InDesign

I'm trying to get text backgrounds to be partially transparent so you can still see the imagery behind it. I want a background that isn't intrusive, something like what you would be through smoke-coloured sunglasses. However, no matter what I do I end up with a solid, fully opaque text background. I highlight the text, go to the three little bars at the top right of the toolbar>Paragraph Border and Shading>Shading>checkmar shading, choose black, set tint at 20%, check Overprint, then Okay. I go back to where the text is, and what I get is not a sem-transparent background, but a solid grey (presumably what Indesign thinks is 20% black.) If I click on overprint preview, I see exactly what I want, black that is partially see-through, but when I export it to a PDF I've got the solid grey again. I don't get it, and can't find any information online for this specific issue. I've included two images, one with what I want and what I am actually getting. Any help would be much apprecia

I have been trying to develop a Hunspell dictionary for my mother tongue, Persian. As you may know, there is no prebuilt Hunspell dictionary in Adobe Indesign for the Persian language. I have done the dictionary and affixes files for it and my glossary is almost complete. Here is my problem: the Hunspell dictionary in Indesign behaves a little bit differently in Indesign in comparison with other environments that support Hunspell e.g. Firefox and Chrome browsers. In Persian, many words have Zero Width Non-Joiner (ZWNJ). Although the words in my dictionary do have the ZWNJ, the Indesign is not able to detect them and acts as if there is no such character. How can I overcome this problem?

 I have created a TOC style with the entry style is selected as Same style. Hi,I have found a reproducible bug (I think) in Indesign 18.2 on macOS 13.2.1 with Intel processorWhen trying to export a Indesign document where there is a placed indesign document containing any text frame, Indesign will give an error while exporting, and eventually crash. To reproduce:- create a new blanc indesign document and add a text frame with some text- save and close that file- make another new indesign file, place the previous made indesign file- try to export to pdf (print) with any settings.- indesign will crash?-remove the text frame from the first file and place some other non-text frames and all will export fine.Using previous version of Indesign 18.1, all works fine.Tried this on other Mac with same versions of Indesign and macOS, but with silicon processor and there, some documents will crash, others not…

Hola tengo que hacer 2 archivos indesign que son interactivos. El archivo uno, (que sería el principal), tiene un botón que dirige al archivo dos, este último tiene un botón que debe dirigirse nuevamente al archivo principal, pero a un ancla específica que esta en una página "x" de este archivo.No se de que manera poder vincular el botón del archivo dos para que valla al otro a un ancla específica. Es más no se si se puede lograr. Alguien me podría ayudar. Muchas gracias.

I am working on 2 older Indd documents here.  The documents are in 2 different languages.  However, the 2 documents link to the same PDF which is unreadable because texts are overlapping.  But when linked in the indesign file, the texts from the same unreadable PDF are showing correctly in the correct language.  How is this possible?  In attach I dropped some printscreens.  I haven't got a clue on how this is possible...Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I need to create 2 interactive InDesign files. The first file (which will be the main one) has a button that directs to the second file. The latter has a button that needs to direct back to the main file, but to a specific anchor on a particular page of this file.I don’t know how to link the button in the second file to go to a specific anchor point in the other file. In fact, I’m not sure if it’s even possible. Can someone help me? Thank you very much.

It gives an error when exporting a book to electronic format. Epub.Fonts: 16 missing - all last installed.I see them in the program in the file and in other programs. But when exporting, it shows an error of lack of fonts.Can you please tell me what can be done?

Another day, another Adobe Creative Cloud bug. This time, it's the recurring lack of font activation in InDesign - that I have not found a solution to in the 5+ years I've had the issue. It's not limited to Indesign but across the whole suite that I use - Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects. I've trawled forums with no helpful results. I have:- Deactivated fonts, and reactivated them.- Signed out and then into Adobe Cloud.- Reset InDesign.- Rerstarted my Mac.- Torn hair out in utter frustration.I'm using Indesign version 19.4, Creative Cloud version 6.3.0.207 on Macbook Pro, M2 Max, 96bg Ram, OS 14.5.

Hi all, I am working on an Indesign file in which I want to use non-breaking en dashes. I have tried to use the 'No break' option under 'Basic character formats', but this is not working for me with en dashes. For other punctuation marks, such as periods and slashes, it works perfectly fine. Is there another way to approach this issue?

Moin, ich hab das Problem, dass inDesign nicht normal starten möchte. Das Programm öffnet sich oben nur mit der Leiste, aber "ohne Inhalt" (s. Screesnhot). Geschlossen kann es nur über den Task-Manager, dort hat der Prozess den Status "Keine Rückmeldung".  Ich habe probiert: -deinstallieren und neu installieren- ältere Versionen  installieren-Adobe Clean up tool und neu Installation Das einzige was hilft ist, dass Programm als Administrator ausführen (keine anwendbare Lösung) oder im Windows 8 Kompatibilitätsmodus, da weiß ich aber noch nicht ob es Funktionseinschränkungen gibt, das empfinde ich aber auch nicht als Lösung für das Problem. Spezifikationen des PCs erfüllen die Mindestanforderungen. Habt ihr ne Idee?

A colleague is using InDesign 2024 with MacOS Ventura and has set up an InDesign paragraph style sheet with text aligned left and no justification. When they reopen the file after someone else has edited the file, single word justify is automatically applied to the style sheet without them making the change themselves.This is causing a reflow of text, bad word spacing and kerning!Their only option is to go back in and change stylesheet manually to arrange left. Is this a glitch that needs fixing?

hello all,since there seem to be no activity in this old thread, i'll start a new one, concerning Tibetan fonts in Indesign CC2019. wrongly stacked characters, missing letters by showing squares; with World-Ready-Composer on, these problems still occurs. i'm copy + pasting from a PDF (where it shows correctly stacked and complete Tibetan text without a problem). working on a MacBook Pro, macOS Mojave, version 10.14, all of these fonts are not working correctly: i tried all kind of work-arounds, like installing older versions of Indesign 2014, installing Hebrew or Arabic versions of InDesign CC, etc. no result unfortunately.am i the only one? i find it hard to believe a huge market leader like Adobe don't seem to arrange a way to set Tibetan fonts... i really hope someone can support in this problem. kind regards,Jampa Tsomo

I want my chapter headings to start on a new page and begin four lines down from the top of the text frame. I know how to use “Keep options” and “Start paragraph on next page”, but I read in the InDesign guide that “If a paragraph begins at the top of a column or frame, InDesign does not honor the Space Before value.” It continues: “In such a case, you can increase the leading of the first line of the paragraph or increase the top inset of the text frame in InDesign.” I don’t understand what this means, it doesn’t seem to work for me. I should add that I want to be able to activate this in a paragraph style, not just on a specific page.Grateful for any help.

So I am trying to create a running header for my document. I initially set up my document to have 'primary text frame' option enabled, as it's intended for a book.  The problem shows up when I want to create a running header by putting new text frame outside the margin (which is the primary text frame). That new frame cannot contain any text. Then, I noticed that the text only shows up when I move the new frame inside the margin. So in other words, the text can only 'live' inside the margin. I tried creating new documents, with 'primary text frame' disabled, and I can do what I want just fine. Text can show up outside the margin in a text frame. However, I want to keep 'primary text frame' enabled so I don't need to add new text frame for every new pages that I need. Any suggestions?

I found this great script by @rob day  in this group which returns font metrics data.I wish this could be included in InDesign's info panel by Adobe.  Currently the script gives output in points. I have modified it to give data in MM also.Issue is that the output is not properly formatted. I have attached a screenshot. Is there a way to give proper formatting. I tried printf, sprintf, console.log but all these do not work in extendscript. I want the top headers to be in bold, left headers to be in bold. ":" should be aligned.
