In the footnote settings, how do you know what the prefix is after the mapping font is changed?I want to replace the BQ90 font with "A-OTF Ryumin Pro" above. But after changing the font, I need to change the prefix. How do I know what the prefix BQ is to be replaced? For example, I want to replace the "bq90" font below with "A-OTF-LYUMIN Pro".What should "bq" replace?the file is here
A colleague is using InDesign 2024 with MacOS Ventura and has set up an InDesign paragraph style sheet with text aligned left and no justification. When they reopen the file after someone else has edited the file, single word justify is automatically applied to the style sheet without them making the change themselves. This is causing a reflow of text, bad word spacing and kerning!Their only option is to go back in and change stylesheet manually to arrange left. Is this a glitch that needs fixing?
hello all, since there seem to be no activity in this old thread, i'll start a new one, concerning Tibetan fonts in Indesign CC2019. wrongly stacked characters, missing letters by showing squares; with World-Ready-Composer on, these problems still occurs. i'm copy + pasting from a PDF (where it shows correctly stacked and complete Tibetan text without a problem). working on a MacBook Pro, macOS Mojave, version 10.14, all of these fonts are not working correctly: i tried all kind of work-arounds, like installing older versions of Indesign 2014, installing Hebrew or Arabic versions of InDesign CC, etc. no result unfortunately.am i the only one? i find it hard to believe a huge market leader like Adobe don't seem to arrange a way to set Tibetan fonts... i really hope someone can support in this problem. kind regards,Jampa Tsomo
I want my chapter headings to start on a new page and begin four lines down from the top of the text frame. I know how to use “Keep options” and “Start paragraph on next page”, but I read in the InDesign guide that “If a paragraph begins at the top of a column or frame, InDesign does not honor the Space Before value.” It continues: “In such a case, you can increase the leading of the first line of the paragraph or increase the top inset of the text frame in InDesign.” I don’t understand what this means, it doesn’t seem to work for me. I should add that I want to be able to activate this in a paragraph style, not just on a specific page.Grateful for any help.
So I am trying to create a running header for my document. I initially set up my document to have 'primary text frame' option enabled, as it's intended for a book. The problem shows up when I want to create a running header by putting new text frame outside the margin (which is the primary text frame). That new frame cannot contain any text. Then, I noticed that the text only shows up when I move the new frame inside the margin. So in other words, the text can only 'live' inside the margin. I tried creating new documents, with 'primary text frame' disabled, and I can do what I want just fine. Text can show up outside the margin in a text frame. However, I want to keep 'primary text frame' enabled so I don't need to add new text frame for every new pages that I need. Any suggestions?
I found this great script by @rob day in this group which returns font metrics data.I wish this could be included in InDesign's info panel by Adobe. Currently the script gives output in points. I have modified it to give data in MM also.Issue is that the output is not properly formatted. I have attached a screenshot. Is there a way to give proper formatting. I tried printf, sprintf, console.log but all these do not work in extendscript. I want the top headers to be in bold, left headers to be in bold. ":" should be aligned. The values of Points to be aligned so that it becomes easier to read. I have attached @rob day script here with modification.// the selected character var s = app.activeDocument.selection[0]; // the fixed decimal place var dn = 3; if (s.constructor.name == "Character") { var p = getFontMetric(s).pointSize; var bl = getFontMetric(s).baseline; var a = getFontMetric(s).ascent; var d = getFontMetric(s).des
Text in Indesign and Illustrator has a 'light shaddow' surrounding each character when printed from within the applications or when a pdf of the files is printed. It seems to be in the vertical aspect of the characters and not in the horizontal aspect. The same text printed in Pages or Word does not show this 'shaddow'.
I would like to open dcouments (newsletter content) that were originally created in QuarkExpress 2023 and convert them to InDesign files. I have all the native artwork (photos) so linking can happen. Is this possible or do I need to just start over with creating the newsletter in InDesign?
hello, I need a new Serial Key for my CS 5.5 standard. Yesterday I had to change my hard drive with all installed and working software into a new notebook, since the screen is broken. Now when I try to start Indesign or Acrobat it says this serial has been activated on 2 PCs already. Well since 2011 when I bought the software I had to swab PC once in a while however I always uninstalled any software. Nevertheless customer support says, CS5.5 is no longer supported. I have to ask for a serial key that has not been activated on two PCs. please send the working serial to: [email deleted by moderator]
Attempting to simply increase or decrease the line spacing in a paragraph of text. Clicking once to increase or decrease the line spacing in text panel does nothing; clicking multiple times eventually changes the line spacing in a paragraph. This behaviour is not consistent across other documents. The screen recording at the following link has been cropped to include the text paragraph and keep the top toolbar in view. https://streamable.com/gsh8tw Software used to capture the screen does not include the floating text panel and i do not know why. However the changing line spacing values are visible in the top toolbar and illustrate the discrepancy between the changing line spacing values and the fact that the text itself does not change as the line spacing is being increased or decreased.
Hello! Quick background: I have modified a script created by Kasyan (found here) that finds tags and replaces them with images. The main changes I made now have the script create an anchored text frame where the tag is found, find and insert the image file inline in the new text frame, and then grab the "Description" from the xmp link and insert it as text after the image. The problem: when I run the script it is only able to return the metadata for the last image that is tagged/created. The rest return the "Description not found in metadata" line I included in case the data was missing. All files have the necessary info, I can reorder the tags, and no matter what - the last tag in the document is the only one that returns any data from the image file. (Thought: the script does work bottom-up so this would be the first tag/image that the script encounters.) The code: below is the meat of the script where I made most of the changes. Most of t
Can I apply a script to multiple InDesign projects without waiting for the first one to finish and moving on to the second?"
My document uses Gill Sans (macOS standard font) for a section heading, which is (and must be) a normal paragraph. When I change this to the Cabin font (Google Fonts), suddenly my section head takes up extra vertical space, like this (left: Cabin 102pt, right: Gill Sans 102pt) The only thing I changed was the font. I dug into this and I found out that the Basic Text Frame Object uses the ascend of the font to calculate the position of the first line. Gill Sans apparently has an ascent height that is identical to the cap height. Cabin, apparently, produces a weird ascent height value for the font. If I do the same trick in Textedit or Word, no such large white space happens at the top, which suggests InDesign is using a wrong (in this case even crazy) value for the ascend. Or maybe there is a bug in the font (but then, I have to say, this is a bug in many fonts because many fonts behave like this in InDesign). I am wondering how to handle this. Using Cap height minus a fixed a
I refreshed things with my Children's Book, and re-uploaded into Ingramspark. But I'm getting these two messages: The INTERIOR file cannot be used because the number of pages falls outside the range: 18 - 900Simplex covers require a 1 page fileI won't be able to hear back from Ingram about this till several days from now, or longer. But is there something in my InDesign file I need to do, with the interor file and cover file? I've never had this trouble before with my previous draft.
Hi all, Long-time member, first-time contribution or question. I was wondering if there is a standard formatting structure or order when creating a book or publication. A TOC must go before a foreword etc. I am comfortable making publications but now I have made a few I thought I better ensure I am getting the order correct. Please enlighten me. Thank you.
There is a shared Indesign document that works for two people, but not the third. All have different computers. The person having problems has tried exporting the document to IDML, uninstalling and reinstalling InDesign. They even contacted IT who couldn't figure the issue out and did all sorts of updates to the computer itself. The full error message is attached. Most of the error message is below. I had the full error message below but when I went to post it, I got a message "Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body." Wasn't sure if what was taken out would explain everything. Crash report: https://pastebin.com/J4SCjTPt {Post moved to InDesign Community by MOD}
I want to make the UI interface font of Indesign a little larger, and the two options given by the system are not very satisfied. Is there any other way to change the size of the UI font?I remember,In the CS6 version, someone modified a file that could become a large font after replacement. The CC 2024 has two UI interface scaling options. The larger ones are not good -looking, and the small ones are too small. If it can be one -third larger than the small one, it must look good. The picture below seems to be amplified, The original interface is not so clear.
I've got a document (musical score again) with page size 9x12 inches. One orchestra would like the PDFs to be 10x13 inches. I could use Preview to manually rescale the PDFs or one utility that rescales PDFs but let's say I do not know about this and would like to do this within InDesign. I have read the InDesign Help chapter for Alternate Layout and created a new layout in 10x13 inches. Things look well apart from the fact that it now seems as if I had a single document made up of the two layouts flowing one after the other. In fact, when I export this to PDF, I have the 9x12 version followed by the 10x13 one in the same document. In the Export PDF dialogue, I did not find any way to export just the 10x13 layout. Am I missing something really basic? Or how should one achieve this according to the InDesign gospel?! Thank you!
Hello! I have a 300 page textbook document with English and Spanish languages. The text was copied from an online souce and pasted into the document. The Spanish language text having guillemets around dialogue. After a recent edit, I am now noticing that all guillemets have disappeared. :0There were over 700+ instances so I know this wasn’t a manual adjust and I don’t recall doing find/change edit. Any ideas what could have happened to make all these disappear? Could something have turned off/on to hide and or eliminate these quotes? Is there any chance of getting them back or would I have to go back and manually replace them? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I want to apply this option to tables that contain many cells via script. Can you give me an idea for the script?"
Hi! InDesign newbie here. I have been tasked with trying to create an index for a book with 7 seperate files. I have all files loaded into one book file, and the index works pretty good for the most part. However, I have figured out that for some reason, it's not picking up all the entries. For example: this is a book with around 150 names of people in it. I have set the index up for each person's name...but after doing a spot check, I notice it's only showing some of the pages where these names are, not all of them. Like...Joe Smith I know is on at least 10 pages, but the index is only showing he's on 3. Any ideas of what might be wrong? Or do I have something set up wrong in the files I wonder? I'm so frustrated!
Hi, I was working on a 100 page document today and just finished one round of changes when Indesign crashed. I lost almost 2 hours worth of work. When I re-opened Indesign there was no recovery document offered.I am on a 2023 Macbook pro and am using Indesign v19.4.Please help!
I activated a family of Adobe Fonts, but they will not auto-activate in my InDesign project. "Auto-Active Adobe Fonts" is checked in the File Handling menu.
At the end of April the Share for Review feature in InDesign stopped working. It allows us to create a public or private URL but neither work. When you click the URL it redirects to assets.adobe.com/cloud-documents and we can't get to the review link. The URL works when we're not on our corporate network. Whitelist of domains maybe? Anyone else run into this? Thanks!
