Community Highlight:

Hey community!

It's time for the February edition of our community recap. As always, let's start by featuring one of our community superstars. This month, our community superstar is Angie Taylor (angie_taylor). 👏👏👏

Angie.pngWith more than 1300 posts, Angie has been an inspiration for many users in our community. She is erudite and an expert in a multitude of Adobe apps. She has been an ACP (Adobe Community Professional) for a long time now and we really appreciate Angie's participation and presence in our community.

Angie is an artist, sculptor & animator, working in 3D with AR and VR tools to create large-scale digital sculptures and animations. Angie is based in Brighton, UK. Her work juxtaposes DIY, Punk ethics, with the fresh immediacy of Naïve Art and the technical complexity of VR and 3D digital technology. The subjects of her sculptures often explore feelings of isolation, “not fitting in” and the challenges of living with ADHD and Aspergers.

She is influenced by the punk movement in the UK that she grew up within the 1970s and 80s. Punk fanzine culture was the main vehicle of creativity for street artists at the time. She lived in Jamaica for a short time in 1981 where she was taught wood-carving by a Jamaican Rastafarian. She received a government grant to study art so returned to Scotland in 1982 to attend art college. Here she studied Sculpture & Drawing - making wood-carvings, bronzes & steel constructions.

This experience, combined with her passion for punk rock, gives her work a tribal quality. Angie is a huge fan of naïve art, rejecting conventional experience in representing real objects. Her digital sculptures deliberately display the polygons they are made from in the same way that primitive or naïve art often shows signs or marks from chisels or paint-strokes. Angie believes in capturing the feeling of the expression and presenting it in a perceived, raw state. The slightly wonky, broken appearance echoes her feelings about herself and her feelings of not fitting into society.

Through her subsequent work as a prop-maker, and a fascination with technology via deejaying, she eventually became a motion graphic designer and an expert in After Effects, Cinema 4D, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Character Animator, and other software applications. She was grabbed by Adobe in the early ’90s, freelancing for them as a demo artist. She regularly appeared at international conferences, trade shows, and other events.

Angie has had several books and video training published. These focus on the subjects of motion graphics, visual FX, and animation.

In the early 2010’s Angie decided she wanted to get back to creating art - as opposed to designing. This is when she gave up her work and started teaching in order to fund her work as a sculptor. She enrolled in a wood carving course and set about following her art.

Angie was awarded a life-changing artist’s residency in 2019 at Fusebox in Brighton. Here she learned about VR art software as well as game-engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine. Since then she has been immersed in immersive technology. Creating VR experiences that combine, digital sculpture & animation.

She now makes sculptures in VR and also uses 3D applications such as Cinema 4D and Blender. She also uses After Effects and Unity to composite her final animations and VR experiences.

Angie began researching crypto art in late 2019. She had her first sculpture tokenized on Superrare in May 2020. Since then she’s gone on to tokenize several more sculptures and artworks on Superrare, KnownOrigin, Opensea, and Pixeos platforms. Her artwork is now featured in the collections of some of Cryptoart’s most respected collectors, including @ metapurse, @ basileus, and @ vizique. She also has two galleries in Cryptovoxels, one in Somnium Space and another in VRLand where she displays her own NFTs - digital sculptures and animations.

Angie funds her own work by running a small training business “Creative Cabin Ltd”. It’s a private art school for designers and artists. Here she offers one-to-one art classes & training for children and adults in After Effects, Cinema 4D, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, Aero, Unity, and VR apps such as Tiltbrush, Gravity Sketch, and Masterpiece VR.

In the past, Angie worked as a motion graphic designer for 25 years. Angie's credits include:

  • Animation and post-production on Rubber Johnny, a collaboration with director Chris Cunningham, musician Aphex Twin, and Warp Records
  • Visual effects on the multi-award-winning short film Hibernation, directed by John Williams
  • Animation and design with UK-based design house D-Fuse for Beck's groundbreaking DVD album, Guero
  • Angie produced and directed live events such as The Slits at the Meltdown Festival in London and the Woman of the Year awards in London.
