Why is the `bitdepth` reported in SmartPreRender 0 when the opacity is not %100 in the effect compositing options? does the compositing options effect the bit depth that is driving the effect? Are there any guarantees about the bitdepths of the layers being passed in during a smart render?

I developed an effect plugin using the AE SDK, and applied this effect to multiple layers within the same composition. After saving the project and closing AE, when I reopened it and opened the aforementioned project, I received the PF_Cmd_SEQUENCE_RESETUP event callback for multiple layers to which the effect plugin had been applied. However, only one of these layers received the PF_Cmd_UPDATE_PARAMS_UI callback. This resulted in an issue where the effect parameter UI for the other layers did not update. Since it was within the PF_Cmd_UPDATE_PARAMS_UI callback that I updated the effect parameter UI, could you please advise on how to address this situation?

Hello guys!I need your help beacuse I do not know how to handle what is happening to me.So basically I am compositing (in windows 11) some blender render in AE 23.6.9 build 2. Inside AE everything works but the problem is that the cliend asked for a .mov prores 4444 trillions of colors. So I export the file and watch it in VLC. So now the problems come: In my VLC the file looks good, as in AE, but on a colleague's VLC the file has large overexposed areas. After a little bit of research the problem is that my VLC has the video output module set to open gl video output for windows while my colleague's has the default setting (automatic).Another things is that if I export an mp4 instead of the prores, it looks ok on vlc with both settings (automatic and open gl) selected.If I watch the same prores file on mpc-hc player it is ok. So I've got a huge mess in my mind and I do not know how to proceed with the client... I assume he will watch it on vlc but it is only an assumption and of c

In the image below you'll see the audio "starts" or is most sginificant on the left. Is there a way to make it so that is actually the center of the wave? Thank you in advance!

Guten Tag ich habe eine Frage zu fallenden Blättern. Ich weiß, wie man in Particle World Schneeflocken fallen lässt, aber wie macht man das am besten mit verschiedenfarbigen Herbstblättern? In Particle World oder Particle Systems kann ich bei der Einstellung nur zwei Farben wählen. Ich habe aber in Illustrator eine Illustration mit 3 Farben vorbereitet, die ich gerne so verwenden möchte. Ich habe es so gemacht, dass ich 9 einzelne Herbstblätter genommen habe und diese mit Objekt auf Pfad in einer Sysiphusarbeit von Hand gemacht habe, weil ich sonst keine Lösung gefunden habe. Diese habe ich dann in eine Unterkomposition gepackt und mehrmals zwischenkopiert und verschoben. Bei der Rotation noch entsprechend eine Zufälligkeit eingebaut mittels Wiggle. Die Komposition wieder kopiert, nach hinten verschoben und das Herbstlaub und die Transparenz reduziert (für das Herbstlaub im Hintergrund). Das ist auch "okay", aber ich frage mich, ob es nicht einen professionelleren u

We have problem with render on MS Azure Virtual Machines (specificaly  F16s_v2). Most of the batch renders ends up with error message:aerender error: an existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. : unable to receive at line 502 I suspect that the error has something to do with checking licence.If I try render manually without ae_render_only_node file (and logged with my account) everything works well. 

Devastated in an understatement I knew the day would come, but didn't think it would come so soon. Is anyone else able to use it? Please let me know.

Hi, I am trying to Rotoscope first time on a 1 minute 30 seconds video.  Able to select the subject. But unable to move frame by frame to adjust the mask. It shows rotoscoping 1 of 3000+ items. Not sure why those many frames its propagating. Is there any minmum system requirement to run Rotoscoping smoothly. I have 1TB hard disk with 412GB free space.  I really need to use this Roto scoping. Hello,I've been struggling with this issue. Both AE and AI are using the same color profile : sRGB IEC61966-2.1 But displayed two different color despite being the same file? The color code in AISame file but the color code changed in AE.How can I fix this? Thank you so much

Hi,i already have my project build in my timeline in premiere pro, i just wanted to try to add some effects in AE. what is the best workflow and best pratices i should be doing?i tried to select a clip and right click on " replaced with aftereffect composition" after my edit i saved my work, and the next time load the project on permiere pro, the clip that replaced with AE is missing, shows the red Media offline message. i had tried a few time with the same result, my workflow must be incorrect, can someone point me to the right path? 

When I Import Premiere Pro files into After Effects everything seems correct at first. There's a folder for "Processed Clips" (my footage files.) A comp for the unedited clips, set up the way the were in the PP file, and a Comp for the edits I made in PP, all nicely layed out in their own layers, seemingly ready to edited further if needed. The problem is that AE doesn't use the "Processed Clips." in the second comp. All the edits in the second comp are using the first comp for all the media sources, making all the edited layers essentially worthless. It's very confusing. I've looked online trying to suss this problem, but nobody seems to be having this issue but me. Every tutorial I see shows that the comp with the edits are using the "Processed Clips," and not the other After Effects generated comp for all the clips/edits.  Comp GK_01: all my camera views layed out in PP and Imported into AE. I am trying to use iterate_generic to perform iteration.It seems to be working, but I have one question.As the name suggests, thread_indexL seems to represent the index of the thread. But what is i?When I try (thread_indexL == i) within iterate_generic, it is TRUE every time.When I use another iterate_generic within iterate_generic, it is TRUE every time.I want the thread number to start from zero, but is it possible that either thread_indexL or i will not do so?

Hello everyone!I'm working on the Post VFX of a movie, and I need to do compositions, tracking, etc... My software is After Effects.The files they gave me are:1) .BRAW 3840x2160 23.976fps2) .R3D 5184x4320 23.976fpsAs we can see, the R3D files are anamorphic and in Ae you have to do some tricks to be able to work with them correctly.My question is about TRACKING. Which one is recommended to use? Which one would be ideal for this project that is big? motion track? camera track? Mocha?... maybe it's my workstation, I don't know.I tried with camera track and error, I tried with mocha and it couldn't track a single frame, error. Now I'm using the MotionTrack classic and basic and it is achieving it but it takes too long to do it.Is there any error? Is there a solution? So I'm just learning how to use after effects and a lot of the tutorials have been fantastic and I've been able to get around pretty well.  When issue I have is that when I'm removing the background using the roto tool sometimes the green bar will dissipate from the beginning of the video as if I didn't do that part yet. Like it's following me through the video as I clean up each section, and then I have to go back do that part again.. First time I did it I dragged the slider all the way right after applying the initial roto brush, that covered the whole video, and then I was able to click through and see different frames that were missing proper background removal or were causing clipping. I was able to then find that part and fix it. Sometimes now when I'm working a lot of the time when I go back to fix it the green bar that shows that the roto brush has covered the entire area from beginning to end shrinks as if I didn't do a certain part or as if I'm messing som

Have a problem when open AE project with mp4 video - it shows with incorrect size (1088 x 1920 instead of 1080 x 1920). Also it looks 4 times smaller than it has to be and the rest of its area filled with strange line (on the screenshot). It happens on laptop Asus ROG Strix G18 laptop. On another Device where this AE project was created it shows fine.

I just updated my AE to the latest version and the tracking points on the 3D Camera tracker are not working with my footage. I can't interact with them. I have show layer controls turned on, the layer and effect selected and still no luck. I even tried re-analyzing it... 

Hi,I've recently updated After Effects to latest 2025 version, running on latest macOS.After the update I was having crash after crash. I tried everything from clearing cache, updating OS, running only AE open with my 32gb ram on M2 Max chip and 700+ gb of free space. But nothing helped.After some time I discovered that moving my project files from Dropbox it solved the issue.And nobody could say connection problem because I'm running on 1gbs fiber. Just letting anyone know who would might be having the same issue.

Help! My after effects 2024 and 2023 keeps crashing after I use magic bullet looks and hit the edit button. After the first crash it then crashes upon even trying to open the app. I've tried updating my nvidia driver and backrolling it. I've also tried updating and back rolling Magic Bullet versions. i'm on VVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU. I've tried Studio Drivers 546.01 and 537.42. What else could this be?

I want to render multiple composition in a single file but it has to render specific composition which will be controlled through JSON. This has to be done automatically through scripts without running it manually.

Hey, I was wondering whether you could tell me specifically what type of Mac is needed to run the new Advanced 3D renderer which was just released in AE 24.1? I have two machines: a Windows machine I do most of my work at and a MacBook which I mainly just use to test my AE scripts. On my Windows machine, the new Advanced 3D renderer works perfectly, however, on my MacBook it tells me that the Advanced 3D renderer is not available and I also cannot access it. Other than that, AE runs fine on my MacBook. It's a fairly old MacBook Pro from 2017 (macOS Monterey, 3.5GHz, 16GB Ram). Now, since the Advanced 3D renderer isn't working, I'm looking to buy a new MacBook. Can you let me know what exactly is needed to run the Advanced 3D renderer? I was looking at a MacBook Pro M1 from 2021 (8-core CPU, 16GB Ram). Certainly not the best specs but since I mainly just use it to test my AE scripts, so I don't need the best specs. However, at minimum it should run the Advanced
