Not a question. Just sharing the knowledge I gained from converting our RoboHelp HTML topic-based glossary to RoboHelp HTML's .GLO glossary. For years we've provided a glossary via a single topic; terms and definitions were presented in 2-column tables - one table for each letter, A-Z, top to bottom. Jump links for each letter at the top of the topic. For various reasons, I've been looking at the .GLO function (I really like the hotspot wizard, but I'm still not sure if it'll create any unintended formatting consequences with our content (thousands of topics)). We have a couple hundred terms and manually copying/pasting them in RoboHelp HTML is NOT something we want to do so I decided to see if I could automate most of the process (particularly since there's a single .GLO file and the guts of the terms/definitions is basic HTML).What you'll need:RoboHelp HTML 10 or RoboHelp HTML 2017 (likely applies to other versions; we have these two so I can verify it worked in both)MS Excel (or some
RH 2017 (latest) So, in some of our .htm pages, I noticed this style block kept appearing: This conflicts (takes precedence) with our style sheet, so I removed them. But what causes them to appear in the first place? I'm guessing it appears due to a copy and paste from Word into RH. Is that right? If so, is there a setting somewhere that turns this off so that copy-pasting only pastes straight text? I've not seen anything like that setting, and so my usual process is to paste into something that strips out all inline styling first, like Np++. Then copy from there into RH. I know in RH I can right-click on paragraphs, and choose Remove Attribute to get rid of inline styling at the paragraph level. But that doesn't do anything to this style block that gets added into the header. Thank you.
I've found a couple of other topics on the boards relating to this, but it looks like they might be for different versions of Robohelp. Thanks to Peter's great help on my PDF build issue I am on a roll. One more question ... it appears that the online docs generate fine as far as styles go. I'm using different master pages for online and print (different headers and footers). I attached the same style sheet to the master pages. The online docs use the style sheet as intended, but the PDF does not (it's like the styles don't exist). I've seen other posts that indicate that online and print need to use different style sheets. What do I need to add to the online style sheet to get the PDF Output to recognize that it will be used for print output?
I have a curious situation where a topic is suddenly not appearing in the compiled ToC. The topic is listed in the browser's navigation pane, but when I click on it, a message tells me the file is missing and may have been moved, edited or deleted. From within RH, the topic's file appears in the Contents list and the Table of Contents list, and it can be opened from both lists. Further, when I look in Explorer, the file is there, in the same folder as the other topics that appear with it in the compiled ToC. (These sibling topics display fine in the browser.) What could have caused one file that is certainly not mising in an RH project to be considered missing by a browser?
How can I remove the Favorites button from the home page? I use the 2020 version of RoboHelp.
I thought my questions were at an end. LOL I am having no problem generating Responsive HTML for my large project, but the PDF output has not yet been successful. I've poured over my project to try to figure out why it keeps failing, but I'm at a loss. Here is what I've checked so far. Java SE Runtime 8u261 is installed to its default installation path 64-bit machine, 64-bit version.Adobe Robohelp is installed to its default installation pathMy RoboHelp project is built on my local D drive, but it is synched with a folder on Dropbox for backup and distribution to the company I am doing the docs forThere are no broken links (close to 800 topics total in two manuals)One mystery file was listed in the RoboHelp log. I kept getting one message in the log that it failed to copy D:/Dropbox/ ....... (project path) ...../contents/assets/masterpages/_rhdefault.css. So I manually created a copy of that file and pasted it into that location. The error went away. The big puzzle is w
In RoboHelp 2017 I used a file named redistrb.txt found in the Redist folder to determine what to ship with my Windows app and chm file. Where are these same files for RoboHelp 2020? here is what was in the 2017 list:Please refer to the "Redistributables" section of the AdobeLicense Agreement that you received with this product for specificrequirements regarding the Adobe Redistributables. The Adobe Redistributables for this product are listed below:-------------------------------------------------------------ActxWH.dllCSH.DLLcshtml.dllHelpDesk.ocxHHActiveX.dllHTMLWH.DLLINETWH16.DLLINETWH32.DLLNpwsc32.dllPopup.ocxRHGBTN32.DLLRHMMPLAY.DLLROBOEX32.DLL
Hello. I installed RoboHelp 2020. But after opening the program a new window appears , where I want to click on "Start free trial", I always get the message "An error occurred". If i close the window the whole RoboHelp program shutts down. If there is someone, who solved the problem or had the same problem, i would be thankful. Best regards.

Hi Folks, I'm a lone tech writer at my company. We are now hiring two other writers. Our setup is very simple. We'e all on Windows 10 and use the latest version of RH 2019. I want to setup a source control system to manage the files. Note, we have no budget to get new software/hardware etc, so will probably have to use open source, eg Git. What software would you recommend? Also, anything we should avoid? Thanks.
I read here about using Conditional Tags from publishing, and have set that up. But here is my issue - I publish content to a test site first for review. After review, I publish to a production site. The new content I'm building covers several subjects, all with different areas. I'm working on several at a time. I *can* tag them all, but it will be a drag when I publish to test to untag them, then retag. Is there any way to tag my Books in the TOC? I haven't found a way yet, but that would be much simpler. Is there a better way to handle this? I *could* have two different Projects, but then would have to copy over data and add the screenshots, which would also be a lot of work. Very open to any of your suggestions. Thank you, stay healthy! Anahid
I am trying to allign some text within my project, but the option within the 'Properties Panel' isn't showing. When I go through all of the different headings in the panel, no font or text options are available to me. I have tried highlighting my text and also selecting before or after the text on the same line and still no luck. I am using a .css file on my topics and nothing appeared when I created a blank topic with no stylesheet attached to it either. Thanks in advance for the help.
Using RH 2019. Trying to connect RH to SP OK. when I create a connection profile to the root address of our intranet, RH lets me login in and make the connection.https://broadridge.sharepoint.com/sites/TechnicalDocumentation/SitePages/Home.aspx However, I need to connect to our tech docs folders is at: https://broadridge.sharepoint.com/sites/TechnicalDocumentation/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx?viewid=12ebf928%2Da4b5%2D4060%2D932c%2D8ee545fe5417&id=%2Fsites%2FTechnicalDocumentation%2FShared%20Documents%2FTEST When I do this, an error appears saying it could not find the site and check for permissions. I'm the SP admin so have full control. Anyone know why this is happening and how to get around it?
Notes on my experience with the "Indexing Reference" error, and how it was ultimately resolved. Been using RH since pre-Macromedia; managed multiple upgrades over the years/versions.Been using RH 2019 for approximately 1 year for 2 projects created in that version.Kept up with updates; currently running RH 2019.0.14 NewInstalled RH 2020, but holding off on upgrading/using to see what issues/bugs might be present. Also maintaining/actively developing 13 legacy projects in RH 2017.Started the upgrade for those legacy projects to RH 2019 (with the assumption we'll be going to RH 2020 once I've confirmed it's stable/supportable for OUR needs).Part of my upgrade process/test involves test-generating/compiling Responsive HTML 5 output (our main/primary output type).12 of the 13 projects passed all my tests - successful upgrade and compile.1 of the 13 projects successfully upgraded, but did not compile. Got stuck on the dreaded "Indexing Reference" process/error.Looked at every
Hello all of you! Just finished a major project in RH2019 classic based on merged MS webhelp chm's . Didn't migrate to RH2019 because I had errors and quirky parts (opening daughterwindows and things like that, sorry it's a while ago). I've chosen for safety, had lost a lot of time trying to upgrade. Pressure is off now, and I should start looking in upgrading to the most recent version of RH.I'm having several questions. Can I install the latest version of RH and start doing some tests, without loosing the possibility to continue working in RH2019 classic? I don't want to 'test' this, as it could be a irreversible choice. Knowing I had troubles with RH2019 'modern' gui and my setup of merged project, which would be the right path to follow for a test? best regards Olivier
Two of us share 20 child projects and had been working in RH 2019 Classic Version. We upgraded each project to RH2019 and now the search option is confined to the current project after it was generated. Is there a way to get the search capability back for the entire project?
Is there any way to insert Javascript and HTML forms into my Robohelp project? My requirement is to create a login form which then accessess an authentication server.
Hi all, I am using RH2020.1.54 and have the following question: when I generate a PDF output, elements such as tables and images are resized to fit onto the pages. When I generate a Word output, this does not happen. Thus, my tables and large images are exceeding the page. Are there any settings / definitions to be made so that the Word output works similar to the PDF output in this regard? I'm not very good with CSS and the like, but I wondered if I maybe have to tell my tables some maximum width for Word output only or something. But, why is it working for PDF, but not for Word? Any ideas, anyone? Best regardsKarin
Hi all,I am using RH2020.1.54.The quality of my images is suffering greatly when I make an PDF output. The quality was not completely good with 2019 new UI, but it was way better than it is now.I am using the following settings: image format is png, image is scaled to 96 ppi. The size in RH is not set to any fixed manual value, but automatical.PDF output is using the "default" resolution, which should also be 96 ppi. This is how my image looks in original and also in HTML5 output:This is how the image looks in the PDF output set to 100%So, it is definitely being resized. Can anyone tell me which settings I have to make to get clean images in my PDF output? Thanks in advance!Karin
This seems to have been a problem with a numnber of releases of RH, but does anyone have a workaround—other that going under the hood—for hiding the index button in generated output. I have deselected Include index in the preset and, whatever skin I choose, the index button still appears.
Hi again. Today, all I added to a RH project was a masterpage with breadcrumbs. I don't know if this is related, but all of a sudden one of my heading styles—once bold and red—is not displaying as it was before. What is strange is that when I look at a topic with this style in it in Author view and Preview, the heading style renders correctly (bold and red). When I look at the Source view, the right class is being applied. And when I look at the style in the CSS—Heading3NonTOC—it is bold, 13 pt and red (#DE350B): So the CSS is being applied correctly in RH. But when I generate HTML 5, the heading is rendered 12 pt normal and black. Adding to the strangemess, when I interrodate the generated HTML, the heading that is 12 pt normal and black is styled with the CSS class that says it should be bold and red:
Expanding and collapsing elements
I'm thoroughly lost! Any ideas?
Hi,I recently upgraded a project from RoboHelp 2019 Classic to RoboHelp 2020 (v2020.1.54). I have a topic called Appendix B that displays when I output to HTML, but does not appear when I output to Word/PDF. I duplicated the Online TOC and switch the duplicate TOC to a Book TOC format so that I could add a "front matter" Table of Contents in the Word/PDF. Appendix B is in the new Book TOC, hide in output is not selected, and for some reason when I output a document, Appendix B does not appear there. It skips right from Appendix A to Appendix C. Any ideas why this might be happening? The only way Appendix B is different is that it has several lengthy tables on it, but that shouldn't make the page disappear entirely.
Sometimes when I open a project that was created in RH 2019 in RH 2020, and when I get the error message to say upgrade, and I upgrade. And I am able to generate ouput successfully (at least I get a message to say output is generated) and then I find that no output has been generated and when I close the project and open it again in RH 2020 I get the same message to say that I have to upgrade my project again. Its like the upgrade hasnt taken place properly. Has anyone else had this?
Hi, Everyone. In RH 2019 (new UI), is it possible to specify the behavior of hyperlinks? What I would prefer is the hyperlink to open in a new tab. Currently, hyperlinks open in the same tab. And I have to use the back button to return to my help document. This dynamic has two drawbacks: My end user might mistakenly close the tab when done visiting the hyper-linked external site. When I use the back button to return to the help, it takes me back to the help, but with all drop-down text collapsed, even if they were all open before, and I lose my place on the page. Thank you!
In the merged output, each set of release notes is a child project. In this screenshot, you can see that you can navigate to a second level TOC entry in the merged output and the table of contents still displays:In the screenshot below, going to the same second level TOC entry for anther child project and the table of contents does not display. This is happening for several projects and I cant work out what is different between the projects that are working and the projects that arent working. I tried creating a new project from scratch with one of the problem projects and got the same issue. Here are the steps I performed:In RH 2020, File > New projectCreated new topicsCopied the content from each of the old topics in the old RH project to notepad ++ and then copied the content from notepad ++ to the new topics and reformatted the content in the new topics. Copied the css file from the old project to the new project. In the new project, added a studio skin and generat
