Questions

As the subject line indicates, I'm trying to create a sine wave that will conform to an irregular shape and maintain a curved crest and trough. Also I don't want the lines of the wave to cross each other. I tried creating a wavy line (used the zig zag effect) and Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Top Object, but that created sharp points at the crest and trough and also crossed the line of the wave. I've drawn some amazing art to demonstrate what I'm trying to achieve. The picture uploaded in portrait and it's meant to be in landscape, but I'm sure you get the gist. I know that I can do this manually with the pen tool, but I'm hoping that there's a faster way as I'll be making the lines very dense. TIA.

Hello everyone,I want to create a script I map to Ctrl+E that would collapse selected layers if more than one layer is selected, otherwise do the regular Expand.Is it possible to know how many layers are highlighted in the Layers panel?

The object is not moving in Illustrator. I have tried every solution; nothing works except when reinstalling it. I have experienced it two or three times this week.Every time I have to go through reinstalling, that sucks. Does Anyone have any permanent solutions?That would be really great.

Hey everyone, I seriously need help because I’m absolutely desperate right now.All of my 2025 files that were saved in the cloud have completely vanished.They still show up in the “Recent” tab, but when I click on them, it says I don’t have permission to access the file — a file that I created.And the worst part: every time I click on one of these files, it disappears from the “Recent” list.I’m a designer and I have multiple ongoing work projects, all saved in the cloud.And everything is gone.When I open the Creative Cloud storage page, there is NOTHING there — only empty folders.But here’s the weird part: files created before 2025 show up normally.Everything from late December 2024 until today has completely disappeared.I’ve already contacted Adobe support and explained everything. Hello everyone,I'm experiencing a display issue when I launch Illustrator 2026 on my PC (not on a Mac). A strange window appears and I’m unable to create a new project. An error message shows up saying that an error has occurred.I’ve already restarted my computer and even uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator, but the problem persists.Has anyone else encountered this issue?JeremyT

Le problème c'est que ces "sous-calques" ne peuvent pas être transformés en calque (il faut les recréer manuellement).D'autres logiciels comme Inkskape ou Affinity Designer lisent correctement le même fichier SVG, donc sans le niveau "Calque 1" (voir copies d'écran).Le problème semble bel et bien venir d'Illustrator lui-même qui crée ce niveau Calque 1.Savez-vous comment le supprimer?MerciN. Oh. NOTHING is working. Using finger, not Apple Pencil. No tool makes any mark on the artboard. I just upgraded my subscription to Pro from desktop only. I restarted the app, no change. 

I'm not able to find much on google. I have an image with the settings below. As for file name and file locations, the file name is already saved and the file pathway is already established. If the script can just keep the same file name and location, that would be amazing.Thanks so much in advance! 

I keep the suffix box blank yet when I export a JPG with Export for Screens, Illustrator always adds the name of the artboard at the end of the file name. Everything is perfect besides this. I need to this to stop.If there's no way to do this natively, is there a script that can do this? I establish the file name and file location already when I initially save as ai. It's just the jpg part that I'm trying to iron out. Thanks in advance!These are my settings: 

I know that when making a brush swatch, one of the available colorization methods is "Tint" which then lets you use that brush and select and color for the stroke, and the brush will take on that color (see screenshot).  It's super useful so that I can easily recolor one pattern brush without having to make individual brush pattern swatches in different colors.  Can that be done with a pattern swatch?  For example, if I create a polka dot pattern swatch only one color (the cmyk color set to #000000 black as is required when making a tint brush) is there a way to change the pattern color settings so that i can select any swatch color and it creates the polka dot pattern in that color?

Hi folks -- I need to import a line graph from Excel (image A) into an existing Illustrator file (image B).  The new line graph will replace a line/curve in the existing Illustrator file (highlighted in yellow in image B) as shown in the image: I have tried multiple methods to import this data—including copying and pasting the graph into Illustrator and saving the data as a comma-delimited file to recreate the graph in Illustrator. After  much trial-and-error, I cannot get the results I want. I would like the new line graph to exist on its own layer and maintain the scale in the original Illustrator file. If anyone can point me to a solution or even a great online tutorial, I would appreciate it. Thank you!

Hi,When I copy and paste a photo into illustrator the colors in photo are completely washed out. I haven't made any changes to color settings and this just started happening in the last week. I unistalled and reinstalled the app and still the same thing. I attached a screenshot of the actual photo what it looks like in ai at left.  I messed with RGB/CMYK settings but nothing changed. Please help! Pia

There are NO files open in ANY program on my computer, and Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop are hogging ALL of my RAM. Since the last update, my computer has been glitchy, so I had a little check this morning and see THIS. We pay entirely too much for this subscription to have it bring our computers to a halt this way.

Hi! At some point in the past week, my Adobe 2025 was updated to 2026. However, now whenever I try to open Illustrator 2026, nothing will open or load. It turns into a white screen, and I end up having to quit the program. I can't open old or new files. I uninstalled and reinstalled it, but no luck. Does anyone know what I should do or who to contact?

My pc that has all of my CS3 apps is old and slow as molasses. I know it isn't supported and hasn't been for a while. I know there are updated versions. My programs work fine and I'd like to remain using them since a paid a few thousand for the whole package. Does anyone know a way to piggyback them to a new computer and bypass the whole "your apps are old- not supported" spiel? 

Well, I've been using Illustrator long enough to know that the answer is probably no. There are probably ways to write a script that keeps track of elements in a variable, but that's not the answer. that's why I'm also flagging it as a Feature request.It just accured to me that in software like blender, there's a difference between selected elements and "Active Element", which is the last-selected element. That allows operations to happen clearly between selected elements and the active element: e.g: booleans (pathfinder), style and material transfer...Currently, Illustrator sorts such operations by what's on top and what's at the bottom, which is not as intuitive. if I want to subtract shapes (A) from another shape B, it would be easier to select the shapes (A), then select the shape B last, and execute an operation. That's a lot more intuitive than having to sort shape B correctly, select all the elements, then choose the right operation (minus front/minus back...). If Illustrat

I am used to doubleklick on a color field that I created to change the color, if necessary. But now this works only once after restarting the computer. Then after doubleklicking a color field the usual editing menu opens and I am able to change the color values. But after this first color editing the double klick on any color field doesn't work anymore. What can I do to have the color fields editable more than just one time? Or could this be a bug? Hello, isn't there a way to save magic wand settings ? Every time I close illustrator I have to open the magic wand panel and change the settings. It requieres few clics only but it's still annoying.  It as been asked for years but it still doesn't seem to be possible in illustrator 2026. Thanks !

Hey everyone, hoping someone can help me out.I had ChatGPT write a JSX script for Illustrator that automatically creates a new swatch named CutContour using CMYK values (0, 100, 0, 0) and sets the swatch Color Type to Spot Color. The script runs fine, the swatch is created, and it applies correctly as a .25pt stroke with no fill.The only problem is that Illustrator keeps creating it as a Process Color, even though the JavaScript clearly defines it as a Spot Color.>> No matter what, the swatch still shows as Process Color in the Swatches panel. Hello, The only ways I can select the shape are for me to click on it on the Layers window, or clicking on its thin stroke, not by my clicking on the fill. It's really weird. Beyond that I can't drag any paths. This is really weird. I've closed and opened the document a few times, but it makes no difference. Is there a setting in the Preferences I that maybe unchecked, etc.? Matthew 

I have designed a bunch of nice brushes that simulate various types of pipes and cables.Most recently, I have been working with PVC pipes that have flared ends, so I had to create a new set of brushes that had flared ends. I got them all working fine and used the Brush Pallet to scale them to 20% and they still looked great. However, when I tried to make the fifth or so pipe flared on both ends, suddenly all of the newly defined brushes stopped working. As in the paths they were applied to disappeared. And by disappeared, I mean that the stroke shows up, the appearance panel doesn't show any change in opacity, the shape remains, but no stroke. And no brush-stroke either.  This shows the same path with different brushes applied. Notice the bottom three have disappeared.   This is the default brush at 100px x 100px  This is the default brush duplicated and applied with 20% scaling to preserve the shapes on the ends. This is the default brush duplicated with modifications made to accommod
