Text editing and render very slow

Hello,

I've been using after effects for years, the 2023 update made text editing and rendering really really slow. I sometimes have to wait more than 20 seconds to see two poor words appear. (with a standard comp 1920*1080 25fps) It is impossible for me to work in these conditions.

I did the same test on after effects 2022 and I have no problem, text editing is smooth and rendering is fast. So it's not related to my computer. Please fix this.

Hi @yannb74446295,

Thank you for reporting this issue. We are investigating some similar reports about a performance slowdown in After Effects 2023, but we'll need some more information about your system to tell if this is related or a different issue. Could you please provide the following information:

  1. Your full system specs (CPU, GPU, RAM, etc)
  2. Your OS version
  3. The specific version of AE that you are running e.g. 23.2.0

A screen recording of the issue would be helpful as well.

Thanks agai

My specs :

iMac Pro 2017

OS : Ventura 13.3

CPU : 3,2 GHz Intel Xeon W 8 core

GPU : Radeon Pro Vega 64 16Go

RAM : 64Go 2666 MHz DDR4

I encounter the issue with AE2 23.2 and 23.3.

The problem was this one : When i create a new text layer and typing some text it doesnt show up immediatly, there is a delay of few seconds before appearing. That can be annoying when you work on several text layers.

I resolved this issue by myself this morning.

While typing text i noticed a message in my info panel "Fixing expressions affected by rename" so i renamed my text layer like "text 1" to cancel the expression and now when i type some text it's fluid again. A little tricky but it works for me.

...So I started having this problem this morning. I even generted a crash report because I had to quit the application. Anyway.. The only different thing I did today, with AE, was install a Non Adobe Cloud Font on my system (Windows10) and used it.

I tried swapping the font to an Adobe Font.... any one.... and presto! Back to fluid editing. Its quite unfortunate that the font my client chose to use in their brand deck wasn't an Adobe Font? With this work around I now have to do all of my text work in a font that may or may not have similar metrics. When I go back to turn the font into the one my client requires, I'm terrified I'm in for a sh!P storm - text editing nightmare.
