I keep receiving this message when selecting Data Source in InDesign: "The data source cannot be opened. Confirm that the file exists and that you have rights to open it, then choose the Select Data Source command again." I saved my excel file as a .csv file. What else needs to be done or isn't being done right?

Hello,   I have a two-column text frame containing a paragraph that spans columns. Below that, within the same text frame, is a table that is single-column in terms of paragraph settings, so the rows go down the first column of the text frame and then continue on the second. But the right column of the table looks higher than the left column. This happens regardless of the space after the top paragraph, and it seems specific to tables; I can put single-column text under the spanned paragraph, and the columns line up just fine.   Am I missing something? How do I get the two text-frame columns of the table to start at the same height?     <Title renamed by MOD>

Dear Fellow Adobe Users,  I am working on a form that I am designing. I have created text fields on the form and I would like to format the way that the text a user enters into the form would appear. Specifically, I would like it to be RED in color instead of default black. I am at a loss as to how to do this. Your guidance would be greatfully apreaciated. Hello All, Currently I have a single version of my portfolio created in InDesign and published in the Online Dashboard. Since Indesign has ended its own analytics and now requires integration with Google analytics, I have gotten that all set up and it is working fine. My question is this: If I were to create several versions of my portfolio for pitching to different companies, how does that work with Google Analytics? Do I need a separate data stream for each, or should I use the same one for all of them? If I use the same one, will I be able to differenciate which portfolio version is being viewed? Thanks! InDesign Version 17.2.1M1 Ultra Mac StudiomacOS 12.3 I can preview and create documents as expected, but as soon as I add an image and try to preview or create a document, InDesign hangs and needs to be force quit. I'm using absolute paths with a colon as a seperator, e.g. Column name: @My50_2_imageData: Users:daz:Documents:MyProject:Images:my_photo1.jpg Same format I've always used, only now it's crashing

When opening Indesign files on a (smb) file share the files become or open write protected. The idlk file is generated in the directory and then disappears (closed).The only way to save the files is „save as...“ with a different file name. That's not acceptable if you work as a on large projects.We exprience the same behaviour on all Macs accessing files on a Windows share using smb for a long time. Files open write protected. There were several updates on Indesign and MacOS but the problem is still there.We checked all permissions etc. on the file server, user permissions etc. Everything is fine. Changed from afp to smb - no difference. Tried smb-share on different OS. All the same.I checked and tried everything I found on this problem but nothing solved the problem...Is there a solution in the meantime?

So now I have two versions of InDesign on my PC -- 2020 and 2021, or v151.2 and v16.0. Why didn't the older version just uninstall itself when the newer version arrived, or am I supposed to manually initiate that process.  Each time I open a previously created document, I have to be careful to either just use the newer version and continue with it for the future, or choose the older version of InDesign for older documents.  I am kind of reluctant to run the uninstall on the older version, for fear of bad things happening to my PC and workflow, especially the during the Pandemic, for which I would place blame for computer and Indesign uninstall woes for lack of any other explanation.  Thoughts or advice? Earnest

For years I have used Control-Shift-Alt-D to fit an object to a frame.A few days ago, InDesign started doing something bizarre when I tried to use this shortcut.Now, instead of doing what it is supposed to, it recreates the object in a new frame.Does anyone know why it is doing this and how to fix it?

InDesign Crashed whenever I click anything in the top ribbon(i.e. File, etc).TroubleShooting- Windows Updates- Dell Command Update- Updated GPU Driver through Dell and Nvidia- Tried the steps in the help article https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/crash-on-launch.html- Cleared InDesign preferences, problem persisted- Double check system requirements- Checked for InDesign Updates- No plugin Conflicts- No installed fonts (brand new install)- sfc /scannow didnt help- Checked File permissionsThe super werid thing is when my orginzations IT Desk remotes into the computer using BeyondTrust Remote Support Cleint, InDesign wont crash. The setting that seems to be causeing it was "Color Quality Optimized - Few colors". While on this setting while someone is remoted into my laptop it wont crash. What could cause a problem like this within only InDesign?

Hi, I have a Word doc that I imported into InDesign with a ton of images that are inline. They do not have object styles applied, but I would like to find them all and apply a paragraph style to them. Is there a way to do this either with the find/replace or a script? Hi, i have to change a lot of paragraph shades all day,  but it's not possible to assign this to a shortcut to fasten up workflow. There is no paragraph shading in the menu to select for the shortcut.

Hello!   After sudden crash of Indesign, the content on some pages is not showned properly or at all, though the content is there. When I switch the view to Overprint preview mode, the content is showned properly. The same happens (the content is ok) when I export the file into pdf.   It really is anoying as I need to work in normal view mode, not in Overprint preview mode.   Did anybody encountered same problem? Many problems with more than one display and m1 Macs with sleep, wake restart etc. where InDesign 18.1 'forgets' the second display so I have to rest my workspace again to show all panel. Is there a startup(!) script that can Reset (name of my workspac) Workspace at Startup of InDesign? Reset, not 'load'! (Using Dutch version!) Thanks in advance!

I've downloaded indesign onto a new laptop and display performance keeps defaulting back to typical. I have amended my preferences to select high quality as default view; view settings is also high quality; as are raster images, vector graphics and transparency. However, whenever I open any document, the default display is showing as typical.  Should I check or uncheck preserve object-level display settings, and enable anti-aliasing? I have tried both and neither seems to make any difference. Why is this happening and how can I fix it? TIA

The pink lines are guides, but what are the blue lines and how do I remove them? I've been through the entire View>Extras menu to no avail. They do not show in Preview mode, or in exported files. Thanks for your input!

Colleagues,    =Bottom Line= Our EN source has “Figure 1” and “Table 1” (etc.) as auto-numbered paragraph captions. In both SK and CZ the translation of “Figure” or “Table” is different in the caption than it is in the running text.    Example Caption: Obrázok 1.1 Running Text: obrázku 1.1   I cannot find any way of having a cross-reference pull in the auto-number from the caption paragraph style and either: 1) Change the translation as shown, or 2) pull in just the number and replace the text as show in the cross-reference format.    =Background= Paragraph Style–Numbering: Obrázok ^1.^5^t Cross-Reference: <paraNum /> Figure Caption: Obrázok 1.1   [redacted] Running text: [Redacted] obrázku 1.1.   Since InDesign doesn’t seem to have the FrameMaker-like “paraNumOnly” cross-reference building block, it pulls in the word + number.  InDesign also doesn’t seem to allow any auto-numbering of the caption sty

I am looking for a script that can identify two or more consecutive letters in full caps, and replace the full sequence/acronym with Opentype All Small Caps - e.g. FIFA, PA, USA. My usual font is Sabon LT Pro and I would like to be able to specify this or other fonts in the script. Can anyone advise?

Hello, we are 2 coworkers who are both using all of our files from the icloud. We both work in the office and at home, so there are 4 computers connected to icloud.   An example of an issue: Coworker A is working on a large indesign file in office, catalog with 50+ pages with lots of images/linked files.  He then will go home and work on that same file the next day.  It will open with 40 to 50 missing links.  Obviously frustrating but goes thru and relinks.  Coworker A comes back into the office the next day to work on same file, open it and 40 to 50 missing links.  This is very frustrating as most of the projects are large like this and makes working from home very difficult.   Coworker B will open the same file at home and in the office and will only be missing maybe 5 files.   Is there any way to limit the amount of linked images or to have none at all.  Were just confused since all the files are in the icloud.  No files are in diffe

The 'Edit Original' icon in the 'Links' window isn't available for said generative-expanded image. Is it possible to consolidate the AI edits and get the image to appear in my computer's drive, and open it in Photoshop, without hitting 'Package'? Thanks for your help.   <Title renamed by MOD>

Sometimes I find it a bit slow to switch to the aligned faceplate.This is because alignment faceplates are generally aligned to selections by default. It's a pain in the arse to change it.Quickly align margins, plate centre, bleed tool.Also wish adobe would add an align to reference line feature. 

Liebe Community,ich kann InDesign zur Zeit nicht öffnen.  Kurz sieht es so aus als würde es laden dann bricht es ab wie bei einem Absturz aber ohne Fehlermeldung. Alle anderen Programme lassen sich öffnen. Hat noch jemnad gerade Probleme damit?Liebe GrüßeKatja
