Hey all.  So, i've got a project where i'm creating a kind of mystical grimoire in ePub format that's meant to create a graphic novel feel with multimedia as part of Into the Mythica project (https://intothemythica.com)I'm just learning the in's and out's of inDesign and have for many years just sort of been approaching it in a kind of painterly way, but am starting to ground out into the formats.So.  I have a number of graphic novel sketches that i've made over time in various shapes & sizes, and i'm wanting to clarify if i'm on the right path with creating functional epubs.  Whereas the idea of them being flowable is nice, it seems to throw off the absolute positioning of the graphics so i've been heading in a more fixed position though i'm open to advice.I'm curious, are there any recommended sizes for the document that I should set as a standard for an ePub across my publishing? I'm using a particular image for a background that sets the visual tone for the conte

i have a csv file with about 30 lines each line has the name in one column, address in another column, boat name in another column I have an indesign label with 10 labels on a page. I want to use date merge to have each name, adrees, city, state, zip, boat name on each label for example: first 10 names, address, boat name on 1st page everytime on try to do it puts the same name on the 1st page puts 2nd name on 2 page and so on.. please help.....     <Title renamed by MOD>

I feel as if I'm missing something simple here, but — is there any way to have a paragraph, in a continuing flow, sit at the outside margin whether it falls on a left or right page? Without assigning different styles, using text boxes, or the like? A limited form of this can be done with the toward/away from spine justification setting, but it affects only justification and not overall paragraph position. I keep thinking of that, and float left/right in web code, but... it seems like there's a way to have a formatted paragraph hug the outer margin, automatically, and retain justification, spacing, rules/border, etc.   Am I missing something?

I watched an InDesignSecrets video on YouTube called "Zero-width space" : InDesign How-To: Use a Zero Width Space (Video Tutorial) I admit I was impressed by what the use of this character can do in terms of typography. I looked around for more information. I quickly landed on Wifipedia which was helpful. But then I landed on the "Unicode Standard"? Which I didn't know existed. I confess my ignorance in typgraphy. I have yet to experiment with a Zero-width space in an InDesign document -- I will. Since the use of this "character" is suported (see above video) makes me wonder : A) Will it have some kind of representation with Show Invisible Characcters?B) And it makes me wonder what are the other kinds of space characters that are out there?C) Whether they're all supported in InDesign?Hence the subject of my broader inquiry, how "complete" is InDesign support for Unicode? We have an 830-page InDesign file with images and hyperlinks (both internal and external) on every page. It is 360mb in size. It’s an e-guidebook which our little company has been building and selling for 12 years, updating it annually.   Our plan is to divide it into several ebooks of roughly equal size, but InDesign, I don't think, has any tools to automatically split files into smaller files with a few clicks. Apparently this can be achieved by running various scripts.   Perhaps I’m missing something, but would it not be just as easy, and maybe safer, to copy the original file sereral times, then in each one delete the unneeded parts? Of course, many of the internal links will no longer work, but that's an easy fix because each of the parts mosty functions autonomously. Thanks for your time.   <Title renamed by MOD>

Hi there brains trust. I need to data merge from an excel field which contains a paragraph, ie text with line breaks, into an inDesign text field. There are three lines in the excel cell but when I merge the dataq I can only see the first line. I have nearly 8,000 rows of data hence a manual fix is out of the question. Is there an option within InDesign that will make all the lines of the excell cell come into the text field as three lines? When I set a the language for my body text to Canadian English, I often end up with incorrect hyphenation. In the most recent example, "knickknacks" was hyphenated as "knickk-nacks". There have been other such instances, too. Why is this, and can it be corrected? When I switch to USA English, the hyphen is correct, but then of course the spell check will use the US dictionary.

Several weeks ago, my top ribbon changed.  all the things on the left are no on the right and the things on the right are now on the left and some things just plain aren't there anymore.  I have been working with it, figured I would get used to it, but it is slowing me down so much to have to LOOK for things that were there, (heck 1/2 of them I don't even know where to look, they were always on the ribbon).    Anyway, does anyone know if this part of an update or if there is a way to customize this so I can rearrange the items? Hi alle zusammen,ich versuche zurzeit ein Buch aus mehreren Kapiteln als PDF zu exportieren. Aber jedes mal, wenn die Ladezeit für den Export fertig ist, kommt die Meldung:    Und nachdem ich es bestätige, kommt die Meldung:    Die Seite 481 ist übrigens die letzte Seite im Buch.Ich habe inzwischen versucht es als Druck- als auch Interaktives PDF zu exportieren. In beiden Fällen kommen besagte Meldungen auf. Weiß jemand vielleicht eine Lösung?Grüße,Sahin 

Hello, I use Indesign 19.5 to create layouts and make assignments. Lately, I ve been losing important changes when I open layout after the edits been made by the editor. My layout files and assignments are stored on OneDrive. When editors make edits and changes, sometimes they are not reflect on my end when I open the layout. I either don't get the "Update links" box or, sometimes, I update assignments but the changes are not there. Incopy files are also don't reflect the changes when I open them. However, my collegues coul open this layout on their end and see all the changes.      <Title renamed by MOD>

When trying to change a font using the font pull down menu in InDesign, that menu does not display any fonts; instead, I get this fonts pop-up menu that just sits there and I can't move it or get rid of it. Any thoughts on how I can get rid of it and go back to changing my fonts from the pull down menu?

Just as the title says. When I "alt drag" on anyhting it now duplicates twice instead of once. Its infuriating. It's been happending for a couple weeks so I'm assuming its since the latest update (15.1.2). I've restarted InDesign, I've restarted my computer and I've uninstalled and re-installed InDesign numerous times.  Uninstalling and re-installing works very temporarally. But thats it. Right back to multiple duplicating soon after.  Has anyone else experienced this and have a fix?

I'm linking an excel sheet to a report that I'm working on on InDesign and everytime I update it the order of the columns change, like reading them in arabic. The text is readable, only issue is the shifting of the columns.   

HELP! I am having issues with playing an audio file on InDesign. It won't play throughout the whole indesign online link. The audio file is placed on the 2nd page (there are 41 pages). After turning to the next page, the audio file stops suddenly, even with 'Stop on page load' unticked. This should not be happening. I would like to have the audio file play as the viewer flicks through the InDesign online link. Can someone please advise 🙂

I'm compiling Financial statements and noticed that some cells place as "0" while others place correctly. I have 32 page document with a minumim of 2 images per page. I started playing with Gen AI, its so much fun. My placed images keep getting over written on various pages with images I've searched for. I cant figure out whats happening. Ive spent the better part of two hours looking for tutoitals. I'm sure its something easy im over looking. Please help  bk

Does anyone know how to find the beginning or end of a line in InDesign (NOT the beginning or end of a paragraph, and NOT a forced line break) and replace it with a forced line break or a paragraph break.Here's my situation:I have many, many irregular text frames with 5,000+ names in one long paragraph. The complete names are separated by bullets. The complete names are held together by nonbreaking spaces, and the bullets have spaces before them to that the lines can wrap.What I need to do is identify any bullet that comes at the beginning of a line (wrapped automatically) and replace that with a forced line break. I'd like to make a feature request.... the ability ot move or remove the home button! (probably ranked one of my top anoying features of Indesign) Currently, I open indesign, there is no home button. Normally, I'll open a document and save a new version.. I open document and click "file>Sav..."... The freakin "Home" button has just appeared where the "File" menu item was, and has closed and saved the document without warning! The "Home" button is not making anything easier... at the very least, have the "home" button visible at ALL times (Photoshop has it in a different menubar), instead of moving the position of main menu items... moving positions of main menu items on the fly, I would go so far as calling that a bug [smacks forehead]. It'd be an interesting statistic to know if anyone actually 'intentionally' uses the home button... of course, you'd have to filter out all home button clicks within the first second or so of opening a document 😉 

I'd need to replace all the "m2" in the document with the "m" followed by (the little) apex "2" (Unicode: 00B2). Can't use the glyphs tab because it's not a matter of replacing an existing glyph but to turn a text into another text that ALSO has an unicode character. Very few about this available online.... only me having this need? Workarounds? (p.s.: need to apply a "replace all" because it's a huge amount of pages. Thnx. 

Could anyone advise me why my text box has a double border? I have never seen this before.ThanksIan

Hi All,   I have a custom open type font and i wants to load this font when my custom plugin loaded so that it won't be available to other user when custom plugin is not there. Is there a way to Embed a font file as a resource in indesign sdk project so that font is available when plugin gets loaded. or some other alternate approach using native system api that I can use inside plugin code to load/unload it.   Regards, Alam     <Title renamed by MOD>

I have a document that has a paragraph style "Caption" that I use for Table titles. In the document, I have Table 1, Table 2, Table 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, and Table 23. I don't know why this paragraph is skipping numbers 3-13, and 18-20. If I open the Find window and start a search for paragraph type "Caption", starting at the beginning of the document, it goes to: <Find> -> goes to and selects text of Table 1 title <Find> -> goes to and selects text of Table 2 title <Finds #3-13> -> Table 2 title deselected but but navigation stays on the same page <Find #14> -> goes to and selects text of Table 14 title <Find #15> -> goes to and selects text of Table 15 title <Find #16> -> goes to and selects text of Table 16 title <Find #17> -> goes to and selects text of Table 17 title <Find #18-20> -> deselects Table 17 text and navigation stays on the same page <Find #22> - goes to and selects text of Table 22 tit

Working in InDesign, when I use the script to import multi-page PDF files, I create the new document at the PDF size. Once imported, I change the doc size to the print size. This would typically center the pages, with the new InDesign 2025, that is not happening. Is there a step I am missing?Otherwise, I have to manually center over 100 pages.
