Posting to the correct forum this time after going down a road searching for this in others... I'm seeing I'll need to build or hunt for files with Table Styles to be imported - are there no prebuilt table styles to start with that can be modified? Thus far the free template table styles seem to be built for much more 'minimist flash' than a more basic setup. Am I thinking it may be easier to do a high res, blown up screenshot from MS Word instead of trying to fuss with getting a table to be somewhat similar?
I have read all replies on this topic but one matter stays unaddressed. I have a massive archive of books of about 30 years. What will happen to text if type 1 fonts are replaced by openfonts. Will text reflow? Because it ill be a massive pain to check thousands of pages to see if text has reflown. I can imagine it will reflow because of added glyphs, changed kerning etc. Anyone any idea? Thanks in advance!
Hi everyone,I’m having a strange issue in my document. There’s a weird underline (on the 2nd line) and a strikethrough (on the 10th line) that I can’t get rid of (you can see below).I don’t think they’re part of the text or any character style, because:When I type new letters, the text flows normally, but the lines stay fixed in place. When I copy and paste the text into another text box, the lines disappear in the new one. When I change the color of the text, the lines remain gray. However:When I delete the text box and reflow the text into a new one, the lines appear again. So it doesn’t seem to be part of the text box either.I’m completely confused — does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Thanks in advance!
Hi,I'm relatively new here. I've been searching the discussions-section, but I can't seem to find if someone allready asked this question. For a client of mine I'm advising them on how to make an accessible pdf from InDesign. Most things seem to work out just fine, but I've got a rather strange thing happening in the paragraph styles. As you can see in the screen capture, they have made a paragraph style which has line under the paragraph, translation from Dutch screen capture to English: " + kleur lijn onder: Everyday Green + regel onder dikte: 0,25pt + verschuiving lijn onder: 9 px + lijn onder ingesprongen: 18 px + lijn onder rechts ingesprongen: -5 px" translates to: "+ color line below: Everyday Green + line below thickness: 0,25pt + line below offset: 9 px + line below indent: 18 px + line below right indent: -5 px". Normally these lines in a paragraph style wil automatically become Artefact and the text will be <P>, (because the export label for this paragraph style is
Danke!
Hi everyone,I'm running into a frustrating issue when trying to print directly from Adobe InDesign (v. 16.0-20.3) to our offset press via Presstek RIP. Every time I send a job to the press, the InDesign print dialog initiates the job, but then fails with a "Print Engine Error" message. Here’s a breakdown of the setup and what I’ve tried so far:Software: Adobe InDesign 16.0 (this has traditionally worked - anything newer gets the error every time)RIP software: Presstek RIPPress: Presstek DI pressConnection type: NetworkWhat I’ve tried:Restarted InDesign and the RIP softwareVerified printer presets and PPDs Has anyone experienced something similar—especially the Print Engine Error when going directly from InDesign to RIP for offset printing? I’m wondering if this is a compatibility issue, a bad PPD, or something deeper with how the RIP interprets InDesign’s print job.Any suggestions, troubleshooting tips, or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!
I am working on a macbook air with OS15.6, and Adobe InDesign 20.5 creative cloud. I made a book in ID a few years ago which has hundreds of photos. The files (ID and photos) were on a backup disk but I have since transferred all those to a new disk with a new name. Because of the new disk name, when I open the ID file, it doesn't find any of the photos and they all need to be relinked. The photos are all in the same folder structure as before. The only thing that has changed is the name of the harddrive disk they are held on. Is there a way to do a bulk relink of all these photos so I don't need to go one by one for hundreds of images?
Hi all! I create reports where I pick up comments/text from an Excel sheet and literally copy and paste it into my InDesign report. Normally there aren't that many, so my issue isn't an issue. But once in awhile, I get a long spreadsheet... so the table goes on for several pages. I've always create it in a clunky way... I have a template table that fills the page. I copy and paste into it. If it is too long for one page, I copy the table, paste it on to the next page... delete the rows I had on the previous page... and on and on. I've finally decided I need to figure out how to do this in a better way. IS there a way to have a table continue from one page to the next? And if so, how do I make that happen? Thanks so much.
Been using InDesign for years and the image scaling feature is something I rely on heavily, either choosing a percentage, or simply using the down arrow until the image fits where I need it to. Recently this has stopped functioning either correctly or at all, in several ways:(1) If I choose a percentage, eg 25% I get this message: "This value would cause one or more objects the leave the pasteboard." And nothing happens even if I try to proceed. Never had this happen before and I almost always use the small scale.(2) Since Plan A didnt work, the next step is to use the down arrow to scale it. But that doesn't work either, nothing happens. Nada. (3) Then if by some random chance the scaling option does work using the down arrow, the image scales down but disappears down the page as it does so. In the past the top left corner has always stayed "pinned" in position while the image is scaling down until I get the width needed. But now the image moves down or even off the page as it sc
I have tried just about everything to try to resolve this issue within my color settings on InDesign. Currently I have it set to North American General Purpose 2 (the same as all my colleagues have). However my blues are still showing up as dark purple. I have also tried the Emulate Adobe and Custom option in the Color Settings, with no luck. The weird part, is that this only happens on my monitors. When I drag the INDD file to my laptop, the colors are normal. When I export it to a PDF, the colors are normal. I currently have Dell Monitors, but even tried a Lenovo monitor (since my laptop is Lenovo) and that still didn't work. I also reset the color settings on my monitors and on my computer. And deleted and redownloaded INDD. Is there anything else I didn't do that you would suggest? It's driving me crazy. And it didn't use to be like this. It just turned purple one day out of no where. Monitor vs. Laptop
I'm finishing up a 15-indd-file book. It has lots of hyperlinks and cross-references. Some of them are not working because I entered them in the individual chapter files before incorporating the chapter files into the book. I know how to fix those, but I'm having one problem. 14 of the files are behaving just fine; it takes just a few seconds to redo the links. When I place the cursor where I need it in the 15th file, the mouse cursor simply disappears for 20-25 seconds in ID. If I move it outside the ID screen, it's visible and works fine. This is happening with only that file. I did try saving it as an indl and then recreating the indd file from that, but it did not solve the problem.I have done some internet research and made the recommended changes with respect to display settings and the like, but I see no improvement.Grateful for ideas.
Every time I turn a box into a check box using the Buttons and Forms panel, a giant check mark appears and takes up the entire screen. How do I fix this behavior?
Hi everyone, I'm having a problem with a PDF generated with Indd in interactive PDF mode. My client reopens this interactive PDF with Preview and changes the font layout and the character itself. Can you help me? Thanks.
Hi everyoneI hope someone can help me cos this is driving me nuts. I wanted to paste the same sized object in the same position wihin a frame. Is there a simple way to do this? I have about 90 pages with 2 frames per page so 180 frames that i need to populate (paste into) with PDF pages. The PDF pages size is A4 and the frame that I want to paste into is about 190mmW w x 220mmH Id like to paste a page per frame where the pasted item (object?) is 185mmW x 261mmH with the x and y being X 85 and Y -20. To date, I just do a big paste and manually position 90 objects (hence going nuts). I have tried to copy an object style and fiddled with the settings but am make a meal of it. Tony
Hi everyone, I need help. I created an interactive PDF in InDesign with various blank text modules that will then be filled out on the PDF itself. My problem is managing the fonts in the modules. Once filled out, I noticed that the text is too tall and too close to the module. My question is, how can I fully manage the fonts? Are line spacing and tracking editable? Thanks in advance.
Hi, I was told from adobe that I can't add a gradient swatch in Libraries. So does anyone know how to move the swatch between these programs? Thanks!
I was using InDesign at work with my laptop connected to my fancy new superwide monitor. Then I came home and tried to open the same files on my laptop without the superwide monitor. The workspace windows are apparently opening up offscreen where I can't see or grab them. I've tried changing the resolution, but can't go small enough to pull the windows into view. I've done a lot of searches on the topic but nothing seems to help or reset the windows and all the solutions provided are from at least a year ago. Any other suggestions? Hi all - hoping someone can help with this. I have many documents that I have made where I add frames and insert images, as one does. However, after saving and reopening, if I want to delete a picture but keep the frame, the frame disappears. It is still selectable, but it does not appear as normal with the x in the middle. This is incredibly frustrating as I cannot see where my frames are and cannot plan my document appropriately. Frame edges are set to "show", screen mode is set to normal, all objects are set to be printing. What is even more frustrating is that when I make a new frame, it does have the x in it. Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks!
Hey Adobe Stock, I so love the idea of browsing Adobe Stock for InDesign templates. Many of the templates are just beautiful. I imagine the great time savings I am about to enjoy. But then I begin to deal with paragraph and character styles in a state of confused overrides. Individual styles are defined in ways that they shouldn't. Layers are not employed in a consistent, usable way. Color-block frames are rotated 90 degrees for no reason. Parent pages disagree with document setups. Grid and guides need consistency. Frames don't cooperate with grids. A well-made template might also have notes that warn about the language the template was built in, the color model, the document preference settings, among other things. Two things are equally important in a template: The beautiful artistry of the layout and also the efficiency of the fundamental building blocks of long-document needs. Otherwise, it can lead a user to take longer to produce a finished piece. And
Scenario 1: When the cursor is in a cell, select the entire column of the table (excluding the table header and footer). Scenario 2: When text is selected within a cell, executing the script will select all cells in this column of the current frame (excluding the header and footer rows).@Robert at ID-TaskerLong time no see. Is there a way to bulk add a full font familiy instead of the tedium of searching and clicking through them via fonts.adobe.com? Is there a way to do this from within InDesign to avoid the tedium of being out of the app, clicking through a family font stack, then back again?
Is there an add-on that can help with just having tooltips appear when hovering over the item in InDesign? This is a basic on many software tools, it feels clunky to get started and going with InDesign.
Hello,I'm encountering some issue with InDesign while working in collaboration with my colleagues on OneDrive.Up until June 2025 everything worked fine. From July until now everytime I open an InDesign file all the links seems fine (green dot, no error) until I try to export a PDF. In that moment an error window appears and says that some files might be unavailable. Meanwhile in the link panel I cannot choose "Update all link" and neither the "update link in the same folder" option is available. This means that I have to re-link each image/file by hand.Someone might say I could be a slow connection issue but file transfer such as wetransfer is working just fine. I also tried to uninstall & reinstall both InDesign (20.5) and OneDrive. Nothing has changed.I can recognize the broken link on images because they appear like that in the preview mode(see screenhots). Thanks in advance!best - Andrea
