UPDATE: Fixed in Premiere Pro version 25

I tested today CC2024.6 but I had to switch back to an earlier version after two crashes within 10 minutes.

After installation of CC2024.6 I cleared all mediacache and started to edit with one Sony XAVC MXF file (HD1018050P) from local disk.

One clip with colorcorrection and one overlay track with a titel.

Every time after a few minutes Premiere disappeared without any warning!

This happend during scrubbing.

@jamieclarke sadly, this crash immediately closes Premiere with no crash dialogue box. I downgraded to 24.1 and not having any issues on this version, but I really miss the easier to read color labels in the later versions.

Hi @StMarduk - Do you have any plugins installed?

After you upgrade Premiere to 24.5 hold down "SHIFT" while launching Premiere and check the boxes

"Reset Plugin Cache"

"Disable third-party plugins (one time only)"

Let us know if that helps your issue.  I will try and poke around and see if I can find anything.

@jamieclarke interestingly I had not had this problem for a while, then it cropped up with a vengance last night. I might have a few other data points for you.

My workflow is the same, I have a single file that I open that has premade bins and 3 empty timelines so I can just import the story and crank material out quickly. Usually that file is a read-only status in Windows, but for some reason I had it unlocked and accidently saved my Twins stuff in the "master" file. I didn't need that material anymore, so I just deleted the media and timelines. Immediately after that file didn't want any new MXF media and would crash no matter what. I have since started a "fresh" master file and so far it seems stable, but something about deleting the MXF media made Premiere very unhappy with that master file bringing in anything else new. You have the same type of MXF media from me on the fit to fill issue... I can send you the "corrupt" master file I use (it is windows based if that makes a difference) Let me know!

Hi,

I'm currently expereiencing frequent crashes with the following video format:

MXF File details:
Wrapper type: MXF OP1a (type: SingleItem SinglePackage MultiTrack Stream Internal)
File generated by: Sony, Mem (2.00)
AVC Long GOP High 4:2:2 Profile 10-bit Unconstrained Coding
Bitstream Format: Sony
Class 50

It's usable for a few mintues and then I get retriveal error at frame X premier freezes and closes.

Sometime randomly I'll get Unable to draw path.  GDI Status: OutOfMemory but this only happens when the above error occurs.

To get around this I just make proxies and it works fine. However when I need to turn off the proxies to colour correct it starts to crash again.

I'm not having issues with any other format apart from the above. The only other thing I'm noticing is that sometime media encoder runs really slow. If I reboot and run the render again it goes much faster. Not sure if its related or something else.

My computer spec is the following:

  • Intel i9-19700K
  • ASUS ProArt Z790-CREATOR Motherboard
  • 64 GB DDR5 RAM
  • ASUS Nvidia RTX3080
  • Samsung 970 NVME m.2 2TB (RAW Files on this drive)
  • Samsung 990 NVME m.2 2TB (Premiere installed on this drive)
  • Windows 11
  • Premiere Version 24.5

I've done a bit of Googling and ChatGPT and tried a few things but it still happens.

Yes I've cleared the cache. Haha.

Any help would be much appreicated.

FWIW I am running a Canon R5C and still having issues on 24.6 with my footage:

Camera Codec XF-AVC / Canon Log 3 / 3840x2160 YCC422 10-Bit / CF-Express Type A

All of my footage is being ingested to an internal SSD on my system before editing. I am on the latest NVIDIA Studio Drivers with an RTX 3080 and Intel i9 14900K. Media cache folders dumped as requested by @jamieclarke - 24.3 through 24.5 refuse to playback any XF-AVC entirely, while 24.6 fixes the playback error but crashes after less than 5 minutes in any project file using XF-AVC.

Rolled back to 24.2.1, no issues so far.

Hi @Theo Kooijmans - We are investigating this ImageRenderer.dll error and crashing issue.

Can you try troubleshooting one thing for me.  First install Premiere Pro 24.5 and then There is a file in the Premiere Pro folder labeled ImageRenderer.dll You can find it in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 2024 Can you try deleting that file and then update to Premiere Pro 24.6 and let us know if you are still getting crashes.

HI @TheCubeHamster -

We just released an update in beta that is a potential fix for these frame recursion errors.  Can you try downloading 25.0.0 build 29 or later and see if that helps your issue?  You can find it in the Creative Cloud desktop app in the sidebar labeled beta apps.

Version 25 is part of our next major release so it is not backwards compatible to 24, but it would be good to know if this version helps your issue.  Thank You!

Issue: I started Premiere today and wanted to continue with editing my project. But PR crashes now shortly after a couple of seconds of playback. - No freeze, nothing. PR just disappears.  Yesterday PR ran fine over hours. No issues. I changed nothing before shutdown and just did a regular boot up this morning. No updates or anything inbetween. (at least I know about or confirmed)

Adobe Premiere Pro version number:  24.6. and 24.6.1
Operating System: Windows 11 (64bit)
System Info:
Intel 12900 KS
Nvidia Gforce RTX4090 (newest driver, DDU the old ones)
192GB RAM Corsair Vengeance
(3x) 2TB 990 Pro Samsung HD (Operating Systems&Apps, Footage, Cache)

Video format: XAVC 10bit (FS7) , combined with Prores, both 4K
Workflow details: nothing special - simple editing, 50% speed for Slomo, but without FX, no AE exports - just put the Sony.cube file on the the Slog3 so far
Steps to reproduce: -
Expected result: -
Actual result: -

I constantly delete the cache
I went into the Project settings and switched from CUDA to software only rendering. With that set PR runs stable, but of course it's not ideal and scrubbing and playback is choppy. That shouldn't be an option with that system.

I was happy with version 24.6 - with the issue happening, I though - ok, I do the update to 24.6.1  - but that didn't solved anything.
I need to finish the project until Friday morning and this situation is unfavourable and bad.

Hi all - We are investigating a crash related to ImageRenderer.dll.  If you would like to help troubleshoot I would ask that you install 24.5 and then delete ImageRenderer.dll , You can find it in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 2024 and then update to Premiere Pro 24.6.1 and let us know if you are still getting crashes.

@jamieclarke Just wondering if there is any further update on this bug? The only work around that is working for me is to either transcode the footage to quicktime or render using proxies.

There's a recent post around here that the user was having unusual problems, like yourself. Turns out it was a bios setting that needed to be enabled. I think it had something to do with xmp. You might look around for it.
