This has been a constant problem for the last year. Within minutes of working I get low memory errors on a system with 192GB of RAM and 2tb dedicated scratch disk. This error occurs at all stages of production and/or rendering.

Steps taken:
Updated AE with each new release
Stress Tested RAM and CPU
Disabled plugins and extensions
Full wipe and reinstall of the system
Upgraded GPU to RTX4080 Super

System Info:
Windows 11
Intel 13900K
Nvidia RTX 4080 Super
192GB DDR-5 RAM
After Effects 24.5
Dedicated System SSD, Software SSD, Scratch SSD

How much memory do you have assigned to AE?

Can you share any projects that cause this to happen?

Can you capture a log file? (Help -> Enable Logging, reproduce, Help->Reveal Logging Files, post the After Effects Log.txt file back here)

If anyone is able, we pushed a fix into the curernt 25.1 Beta build that is available in Creative Cloud Desktop that may address any remaining memory issues you are seeing. Give it try if you are able.

Ha!

I cannot render my project out. AE freezes every time. I was already rejoicing when I downloaded the fresh 25.0 update - until "Your system is running low on application memory" popped on the screen. So far, three hours lost in rendering time, and the deadline is getting closer as my blood pressure builds up. I just realized the fix is in version 25.1. Please, how long until it's released?

The same fix in 25.1 was back ported to 25.0 - we have confirmation that the fix we put in was working for a number of users so I don't know if your project is different than we are expecting.

I don't know if you can share your project with us? Or at least details about your hardware and then the project/comp resolution/bit depth, plugins used, etc?

@Rocketbottle This doesn't sound like same issue I encountered, as my rendering output performance was fine... but popping in to say try disabling disk cache. Doing this totally fixed the issue for me.

Bad news.

I was about to install the Beta version to be able to finish rendering. Unfortunately, I am not able to share this project. If it helps, here’s some information:

My hardware:

Mac M1 Ultra, 64GB

Sonoma 14.7.

Material is on fast Thunderblade SSD, APFS volume, RAID 0, connected to a Thunderbolt port.

Project:

AE v25.0 (seems to be worse than the previous v24.X).

32-bit, OCIO colour management, ACES colourspace.

1 layer 4K Prores 4444, RedLog3 - used 2 times.

Comp length +200 frs.

AE is using only 10% of the 64,0 GB memory when rendering.

Plugins & FX:

Rotobrush, light, camera and grain FX, various levels & blurs.

Element 3D, animated Obj sequence, 250 frs.

4K exr file for environment lightning.

Here are a couple of screen captures from the main- and precomps.

Disabling the disk cache does not help.

Restarting Mac and disabling hardware acceleration in import and output seem to aid a bit. [Edit - turning off hardware acceleration is not the solution]. I finally succeeded in rendering the whole timeline.

I am happy to send a log file. I hope I got something useful in there.

If you need anything else, please don’t hesitate to ask.
