AE doesn't support .mxf video files on Windows 11

Community Beginner ,

On After Effects, I've been working on a project created with .mxf video files. This was on a Macbook Pro.

I recently switched to a Windows machine, when I open the converted project on After Effects, I get an error mesage saying the file is unsupported. Any help on this? How do I convert the .mxf video file to something AE will read?

I need a solution that doesn't require restarting the entire project.

Hi @killerdog12345,

Thanks for giving the 23.2.1 update a try, I'm sorry to see that didn't fix the issue.

Would you be able to share a collected project with us? Feel free to message me privately with a link for anything you don't want public. It is certainly possible that some metadata or attribute of the .mxf files from Mac might not be compatible with Windows, but we'll need to see the files to know for sure.

Thanks again,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team

Hi @killerdog12345,

Thank you for reporting this issue. It sounds like you are encountering an issue that we have just fixed in a patch release, After Effects 23.2.1. Would you please update to that version and let us know if the MXF files can be imported?

Thanks again for reporting this issue and for any further information you can provide,

- John, After Effects Engineering Team

Still didn't work for me.

I'm on Windows 11 with After Effects 23.2.1

Just to clarify the majority of the AE project (using the .MXF video files) was done on a MacBook Pro. As a test, I started a new AE project and imported a different .MXF video file (from the same camera roll), which worked fine. It seems to me, that a glitch happened during the transferring of this particular AE project from Macbook to Windows. Is there any more solutions?

I truly appreciate you getting back to me so quickly.

Thanks

I experience almost the same thing, just that After Effects crashes completely when importing MXF files or opens a project with MXF files. I'm on windows 11 as well.

@LasseLeon, I've responded to your post separately from this one. Since you are experiencing a crash and not simply an error when importing the .mxf files, I would think that you are experiencing a different issue.

Cheers,

This has been cold for a while, but I recently updated to a Windows 11 machine and, while AE and PPro can read .mxf files from my Sony camera, Media Encoder can not (thus I can't make proxy files). Also, when in both Preview and in Export, there are weird digital garbles immediately after an edit point and often PPro gives a frame substitution error. I can provide more details if needed, but this seemed to be as close of a thread as I could find to my issue. Any ideas? Thanks!

Similar issue here, upgraded to a high end PC on Windows 11 and my exports from AE have weird compression issues. Seems like AE (and maybe PP) doesn't like .mxf files. Haven't tested it yet but it could potentially have something to do with Lumetri color being applied. However, Media Encoder reads mine and I'm able to transcode to ProRes and solve the problem. Best of luck getting your issue resolved! Hope Adobe addresses this issue soon so we can use .mxf files natively in AE/PP again.
