This happens every single time... Why can't you open the document centered or place the document to the top left.Is there a setting to NOT have your document open WAY to the right everyone time you open one?

I updated indesign to the latest version and though i read it can open pdf & Illustrator files - It does not do it.PDF's and illustrtor are gryed out.Is this features available only in the US?It happened in earlyer versions of the app...Yigal

Hey all, I was in the middle of formatting a document and ran into an issue with the command + shift function. It acts like you're just clicking command and dragging. The bounding box gets bigger, but the image inside does not. I tried using com + shift + option to see if that function worked, and it doesn't either. What the heck happened?? I tried quitting and reopening, the shift+cont+opt+command when opening trick, the resetting default settings in the general preferences—nothing. Just a completely random event that started happening mid-edit.  Does anyone know what's happening and what I need to do? Delete the application entirely and redownload maybe? I read that didn't help other people years ago with similar issues... so I want to avoid that if possible if it's not going to work.

I have CC and my InDesign file size is big but not unusually so (25 MB) as it is about 80 pages of high-rez (linked) images. I am using PDF for print when exporting, something I have done many times before but suddenly, it is taking 30-40 minutes and the PDF file size 216 MB! The last similar project had more images and made a PDF that was about 50 MB. I have not changed any settings, that I am aware of. Anyone have any ideas for me? The PDF is so huge that it crashes before I can review the whole thing.Thanks!

Good morning, everyone. In the new InDesign update, I’ve found a few issues: 1) the panels for menus reduced to icons no longer open; 2) if I ungroup elements from a group, they get deselected. Do you know if these problems will be fixed with an update?

As far as I can see, you haven't been able to fix the problem yet.I managed to get InDesign working with a little trick. I renamed my files:gl_ES.dic; gl_ES.aff and hyph_gl_ES.dic aspt_BR.dic; pt_BR.aff and hyph_pt_BR.dicThen I replaced the original Adobe files located in the pt_BR (Brazilian Portuguese) folder with the renamed mine. I'm never going to edit texts in Brazilian Portuguese, so I won't have any difficulty. That way I don't have to change the Info.plist file either. For InDesign I'm working in Brazilian Portuguese, when in reality I'm doing it in Galician. Since I have the OS in Spanish, I tried changing the files "DisplayLanguageNames.es.txt" and "DisplayLanguageNames.es_ES.txt" by changing the string "$$$/Lilo/DisplayLanguageName/pt_BR=galego" but it still appears everywhere "Portuguese (Brazil)".Would there be a way to change this?

For digital illustrations with transparent backgrounds. Is it better to flatten with white backgrounds before coverting to grayscale and placing in InDesign or leaving the backgrounds transparent? Transparency is not needed in InDesign (no overlapping elements). And transparency is causing unexpected results converting to Black Ink CMYK profile. I was lead to believe that white rectangles could create artifacts during printing. Is that not true?

Hi all! I am working on a report for a magazine. And annoyingly, the name of the magazine is all lowercase, including the first letters of all the words in the name. I have text in tables. I'm trying to do a find/replace to make these letters all lowercase. And it works... except for the first letter (which is the first letter in each cell). I though GREP would take care of this, but it doesn't. I don't know why... maybe because it's in a table? Anyway, is there a way to force find/replace to make NOT capitalize the first letter? I would think it would just do what I typed, but no such luck. Interestingly, I am able to do this with no issues in Illustrator, although I'm not using tables in that file. Thanks. 

I have recently upgraded both macOS (26.1) and InDesign (2026). Something that has always worked before in InDesign — resizing an image proportionally by holding down Shift and dragging — no longer works. The image’s proportions are no longer locked. Is this an InDesign issue, or should I blame MacOS?

I don't understand why some of the bookmarks look like anchors in the bookmarks tab. What is the difference, and how do I get them to all be the same? It's a cookbook with a MAIN TOC and separate sections, each with it's own TOC. And when I export to a PDF some bookmarks work & some do not. 

Users have been experiencing an annoying lag with InDesign when they click out then back into the application. I have read on the forums that with Mac, magnet is the cause and quitting it gets rid of it. Unfortunately, we are on Windows 11 and Magnet is not a feature on Windows. I have reached out to Adobe numerous times and they suggest clearing the pasteboard, changing all the possible performance settings, and resetting the InDesign folder in local by changing it to "InDesign_Backup" and then opening InDesign so it creates a new folder which I want to emphasize WORKS for about 3-4 days until the lag comes back and starts to progressivley get worse. Adobe suggested it may be due to the files being saved on a network drive rather than local. So we tested that and of course it was like night and day and there was no lag, but that is expected as opening any file locally will be way faster, and that doesn't explain why resetting the InDesign folder fixes it temporarily.  W

This is a frustrating issue that keeps coming up between our print department and me, the designer. I am making this postcard that is 6x9 inches with a 0.125 bleed. We use two versions when we data merge the addresses on. One version is just the artwork front and back, when exported with bleed and crop marks, the dimensions are 6.583 x9.583 in because of the .083 offset that the crop marks add. The first issue that came up was that our printers didn't want the data merged file to have any printer marks on it, so I sent them the merged file at 6x9 inches, because it didn't have bleed or crop marks. This led to another problem where the printers said they could not merge the two files because they were now two different sizes. To solve this, I manually started changing the page size of the merge file to be the 6.583x9.583 dimensions so that I could export it without any print marks at the same size as the art file. This worked for a long time, but now they are telling me that they dont n

I work for a small marketing firm. We create posters on Indesign on our MACs both using OS 15. We have these tvs and digital displays that take USB sticks to display images. I understand that MACs create the underscore file that isn't real, but for some reason our regular jpg files do not show up on the screens either. This is an issue we have with multiple sticks (I've tried a range of sizes) and multiple types of TVs. I have ransacked the internet and am at a loss for how to fix this issue.  I have tried exporting at both lower and higher resolutions. The only common denominator is the Macs exporting the images. Has anyone experienced this issue and found a fix that works other than switching operating systems?

At our designstudio we are (forced to) using OneDrive as the cloud solution to store and maintain (mostly) InDesign files. Recently we had a project (an annual report) for a client wich has over 60 chapters/subchapters and a total of over 500 pages.So, previously (when we where working on a MS Fileserver) we decided to split it into several InDesign documents: every chapter (including a TOC) and subchapter as seperate InDesign files. This worked great, because several team-members could work on a single (sub)chapter of the entire document without interfering someone else.We collect all these seperate InDesign documents in a single InDesign book (a INDB file), create the separate TOC's and the general TOC wihout problems.But with OneDrive we are forced to generate the complete book locally on one of the designers' Mac. Why, because OneDrive can't cope with the fast opening/reindexing of files and pagenumbers etc. This usually results in InDesign files with the user name appendend to som

Plötzlich finde ich bei der eingeblendeten Werkzeugleiste die drei Punkte bzw. das kleine Dreieck nicht mehr zum Anzeigen der kompletten Werkzeuge. Kann mir bitte jemand weiterhelfen? Hello all, I am trying to export a file that has a couple of drop shadows in it. The drop shadows were created using the Stylize effect and Multiply option. I am exporting to PNG format at 300dpi without transparency. However, the objects in front of the drop shadows are becoming transparent, and only the drop shadow is showing in the PNG file. Here is what the file looks like in Illustrator: And this is what the file looks like when it is exported to PNG: Can anyone please provide a solution to this one? Thanks!Bron

Sometimes I need to add pdf files in Indesign. Since I have windows 11 have had troubles with importing the pdf file.  It stops loading midway and or the pages are empty. Plus have lost the page numbers in the parent pages.

I want to paste object group in text frame. but paste command is not active when i am paste in text frame. Please help me. 

Problem: I am unable to click and drag anything. This pertains to any box in ANY file in indesign. Only InDesign, I have tried this in photoshop as well just to make sure. What I have tried: (I am normally good at trouble shooting. This I cannot seem to figure out)Created a new shape, cannot move it.Added a new picture, cannot move it.I have even tried older indesign files.Tried a new computer mouseLayers / Images are not lockedDouble checked my version is 2024I tried 2025, then uninstalled 2025 to back to the older versionImages: I can not move a photo in the box as normal either I CAN:select the box (ANY box)make the size smaller or larger (by clicking on the white boxes and dragging)edit text with in the boxcopy paste and delete the boxMove the box using my arrow keys I attached a screen shot, although I am unsure it will help.
