Questions

This is making me crazy.   It did it on the previous version as well.     I create a document, add mail merge fields then save and merge.  No problem.  The second time I open the document and mail merge, ID crashes.   I am using Win 11, ID 2024, Tab separated values in a .txt file.     I merge to a PDF file. Any suggestions?   I do a monthly newsletter and it drives me crazy that I have to recreate the basic template each time I want to merge. 

I'm getting a print job done in China. It's white on black on one side of a plastic bag. The other side (front) is white only on the clear plastic. If outputting as PDF what should I do so the printer doesn't just see a blank page? It's text and a vector logo. Should I export the whole file as EPS?   <Title renamed by MOD>

I'm selecting a text box in the Parent page view but the option is greyed out for some reason. What gives? This page parent is linked to several pages.InDesign version 19.5. Thanks

I'm trying to export a publication from InDesign with vertical A4 pages into a PDF file with facing pages. However, the output doesn't come out as A3 landscape with two adjacent pages; instead, it places the pages side-by-side on a vertical A4, cutting off half of each on the outside. How can I make the output consist of two whole A4 pages side-by-side on a horizontal A3 sheet?     <Title renamed by MOD>

InDesign has no way of artifacting leader dots. This can only be done in PDF. Leader dots are commonly used in tables of contents to guide the reader's eye from the end of the entry to the page number. Leader dots are voiced by access technologies such as screen readers and force users with disabilities to hear, "DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT DOT ..." If they are not artifacted. This is a painstaking process that requires InDesign users to learn PDF Remediation, a highly specialized skillset that is typically outside the role of the average Graphic Designer. Currently, the process for artifacting leader dots is to ind the first leader dot in the Tags tree. Right click on it and choose Show in Content Panel. Expand the content containers until you find the first set of leader dots. Right click on them and choose “Create Artifact.” Ignore the options panel and click “OK” to set the artifact. Repeat with all other leader dots.

I'm using Indesign because I own it on window 7.  I've been using this setup for years.  I'm working on a document that is several pages long and each page has 2 columns.  All through out the document I have photos that I've placed in the text area that has text in it..  Then I create a text box under the photo and type in the caption.  Most of the time this works perfectly, then I "group" the picture and the caption and finally set the text wrap and adjust the margins around the picture and caption.   However,  I have a picture that I've placed in a text area,  and created the text box for the caption.  When I start to type the caption into the text box, as soon as the text goes over the main text box for that column the text for the caption disappears.    If I move the grouped picture and caption off to the white board then the captions appear.   I've tried deleting the picture and caption, and replacing the picture and addi

Everytime I click the Hyperlinks panel InDesign crashes.I have tried resetting InDesign preferences, but no luck. I have a large document with many links I can no longer work on.Any help gratefully received.

Hi, I have finished an A5 booklet. My printer requests that I package everything from Indesign and they also want all images in CMYK. I have read several discussions and watched videos but still cannot find a way to do this. All my images are RGB. I know I can export a PDF and use this export to change the images but I have been unable to find anything similar in the package function that will also change the images. I get a warning triangle that the images are RGB but no way of changing them.I have spoken to my printer who suggested using assign profiles but this seems to do nothing. Any help with this appreciated. k

Could you help me?I have a problem with the concept of font bodies in parentheses... For a few versions, this problem has appeared. Has anyone already had this problem? Would you have a tip to disable this function whose use I do not understand?It is very disabling for me.Thank you very much for your help!

Ich arbeite mit InDesign problemlos auf meinem iMac.Auf dem Macbook stürzt ID nach dem Start sofort ab. Ich deinstalliere dann die ID-Version und installiere sie wieder neu. Recently, when I tried to export a .pdf from Indesign, the settings are not sticky anymore. I have presets set and it's defaulting to only exporting page 1. I have to click the dropdown, select "All Pages," and then select the All Pages button next to it for it to export a full document. I've even tried saving it as a new preset once this is all done and nothing. I've only noticed this because several clients have told me, "I'm only seeing page 1." 

My guides in InDesign are all a light cyan, which I find hard to see. How can I change the color of the guides? I'd like to apply the color to the guides whether they are selected or not.

I have created multiple IDs using Data Merge in InDesign. How can I export both the front and back pages into a single PDF for all IDs?   <Title renamed by MOD>

Hallo zusammen, ich habe folgendes Problem: ich möchte ein Fotobuch mit eingebundenen Videos als Publish Online ausgeben. Kurz bevor der Upload vollständig ist, bekomme ich die Fehlermeldung mit dem Problem #23, laut Adobe "Server vorübergehend nicht verfügbar. Versuchen Sie es später erneut".Ich habe es aber schon seit Tagen mehrfach erneut probiert und auch andere Fotobücher mit Videos in der Zwischenzeit erfolgreich für Publish Online freigegeben. Hilfe, wo liegt der Fehler??Das Dokument beinhaltet Grafiken, Text, jpg-Fotos und mp4-Videos. Der einzige Unterschied zu den anderen (erfolgreich freigegebenen) Fotobüchern liegt darin, dass die Videos mov- bzw. mts-Dateien waren, diese habe ich vorher online in mp4 umgewandelt.Wäre super, wenn jemand eine Lösung für mich hätte!VG, Simone

Wir arbeiten mit automatischen Updates von Adobe CC und nach dem letzten Update von Indesign ist keine Eingabe oder Aktivierung von Textumflüssen mehr möglich. Die Felder dazu werden einfach nicht mehr angezeigt, weder bei Bestandsdokumenten, noch bei neuen. Bestehender Textumfluss in Bestandsdokumenten funktioniert zwar, lässt sich aber nicht mehr bearbeiten. Hier werden nicht einmal mehr die aktuellen Werte angezeigt. Siehe Screenshots.Wer weiß Abhilfe, weil so ist ein effizientes Arbeiten derzeit unmöglich?GrüßeStephan

My group has been experiencing problems with how InDesign is handling fonts. We have been in the process of updating our company literature from a legacy unsupported font to the Open Sans variable font family. The problem we're having is that every instance of a typeface weight is appearing as its own line item in Find/Replace Font window. For instance, Open Sans - Regular is appearing 11 times.- If I select two text boxes that contain the same font weight, the Character panel appears blank as though it is selecting two different fonts, if I select each individually, it will show that the same font is loaded. There is only one instance of the font in the character font menu.- There are no stylesheets set, every instance points to the same file location in windows browser.- Selecting all and hitting Change All doesn't reduce the number shown.- Checking/Unchecking "Redefine Style When Changing All" doesn't have any effect either. - Preflight Panel shows no errors- I've attempted uninstal

Hi all,I'm posting this in the hopes it helps someone else out as I had this issue and it was sapping a lot of time. I had searched and couldn't find an answer to it, but have stumbled across the workaround... Problem: I have a book consisting of numerous files, with many cross references between them.I open a file, and try to make a change (bolding a word for example), and it takes ages to do it. The cursor flickers and it seems to be doing a repetetive task in the background. While it's doing this, I can't do anything else. I had suspected that it was resolving the cross references in the document everytime a change was made, and in some instances I had to wait minutes after every slight document change. In looking in the Windows folder where the files were kept, it was opening up locked temporary files in the background to help it resolve them. Solution: Open up every file in the book when working on the troublesome file. I created a package file with my indesign 2024, and all the sources were included properly in links folder. I double checked the new links and they were all updated properly. But I have a problem when I transfer the package file to my girlfriend who is using indesign 2023.   When she uses .indd to open it, the program says it will convert automatically for her version. In this case, all the links go missing. When she uses .idml to open it, it says there are 0 missing links and n* modified links and asks if I want to modify the links. Either way, the links are missing.   Do you guys know if it's a matter of version, and how I can fix the problem ? Thanks     <Title renamed by MOD>

We've produced a report with an interactive map using buttons for popup text windows that open and close. These open and close perfectly on the Publish Online version embedded on our web page and in the downloadable PDF (Chrome browser). However, some of the popups will not close in the PDF via Edge and Firefox. The popups are text boxes with a close button. Could this be a layering issue? Hey Adobe community,  With the analytics being discontinued for published documents via InDesign, we have been trying to integrate with our Google Analytics.  However, the Adobe support and instructions have been very vague and not detailed enough for us to troubleshoot an issue we are having.  We are not receiving any data to Google Analytics for our documemts that use the Google Analytics Measurement ID we are using for our published Indesign Documents.  We have added a measurement ID to several documents that we know are being opened and viewed. However, we cannot find any information about that data in Google Analytics. There is no clear instruction from Adobe detailing if the Measurement ID should come from our business website, or if we need to add a new data stream.  Can someone confirm if we need to add a new data stream that is related or from Adobe and use that Measurement ID instead of using our business website Measurement I

Hey guys,   I've got a problem with the buttons funcionality in my project and would like to share my idea behind this document and ask for help:   Navigation: On the left side you can find the navigation with 2 menu items, Purple and Orange. Category Menu: By clicking on one of the 2 menu items, it appears the specific category menu. Page: Every word of the specific category menu should lead to a specific page by clicking.   Problem: - Purple is currently working all the time, starting and after switching from Orange. - Orange only works, when I start there, but not after starting with Purple and then clicking on Orange.   It seems like Purple hides the buttons of Orange with an „invisible layer“.   Problem solution ways: - By putting Orange underneath Purple, everything works fine. But that's not the way how I would like to have it. - By putting Orange on a 2nd layer, Purple seems to have the same problem like I've written before.   Question: What can I
