Some software actually validates inputs to help avoid issues. I guess Illustrator treats you as infallible and blindly accepts your inputs.

I did verify / reset all of the prefs folders as read/write. No change in performance. Where does IL store undo information? It seems that performance gets progressively as I work until I save. Then performance improves until I do more editing.

Alas, the relief didn't last. The lag returned, and requires patience to use the software. I also tried versions 23.0.1 and 23.0.2 without improvement. Has anyone else found a fix?

Did that just now - doesn't seem to make a difference. I had also updated Bridge CC this morning - I rolled that back before resetting Illustrator preferences. Still laggy.

Decent I7 machine, normally runs great. Latest ID and IL as of this date. Windows rollup ran last night, now IL is really laggy. ID seems fine. Thoughts?

Graphics from Illustrator seems to be sizing according to graphics content instead of artboard size. In Edit>Preferences>File handling, "Preserve image dimensions when relinking" is checked. But it is using content instead of artboard for the dimensions. How do I set it to look at artboard size? (there is artwork in multiple graphics that all need to display in the ID document at a particular size, so I need to scale them correctly.) Thanks!

One other thing I remember now - if only "display" as all caps, then if referenced in TOC or Xref, it will show as original case. Since I had used Ctrl-Shift-K to uppercase stuff for TOC inclusion, it must have been switching the text to uppercase. That means either the shortcut changed, or maybe I had assigned that as uppercase in my prev version of ID, and that assignment got lost in the upgrade. Oh, well - sorted now!

Until recently, I happily used Ctrl-Shift-K to uppercase text. Now, it was showing up as uppercase, but highlighted as an override. I see now that it was really "all caps" rather than "uppercase". I am quite unclear about the difference. I created a new shortcut set, and reassigned CTRL-Shift-K as 'uppercase', which works and does not show as an override. So, why would 'all caps' show as an override but not 'uppercase'?

Working in Win 7, using current Acrobat Pro DC. I converted a page to grayscale, and that worked fine. But I want to adjust some colors, in particular, text color. So - activate 'edit text and graphics', select the text, click the text color button. The dialog only shows RGB color - I don't see an option for grayscale. ??? ok, I can edit in Illustrator, I guess. But that's a kludge. Can I select/set a grayscale value within Acrobat?

While you can save the default view settings for a PDF, I don't know of a way to specify that kind of view with the particular split. That could be pretty cool for some things. You might ask in the scripting area, maybe the PDF can have a script to set the view?

I'm on Win 7, Acro Pro DC. No previous versions of Acrobat aside from Reader. I see the '2015' fixups it by going to Print Production > Preflight > Options > Manage Libraries... and I have "Acrobat Pro DC 2015 Profiles" Then, at the top of the Preflight window, is the button/dropdown that was showing "Essentials" - click, and select the '2015...' option Now, I see fixups for "Create PDF layers" - lots of options.

I think it depends a lot on the source. It almost/sometimes works better when converting a scanned/ocr doc, cause it can't trip over crappy PDF code in the process. Check the export options, some of those may help.

When pulling graphics from PDF: If you just open a PDF in Illustrator, you may have dozens of clipping boxes. It can be a real mess, because bits and pieces of graphic can be bound together in clipping boxes. But, aha - if you select your graphic in Acrobat, and right-click > edit in Illustrator, you get a much cleaner graphic. Save that from AI to disk as .ai files, and you have a minimum of cleanup to do. All this presumes, of course, that you have suitable versions of AI and Acrobat. fwiw Jay

ah - with so many comments, I can imagine how painful it must be. I think there's a forum or place to report issues and request features. You should report this as a problem. I don't deal with many PDF review/comments nowadays, but I should have complained a couple of years ago when I encountered it!

When doing comment/review with Acrobat, I saw really terrible performance at times. A fast machine with lots of RAM may help. But the versions of Acrobat I've used is not fast at this, and slows down even more with lots of comments or when you filter comments.

LOL! In truth, I rarely use these things - and most folks have better sense. All the comments regarding the editing PDF versus source are well founded - but in this case I have a few docs where the best source is PDF. And the layout and features are a bit much for the 'export to Word' feature, which can be really useful in some cases. Thanks for the invitation, I'll offer the feedback. And if I really must, I can back save and edit that page in my antique edition of Acro 8.

Can you print to PDF? Perhaps you have an alternate PDF generator you could print to? How many pages? Is each page actually an image, or do you mean that some are various kinds of graphics?

... NOT A ... TOOL. Yes, we know that. However, I an speaking of tools that were available in former versions of Acrobat. Either the tools have been removed, or they are not immediately obvious. In my ancient edition at home, Acrobat 8 3D, I can edit letter and word spacing. I'm pretty sure there is vertical offset from baseline within a string of text. I hope those abilities have not been removed from the product since then.

Where are the controls for editing baseline and such in DC Pro? I have some PDFs with shifts in character baseline mid-line. Also - can DC Pro still find/change fonts? Where are those controls? (I HATE the UI - Acrobat has moved stuff around over the years...) Thanks!

I don't see any overrides in the source file. Now, maybe I am doing this wrong? To duplicate a number of spreads, I moved them to a temp file, them moved them back to the source file. The temp/resource file is also part of the book. I synched EVERYTHING from source to temp, then from temp back to source. Then I moved the spreads I wanted to duplicate to the temp file. No overrides in the source, lots of overrides visible in the temp file. There must be properties of the file that aren't synced but affect content? yeah, I had overlooked the 'duplicate spread' feature. I'll use that now to copy these pages. But still, when I'm building a doc out of existing stuff - what the heck could cause those overrides?
