Hello, hope someone can help me.I have to "clean up" an old document that was converted many years ago from QuarkXpress to Indesign.Multiple people have worked in it, also through Incopy and also copy pasted from Word. I see some "hidden Characters" (in all kinds of colours, see attached files) I want to get rid off... what are these???Thanks, creative greet, Yvonne

Hello:How can I make an invisible table of content?

I would like to ask for advice regarding the phenomenon in which the thumbnail of the two images below appears broken. If you click the Query button and then click the mouse on the document or panel before all thumbnails are displayed, the thumbnail image will be broken. How to solve this? 

in the old indesign cs, footnotes normally stick to the bottom of the tex frame despite a text wrapped object around it. in the current indesign, footnotes are affected by text wraps. is there any setting to have the footnotes ignore any text wrap and remain at the bottom of the text box?

Hello friends    Iam trying to install ID 2025 but it's faild and display an error message that processor with advanced vector extensions 2 (avx2)    So anyone knows what I have to do to be able intasll this new version 

"Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents." I am getting this error on a file I am working on in InDesign. I was working without any issues yesterday, but today I am getting this error and I haven't been able to find a solution. Could you help me? (I'm using MAC.)  

Whether I hire a pro or do it myself, is the first step up to me or editors to create a list of tags?

I work in InDesign and it has always been fine. This week the company I work for (unknown to me until I tried to open a page) was forced to update to a new version. When I try to open a page, it says I need to update my version, but it won't let me do that because it's not "compatible". Neither will it let me convert the file. My laptop is less than two years old. Adobe tells me the new version won't work on Intel processors of 3rd generation or older, but my processor is Intel Pentium CPU 6405U @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz, which I read is 10th generation. Everything is up to date on my laptop (Windows 11) and I have 11.8GB of RAM available. What can I do to update to the new version of InDesign, PLEASE?!     <Title renamed by MOD>

 I have an issue with exporting: when I export a PDF file from InDesign and select the option to include the bleed area, I get two lines in the center of the file (see photo). These lines are the width of the bleed area, and part of the image from the other page is visible. I've exported documents countless times, and this issue has never occurred before. Now I can’t seem to make it go away. I need to include the bleed areas for printing, and I can’t remove the inner bleed areas because they are required to match the print specifications. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem so the two lines disappear? 

I have a book file that includes 5 documents with cross-references. I can set up the cross references in each individual file without issue, but once I try to export the complete book to PDF, I get an error message that I have invalid cross references. Sure enough, when I go back into an individual file, I'll have to re-link some of the cross references, only to have them break all over again upon the next export attempt.  I can't figure out what's going wrong, there doesn't appear to be much consistency in which references break each time either.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Why is it that you can’t just export a PDF for print in InDesign? Instead, when you try to export for print, it gives you a PostScript file. What if I just want a PDF to preview exactly how it will print, or to send to someone for review? It seems odd that this isn’t a straightforward option, especially when the alternative is manually arranging pages.And speaking of which, why does InDesign have to be so frustrating to use? Did anyone actually ask for AI features in InDesign, or were we just hoping for a more intuitive UI and better functionality? It feels like it’s become the design equivalent of Lightroom Classic—where old users resist change and end up stuck with a clunky, outdated interface.Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I just spent 20 minutes trying to tweak an HTML export page with some CSS, and finally realized the output wasn't reading any of my changes.    So I looked at the code... and found ID is placing the added CSS before the generated CSS file!   This has to be a new bug, or it would have been noted long ago, I think. I'm pretty sure I've done HTML CSS before with no problems..

So I am encountering an issue I have never seen, after using Data Merge for the past 3 years. I am trying to automate some of our design outputs by creating a script that allows a non-designer from our company to fill out information and then we can run the scripts and remove a lot of the tedious work and get us to a finished publication faster. My issue is when it merges. the pre-merge document does not have any XML tags associated with it, but after merging everything is automatically tagged. it is throwing the script off and I am unsure how it is getting auto-tagged. This is a new issue for me. Does anyone know why data merge might be doing this. I have tried googling and across different forums come up with nothing. Thanks 

This worked great for my first 2 photos. Now when I try to use it for a competely new photo, it keeps suggesting the two variations from the previous photos, but absolutely nothing for the new one. How can I clear them?

Hi,  In the past I've kept my work files in Dropbox. I'm now moving to a Synology NAS for security reasons.In the past the dropbox version history or Time Machine has saved my life (68pp magazine ID that corrupted  just before sending to print). Slightly concerned that if I'm no longer using Dropbox and Time Machine won't back up my shared NAS drive, I'll lose this capability.  Trying to work out if snapshots on Synology will do the job but it looks a but clunky. Are there any 3rd party backup apps that will do the job or anything else I can do to keep this capability? Thanks!     <Title renamed by MOD>

Hi Adobe community,   I am trying to create a 3-level, multi-level bulleted list for a template I am creating. I have experience creating a multi-level numbered list, but realize the same technique cannot be used for multi-level bulleted lists because you cannot create a custom list name and set the levels. To that end, I've resorted to creating individual styles for each bullet level, but I am getting tripped up on the before/after spacing.   Ideally, I would like each bullet level to have 0 space between bullets but 12 pt spacing at the very end before the next non-bullet style. However, if I the bullet 1 style to 0 pt spacing between paragraphs of same style but 12 pt otherwise, if I need to advance to bullet 2, it will place a space between the bullet 1 and bullet 2 lists.   I realize I may need to just create multiple styles with different spacing options so users can achieve what they need to depending on their needs. But before I do that, does anyone have any crea

I have used a licensed version of InDesign CS5.5 on several computers (consecutively) for about 14 years, with very few problems.  I have been using it on a Windows 10 PC for the past several years.  Today as I was working on a book the program froze; everything else on my PC was okay, but InDesign would not close properly & I could not save my files.  The only solution was to reboot the PC, but when I returned to InDesign I got a scary message saying my activation limit had been reached, and that I could not activate it on a new computer--and that it would stop working in two days (the really scary part).  But I was not trying to activate InDesign--simply open the program on my present computer, on which it has been running since 2021, and had been running moments before. When I tried to access 'Help' in CS5.5, I got the message 'Help content is not installed, or the installation has been damaged. Bom dia a Todos!A Fonte que estou a usar é a Inter - Fonte com variavéis, e mesmo a opção estável na vista outline/traço, mantêm as irregularidades no traçado da opção para Web - Quando falamos de Gráficas / Cortantes... Estas Fontes no Indesgin viram mesmo uma Dor de Cabeça - todos os cantos da fonte que tenham a opção variável, esse espaço irá aparecer como irregularidade (aberto/vazio) e quando a Solução ... Poderia passar pelo criar um Outline ... Pathfinder/ Add do Indesign - Este Achata/ Cria uma Forma Única, só que mantêm as Irregularidades como se um "Extrude - Adobe Illustrator", tivesse sido feito! Agora pergunto!? Se o Adobe Illustrator o PathFInder/ADD faz esta tarefa na Perfeição ... Porquê O Indesign, que é um Programa de Paginação/ Artes-Finais, Carece desta Opção numa Ferramenta que faz parte da Edição! A pretty vague title I know. Here are the details of what I want to achieve... I'm creating a catalogue for a book chain. I have the layout of the catalogue set up in InDesign including linked text boxes from page 1 to the end. I also have data for each book in an Excel spreadsheet (title, author, price, description). I would like to export those 4 fields from the Excel document, and then import them into ID, with each of the 4 fields appearing on their own line, and adopting the unique paragraph style (already set-up in the ID template) that each field requires. An example of the Excel data I want to export...TitleAuthorPriceDescriptionTITLE 1Author 1 $34.99Description will go hereTITLE 2Author 2 $9.99Description will go hereTITLE 3Author 3 $27.99Description will go here An example of how I want the data to look upon importing it into InDesign...As you can see, the title, author etc. has adopted the desired paragraph style after it has been imported.

Dear all, by any chnace is there a way to update the URL the QR is leading to POST IT HAS BEEN PRODUCED / PRINTED? Quickly re my case: we generated a QR code and the URL is wrong, but the materilas are printed so how can we link back to the correct URL without a re-print? THX 

When I am trying to hyperlink a sentence in a document to a bookmark anchor the option of the bookmark anchor doesn't appear. Also when I try and create a new anchor destination it says that the destination already exsist.  Does anyone have any ideas why, please?  

Hi, I'm creating a style with paragraph rules below every line. I would like to have the last line of the paragraph with no rule (an exception to the style) but I can't find how to do it, besides going one by one and unchecking the rule on that last paragraph by hand. Any idea how to make an exception to the style? I'm creating a template for a client and the more automated it is, the better.Thanks! 

I have been having an issue (seems to be semi-common) where InDesign crashes when I open Story Editor. It has been driving me nuts because since I have been using SE, I have found it unbelievably useful.  After having tried all the tricks I have seen online (reset preferences, reinstall ID, export to IDML, etc etc) I think I have stumbled on something interesting. I was looking in SE preferences and noticed the Enable Anti-Aliasing option.  It was checked by default.  I unchecked it, tried to open SE again and it opened!  This on a file that had previously been crashing.  I closed SE, went back and checked the option and tried to re-open SE and voila - it crashed. I have been able to repeat this several times now.  The caveat is that when anti-aliasing is unckecked the tect in SE looks ragged (which is to be expected), but I think that might be a decent lead as to what is going on. If anyone has been having this issue and wants to try delecting A

This script is meant to change in each paragraph, the characters after the "," to a smaller character style.It's not functioning as designed. Currently I can get it to count the characters but the "Start_changing" variable never changes from zero. Basically I have the possibility of 6 names in a list, all with alphabet soup after the comma and before the return.
