After Effects warning: A nullptr was dereferenced

New Here ,
May 25, 2025 May 25, 2025

Im having this issue with any multple projects where i get this error saying  "After Effects warning: A nullptr was dereferenced" and the nulls in the project show as missing footage. I've also had issues with my PCs desktop icons, taskbar icons and file explorer icons not loading which started at the same time, not sure if that is super relevant. If anyone has every run into this issue i would really appreacite some help.

Hi @Grant376661292c5e

  • Were the projects created in a previous version of AE?
  • Are you using Dynamic Link or Content Aware-Fill in these projects?
  • Can you install the latest After Effects Beta app and see if you can still reproduce the warning?
    • Beta is a standalone app and won't interfere with the release install
  • Can you share any of these projects with me so I can try and repro in-house?
    • You can send privately via DM

Apologies for the extra wrenches and thanks for reporting the issue,

My solution was a full reset of my PC. Not sure if that would be everyone’s
solution though.

@Grant376661292c5e A full reset as in a factory reset or something else? And after that it worked?
