Sometimes there are only two options for search scope: documents and all documents.You need to restart the Indesign software, everything is fine.However, sometimes it will appear repeatedly in a period of time

I cannot insert discretionary hyphens. When I type in the appropriate command or select it from the Type menu, nothing happens. The option appears grayed out. What is causing this?

Inherited an Indesign file and can't figure out how this text frame within text frame works. The boxes within have different tabs length on the top. Checked anchored objects and it doesn't seem to be it. Anyone with ideas? (Used filler text in e.g. screenshot for privacy here)

For some reason, I can't get the Table of Contents to keep the adjustments I make. I choose the headings, I assign a style to each, I choose OK and the TOC looks good. If I make an edit to one of the headings then select Update Table of Contents, it returns to the previous settings and I'm starting all over. In order to dial in my TOC, I must continually choose the Headings and Styles over and over until I get the TOC right. The Update feature is worthless at this point.  Am I missing something? I have updated to the most recent version. I've been working in InDesign for well over a decade, and this situation popped up out of nowhere in one of the recent releases.  Is there a new setting I need to adjust? Any help is appreciated. I hope there is someone who can help as this is driving me nuts. I am creating braiile signs that uses data merge to import text and images.  Importing etc is all OK. My issue is that i cant get the images to left align.  They only want to centre align.  I ahvbe tried creating. a text box and embedding the imnage in that and then align paragraph but the symbols sill centre align within the image boundaries.  The only one tht works correctly is whennI have 4 symbols and i suspect that it is conicindence and still centre justfied.

How can I change the language from English-UK to French for one Indesign document ? I do not want to change the default language of the application, since I am working simultaneously with the French and English versions of the same document.

Hi All,  I have a question about data import to InDesign project.Currently we have data on few excel files which are marge in one big excel sheet  (wich have a lot of formulas to marge data) and base on that we generate txt file to import it into InDesign project.Is there any easier option to import data to InDesign? Sorry for my unknowledge in InDesign but as data administrator we are looking for more simple solution, currently because of InDesign usage we have all data in excel sheet and I want to change it.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello there. I have a 20-page project, and I started with the primary text option ON so that I don't have to keep shifting the text back and forth every time.Here's what I need:I want one of the few pages to be unlinked from the primary text without changing / disturbing the layout of the other pages without disturbing any text/content. After working on those pages individually, I need to be able to restore the primary text to its original state, including any new changes made after unlinking.I hope I am able to articulate myself better.

If you use automatic numbering for your chapters (including multi-level), even though you have defined in export tagging and proper H levels in Style settings for HTML/EPUB, these are completely ignored.All headings are exported as <ol> <li> elements.If I convert automatic numbering into text, chapter headings are correctly exported according to their export settings as various H levels and proper semantics is preserved. According to HTML specification, lists can contain headings, so this seems to be bug. I don't think I will live long enough for this one to be fixed, so in the meantime, I would like to ask for some work-arounds. One is to convert all headings from automatic numbering to text, but this has to be done one-by-one in a backwards fasion. Are you aware of a script that could do this - just for a particular set of styles? - I don't want all lists in the document to be converted into text because of accessibility complaince - just the headings. Than

In InDesign, I have set the black text to be 100% black (C=0, M=0, Y=0, K=100). I make wine menus and I'm creating a template using GREP styles that will allow me to copy and paste a full menu from Excel into InDesign with character styles applied to all the right bits so they can be quickly personalised. I got it working perfectly on the prices, but on the wine descriptions which appear on the line after prices, I'm having no luck. Here's basically what it looks like for a single wine: Wine Name Here     £2.50     £5.50     £8.50     £20.00Wine description text here. I'm trying to make it locate the description line by having it first find a price (£\d+.\d+) followed by a carriage return (~b), then start applying the character style (\K) to any set of characters till the end of the paragraph (.+\r) I'm sure this should work, and it works just fine if I use this code in GREP find & replace instead, but it just won't apply it as a GREP style. How to search text in indd files, without opening it?  have atleast 50 files, & need to search words in the file, everytime I have to open all 50 indd files, and then using its find dialog box (search all documents) i get my work done. but opening 50 files every time is very much crazy. Do we have any solution for that?

It activates again InDesign.You have to push Alt+Tab+Tab Same thing happen if you close the window in the InDesign and want to go to Active folder by alt+tab it doesn't work. You have to push twise (Alt+Tab 2x) For lots of users will not found this as issue (they work always with mouse) -- however these slows down the work quite when you work with lot's of kayboard shortacts. I hope you could solve the issue. Primera vez publicando aquí.  Verán, creé un documento interactivo donde coloqué 3 botones en una imagen que, al clicar, aparece una ventana emergente con información, que a su vez tiene un botón con una "x" para cerrar esa misma ventana emergente. Cada "ventana emergente" la organicé en una capa diferente, por lo que tengo 3 capas que contienen la imagen/video emergente + el botón que cierra esa ventana.  El problema es que cuando tengo 2 capas activas (Screen_cityline y PopUpVideo), los botones de "cerrar" sirven perfectamente de ambas capas. Pero al activar la 3er capa (Laminados_cubierta) de mi última ventana emergente, tanto en el preview como en Publish Online sólo sirve el botón de "cerrar" de esa capa, y los de las otras capas ya no. Es decir, puedo abrir y cerrar "Laminados_cubierta" pero sólo puedo abrir y NO cerrar las otras 2 ventanas emergentes. Según yo, las acciones de los botones están correctamente desglosados, pero no sé c

I created a Burmese manual to be written with Burmese unicode enconding and found an error on the texts to be generated by Section Marker and Running Header features.<figure 1><figure 2>Problem is:In figure 1, the blue-colored box is the heading to be input directly and the red-colored box is the bookmark to be generated automatically by the Section Marker feature.  In figure 2, the red-colored box (upper one) is the heading to be generated automatically by the Running Header feature. The blue-colored box is correctly displayed but the red-colored boxes are represented INCORRECTLY. I tried to change a few of settings such as the fonts to fix it, but there was no change. Is this a bug of InDesign?

I have this problem since a few days: if I open a layout with a version of InDesign earlier than 2023 (I use 2020 and 2021 for some projects) I see that all the small caps put in previously are skipped.A white space appears instead of the word in small caps, I have to select and remove the small caps so that the word “reappears.”Has anyone had the same problem?

I am trying to create interactive checkboxes like "Yes" and "No" where if Yes is selected, No greys out as an option to be selected. Basically, I don't want someone to be able to checkmark both for any given question. Any help?

I am on a Mac running Ventura 13.2.1 and InDesign 18.2.1 and just began to receive this error when trying to package a document: This document contains links to files/URLs that are not accessible. lease check your network connectivity or the original source of content.I checked the privacy/security on my Mac and made sure all the Adobe products have access to files and folders.I made sure InDesign had all updates.Currently the CC Libraries do not load, I did what was suggested to no avail.I tried opening a prior file (from several months ago that had no issues) and get the exact same errors as I am getting on my new file that I am trying to package.

Here's my experience:I draw a line with the line tool, stroke it, and position it where I want it.  No prob.If I should need to adjust its length, I choose the appropriate end on the proxy to lock in the direction toward which it will adjust, and then adjust the length numerically in the length field, point by point, so I can get it exactly right.The stroke changes length just fine throughout the process, but it also simultaneously creeps upward and a little to the side, toward the anchored end. Basically, the line doesn't stay where I put it.I thought it might have something to do with the object scaling settings in the General tab of Preferences, but I'm not sure. I've attached a screen shot of my current and most common settings of this preference. I've noticed this behavior many, many times and usually just drag the line back to where it belongs and keep going with my work. But I thought maybe it was time to ask about this to find out if anyone else has had this experienc
