Questions

Our product requires that our online help can be kicked off when the user enters a search term into the search box integrated into the product itself. This action should launch the help package, displaying the search results (the same as if the search string had been entered into the help package's search box). We were able to do this with webhelp but now want to move to HTML5 help. Can anyone suggest how we go about passing the inputted search parameters into HTML5, please?CheersNeil Williamson

Hi guys,I would like to open a chm file in a separate window from another chm file. Both the chm files are in the same folder. Suppose one of my chm named XYZ.chm and another one is ABC.chm.Now, in my ABC.chm, I want to provide a link to open the XYZ.chm in a separate window. I tried these solutions:<a href="XYZ.chm">XYZ</a>.This does not open up anything.Then, I tried to provide link to a default topic name or home page topic in the XYZ.chm like this:<a href="XYZ.chm::/Welcome_to_Adobe.htm">XYZ</a>.This opens up a that particular topic "Welcome to Adobe" and that too in the same window of the ABC.chm.Then, I tried to provide a relative path but that too did not work.Then, I tried a local path. That did work but its not useful because it can always change.So, I am looking for a solution which is independent of the local path. Maybe, through a javascript or something if it is possible.Please help. Thanks in advance.- Jignesh

If I try to use the new "Indigo" layout in RH 2017 with a project that has merged child projects, the TOC works in one direction only.By this I mean I can use the TOC to navigate to topics in the child projects, but if I move to another page using a browse list, or by searching for another topic and selecting that from the search results, the TOC does not update properly to show the current page selection. If I switch the master project back to the older "Charcoal_Grey" layout, the TOC behaves as it should.You can re-create this by creating two empty clean projects and linking these to a new master project. The TOC works in both directions on topics inside the project that you're in, but it does not work in the reverse direction for topics in a child project when viewed from the master project. Switching to "Charcoal_Grey" resolves the problem.Although I can continue to use the "Charcoal_Grey" layout, I do like the new Indigo design and would prefer to adopt it throughout our systems,

Hi,In Robohelp 2017, when I edit any aspect of the layout.css file for a custom screen layout based on Indigo, the preview for a Topic view no longer displays the body content correctly, shifting topic content and the sidebar to the left and reducing the overall height of the both body components to perhaps 100 px (as in, I am no longer able to access the sidebar navigation menu and topic content features both a horizontal and vertical scroll bar). However, I am able to edit the theme-1.css without any Topic preview issues. I'll note that I have not modified the height specifications in the layout.css; instead, I attempted to mod a font size for the title-text from 1.4em to 1.6em. In addition, it doesn't seem to matter what edits I make. For example, if I want to specify a border radius or border, the same issue occurs.As such, I'm hoping someone can advise whether the preview issue is a bug with the preview, a bug with editing the layout.css, or a issue with my system (I'm using Windo

Good Morning,I was wondering if anyone has ran across this strange issue:1. Using Adobe RoboHelp 2015, we have a couple of manuals that are posted with the Flash Player output.2. Users are using IE 11 - most of the time, the main frame will display, but the table of contents shows up blank.3. Verified that all Adobe Flash Player is up to date, made sure that IE 11 is up to date, etc.The table of contents for these manuals (both published via flash player) does not display most of the time with IE 11. Anyone else ran into this? Basic trouble-shooting steps like clearing Internet Explorer history, resetting to default settings, etc. have been done.

Can an application call online help from the cloud regardless of its deployment (cloud, local, client/server, SaaS)?RoboHelp is our HAT.  Some of our apps are moving to the cloud; some legacy apps will install locally, some are SaaS.    Where do I find more information about this topic.  Searching the forums and general queries on the Internet do not return answers.  Thanks for your help!

Hi,I see this issue has cropped up a couple of times over the years. None of the solutions I could find there seems to apply here.When publishing a particular WebHelp project, we are getting a bunch of errors like this:The publishing seems to complete normally, and we haven't found anything wrong with it yet. But it's only this project (so far) and it does it no matter whose machine is publishing it. There seems to be something messed up about the project itself, but "can not resolve macro" is too subtle an error message to help me troubleshoot.Does anyone have any ideas?Thanks!

I am attempting to view a topic formatted in a tablet layout.I am in the SAMPLE project for EmployeeCare3.I perform the following steps:(1) In the TOC pod, I select the topic from the TOC setup.(2) With that topic selected, I right-click the Mutliscreen HTML 5 option in Outputs (SSL) pod.(3) I select View with Screen Profile > (select a screen profile)Note: I have tried this will all screen profiles defined for this project(4) I get the following script error:Line: 155Char: 3Unable to get property 'makeFullUrl' or underfined or null reference, and it is in file loadcsh.js.I opened that javascript file and the following lines are producing the error:function showTopicWindow(oWnd, bNewWindow){  if (gTopicURL) {  var strOpt = getBrowserOptionString(oWnd);  var sNewName = oWnd ? convertWindowName(oWnd.sName) : window.name;  var fullUrl = rh._.makeFullUrl(gTopicURL);(I did not copy the remaining code as this is where the error halts the processing)I have NOT modified

Hi. I'm outputting a topic with 2 images in it, side by side, centred. Looks great on desktop and tablet but when switching to mobile view one image moves down, underneath the first.Is it possible to have an image hide/disappear when the view shrinks to mobile size?My knowledge of responsive HTML is very limited. Is this a setting that can be changed in Robohelp? Is it some HTML code I can add? Or is it just not possible?Thanks

Hello,My styles do not correctly map from the online to print (pdf) version. I used Arial font for my online help but get some randomly applied Garamond in the PDF version. I have checked all of my styles/settings and can't seem to figure out why this is happening.

I have a couple questions about the tocx javascript files that are part of the whxdata folder in Responsive HTML5 output. Are those the files that represent each entry in a table of contents (pages and books)? Is there a way to tell which entry belongs to which page or book? The files are appended with numbers such as toc1, toc79, and toc100. I want to look at the script for some table of contents entries that are hyperlinks to video but don't know where to begin in determining which output file syncs up to a particular toc entry.

I have a long description here describing my scenario, followed by my question. This relates to types of hyperlinks that can or can't be built in a help topic or table of content within the RoboHelp interface.First some info about our product and help buttons in it. Our product is web based product. I have setup a Responsive HTML 5 help output that provides help content for our product and it resides on our company web server. URL's in the product for various help buttons are constructed behind the scenes from a string of variables including the version number of product, customer ID associated with the product, and a unique RDI associated with a help topic. The RDI is associated with a help topic's URL. Our developers set up the product code that constructs the URL's and I set up the RDI and RDI link for each help topic that has a help button in the product. A redirect database is used by me for my part of the URL and help configuration. For example, I setup an rdi value of ourhelpsys

I'm getting an ImageSize.Width error when checking in to source control. Although I can check in the files using source control, I want to be able to check in using RoboHelp.Does anyone know how to correct this error?Value of '272' is not valid for 'ImageSize.Width'. Fellow Forum Foragers,I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem or knows of a solution.  When I have the TOC pod open and I right-click on a TOC book or page, Robo shuts down and gives me the standard "send error report to Bill" message.  I am apparently trying to do something that I'm not supposed to do, and i usually do it when I am humming along on other work.  Obviously the big headache hear is the loss of any unsaved work when Robo goes to lunch like this.  Any suggestions?~Dave

Hello,My responsive HTML5 output has none of the following issues when viewed either from my hard drive or from our company's network drive.After our IT person pushed the file to our server on Edge, however, I saw the following issues when viewing the Help site from Edge:Some TOC entries were missing, but their corresponding topics were not: they were linked from and accessible from other topics in the outputFor one of the pieces of content that was present in Help (called, "ERP"), but not represented in the TOC, when I navigate to ERP by clicking a link within another topic, a different TOC entry (to a topic called, "E-verify") is highlighted. When I click the e-verify entry in the TOC, it takes me to the e-verify topic as expected.  Some TOC entries from a previous version of the TOC were displayed (but there were new items in there as well that were not created at the time)Some TOC entries were in the wrong TOC book (they had never been in those books in any iteration of the TO

Hello Everyone!I am new to Robohelp and have had no previous training but know fairly about how to use it. One error which is coming in my way of generating a printed documentation is that when the word file is generated, it is adding some additional blank pages which is not visible in word doc. But, when converting word file to PDF after final styling of the doc, the PDF file shows the blank pages. Have tried to resolve the issue but couldn't get through it! I had created an empty RH 9 project and had prepared it for our secretary in SVN. Instead of checking out the skeleton, she created a new project on her local drive and gave it another name. How can I best import that project into the correctly named one?--Christoph

During the attempt to rename a project (by edititing the hhp file and starting over ) it occured that the new TOC was empty. So I created a new TOC and imported an existing one into it.After that I now have two TOCs for choice. Just wanted to delete the old (empty one) since it's useless to me now. But the DELETE option in the right click menu is geyed out. So is not the DELETEoption for the TOC that was initially there. Strange, Whay can't I delete that one?

Hi - This may be a simple issue to resolve (most likely not I fear) but I just updated to a new hi-res 4k monitor and all the images, text, buttons in the RoboHelp 2015 application and help topics show up very small. CHM outputs also display poorly as does the web output.Are there any suggestions (besides setting the display to a lower resolution) to resolve this display issue? I was told to use scaleable images but we have 1000's of images in our help projects that would make this a daunting task. Is there some setting in RH that I'm not aware of that might help?We are considering upgrading this year to the 2017 Tech Suite - might that be an answer?Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is in a WebHelp output, published using RH 2015. It contains a handful of snippets, some of which contain links that open popups.In the output, when I click one of these snippets' popup links, the popup opens in the lower-left corner of the frame instead of adjacent to the clicked link. This means the popup frequently appears below the visible segment of the topic, as if clicking the link did nothing at all.How do I get snippet popups to appear next to their links, like regular content popups do?Thanks!

Hi All,I've spent a few days looking through the forums, and while some have come close, I need more specifics.  Let me try to describe what's going on:I recently 'inherited' a RoboHelp project a couple of thousand web pages deep that's probably 13 or more years old.  The original author and developer are no longer with the organization.  We recently upgraded to Rh 2015 and the conversion to the updated software (from Rh 11 to 2015) appears to have completed without incident.  (Let me add here that although I've been a Technical Writer for about 25 years, this is my first exposure to RoboHelp.  My 'training' consisted of a three hour crash course provided to me by my predecessor.  Unfortunately, she left a few things out...)I've learned to update content, generate and sequence the TOC, create books, and compile the project.  When I compile and pull it up in my sandbox, everything looks good, whether I'm looking at it in IE, FireFox, or Chrome.The PROB

When I generate Responsive HTML5 output the TOC only shows the book that is associated with the default topic that it opens to. How can I change this so that users can see all books in the TOC. Users could easily get the impression that the book that opens is the only content available. Multiscreen HTML5 output shows all books, while also indicating which topic is open but, Responsive HTML5 (where the UI looks so much better) is not allowing this default TOC to appear with all sections.The second screenshot is what I would like to open to--you can see how a user might not know that SECURITY, DISCOVERY, DATA SOURCE, and PREPARE sections are available in the first screenshot. The user will only get to that (5 book/section) view by clicking on INTRODUCTION TO PODIUM, which they might not intuitively know to do.
