P: Premiere media bin automatically scrolling to the top

After adding a clip to one of my project folders, the bin keeps on scrolling to the top automatically.

I closed and reopened the app, but the issue persists.

The issue happens only for that specifin folder, all others behave as usual.

Premiere Pro version is 24.5.0 (Build 57) on Mac OS Sonoma 14.5

I've just run the same test in v25.1.0 BETA (Build 11), the latest beta that shows available at the moment on Mac, and I couldn't replicate the issue. That seems promising.

Thanks Andrew; ran it to it again today:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/premiere-media-bin-automatically-scrolling-t...

I'll leave a note there pointing to this bug report to upvote.

I tested on Win10 PR 24.5.0 and what I see is this:

It only occurs in Icon view: List view AND freeform (with thumbnails) are okay.

I looked at few different "sort" options and none made a difference.

I tried turning off Hover Scrub and Thumbnails show effects, and it made no difference.

I created the "always scrolls to top" 3 times in a row by creating a new bin, double-clicking to open in a new panel, and dragging a bunch of clips from windows explorer.

Closing and reopening the project "fixed" it.

Creating a new bin and dragging the files there "fixed" it.

From that thread, a variety of conditions may "create" it.

Edit to add: I was not able to produce a problem in Beta 24.6.0.37.

@Kevin-Monahan @TrentHappel That discussion thread is not a bug report, and I see no staff comment there. Is there already being tracked? Can we get a status? I rarely use the Icon view, but users who do would find this frustrating.

I usually work in list view, but I had no problem creating the "scrolls to bottom" in Win10 PR 24.5.0.

I was not able to produce it in Beta 24.6.0.37.

The workaround seems to be to quickly drag one of those wildly scrolling clips onto the timeline. That stops it for the current session.

Thanks, @Stan Jones  for your input, I can confirm everything you mentioned except for the beta - don't have it. One more thing - I can totally reproduce this issue if I drag a clip from a Win11 window into the project bin - once you drop the file the scrolling starts

On occasion, when opening a previously existing project, I will try to scroll through my project files in the project panel, but it will automatically return to the top. I'm not sure what triggers it except that it usually happens after importing a new clip. The only thing that works to fix it is to completely restart Premiere. However, it is such a prevalent issue that it extremely affects productivity.

I think the main workaround is using List or Freeform view.

It worked, thank you!

But this should be adressed by Adobe. There has been no support for this problem for a couple of weeks now.

See this workaround in the discussion thread:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/premiere-media-bin-automatically-scrolling-t...

"whilst its auto scrolling, quickly drag any clip onto the timeline and it will stop scrolling!!"

I found that just selecting an item "fixed" the bin; I did not have to actually drag it to the timeline.

Today I could not produce the problem every time.

> quickly drag any clip onto the timeline

Fascinating! I had trouble "catching" an item to drag it. My list is not long. But I found that I only had to select an item, not actually drag it to a timeline.

Hello @Francesco32305837cpuo,
I moved this thread to the Bugs forum. Thanks for filing this bug. Can you and anyone else provide any other details to help the team reproduce the bug? See, How do I write a bug report?

Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin

I started having this problem just a couple weeks ago. Essentially, I just created a new folder in the Project Bin and tried to drag some video/photos into that folder. After I dragged the media in there and it loaded, I would then try to scroll through the media (using the thumbnail view) and the media would keep auto scrolling to the top. I tried holding down the mouse to keep it from doing that but as soon as I would let up on the mouse, it would auto scroll to the top. The only temporary fix that has worked for me is to Import the media rather than drag and drop which isn't as convenient. Hopefully a fix can resolve this issue.

OK, I finally got it to happen, perhaps there wasn't enough files I've dropped in, I drop 25 and it didn't happen, then I dropped in 30 more, and I see it now.

Same issue here. After drag and drop the clips into Premiere Pro, it starts to scroll down to bottom of the project window. I use Logitech MX Master 3S with the latest driver on Win11. All the drivers and Premiere Pro versions are the latest. Nothing helped yet.

Same problem, media bin keeps scrolling to the top. I need to make my bin big enough to see and work on all files. Not great when working on a single screen. This bug is a month old appearantly. No fix yet?

Been having this problem since the most recent update. It's been happening across all my projects in all my folders. I'm running Premiere Pro 2024 v. 24.5 on MacOS Sonoma 14.5. Frustrating to work with, hoping for an update soon.

I have this bug too and found out how to reproduce it and what the cause might be.

If you sort in icon view and try to move an item to the top or bottom, it will trigger the scrolling mechanism and get stuck. This happens for up and down scrolling.

Fix is to simply grab one item and move it a bit and release it, it will stop the scrolling mechanism.

I wouldn't say this is a fix, but rather a work-around. Adobe needs to put out a permanent fix for this bug.
