM but when I go into Stroke > Stroke styles > New... to define this, the pattern length is set to Pica. How do I change the pattern length to be in MM instead of Pica?
Hi I was trying to upgrade my stand alone "in-design" package to the "all apps" package.Unfortunately ive ended up with two packegs in parrallel costing me £56 for all apps (including in-design) and now another £21 on top for in design again. I am trying to convert an RTF file into a reflowable ePub using InDesign. I had formerly created a new ePub following Anne-Marie Concepcion's video tutorials and in that new file of mine I set a new Workspace, names it, and populated it with new paragraph and chracter styles and so on. The workspace works beuatifully in that file. But when I created a "new document" in Indesign, it has the name of my customized workspace (the one that I customized in the other file) at the very top of the workspace just as I expect to, as if it is working, but when I open the panels for paragraphs and characterstyles, it is as if I have never created a workspace at all. It only shows blank_paragraphs as an option. Can someone help, ...please? Thanks, Rick Reiman
How do I turn off the horizontal lines that appear when an InDesign page is zoomed in above 100%? They do not go away when I hide/show guides, only when I zoom out to 100% or smaller. They make the page look like ruled loose leaf paper...super annoying. InDesign CC, Windows 10 .
Hi,I am trying to create a pdf in Indesign with pages that flip and turn.I have opened up a new document, Intent for Web, and set up multiple spreads.I have then right click on the pages, 'page attributes' and then 'page transactions'.This gives me all options like fade, uncover, dissolve etc but it DOESN'T give me a Turning page option. Please help...... Morning! I am unable to continue working on my project. I recieve this message when opening InDesign (Beta).Your InDesign (Beta) build has expired.I have reinstalled the app and I still received the same message then is closes itself down and won't let me continue. What does this mean and how do I resolve this? I can see there are a few past post on this issue. Why does this keep happening? Am I better off using the normal InDesign. We chose Beta so the team can collaborate more easily.
I'm designing a short book of poems (actually one long poem with 75 stanzas.) I've done an ePub before for a novel but I need to keep each stanza to its own page resembling the paperback version. I don't think Amazon allows for static ePubs so it has to be exported as reflowable. Is there a way to maintain the stanza breaks? And also the wide margins? Thanks!Jane
When ever I open a document, a recent preset named custom appears.I don't need it. Please help me .Adobe InDesign^Create new^New document^🕓Recent^Your recent items.Please...... Help me
I tried opening my indesign indb file in version 19.1 and all of the links are linking to page 1 and not their correct page. This goes for the hyperlinked tabs on each page as well as the table of contents (TOC was created with the TOC menu in indesign). I saved all of the book files to idml, reopened them in verison 18.0 and put them into a book file and the links work. What is the issue with the newer indesign version not holding the links when you crate a pdf?
HiI am trying to create epub file from InDesign v 19 (new one)and my footnote numbers are links with blue color (not as designed)butwhen I generate epub file from InDesign version 18, everything looks almost okinstead of page numbers!(living page name works, and it is on the same master page with page number) there are 2 language versions with the same problemany idea how to fix that?I am so close to the final.: )
