Yeah, I think the new basics have taken the spotlight since Lr4 released, but also the local (highlights and) shadows adjustments are awesome for this kind of thing... - maybe toss in some -contrast too. That way you can kill 2 birds with one stone: the same brush will pull the highlights down whilst raising the shadows up... In Lr3 my most frequently applied brush was -contrast - it was my "highlight recovery" and "shadows" brush (generally mixed with several other things to help target desired tones only...). Now I frequently brush with -highlights and/or +shadows instead - kinda does the same thing as -contrast, except preserves midtone contrast in the doing. And along with Lightroom's design criteria of keeping high's high and lows, low - these new locals don't generally leave the same washed-out/dull look as -contrast in Lr3 would. Clarity and others can still be mixed in to taste...

I too had the problem of not being able to print and not having a dialogue with the option to print on both sides. I found that this problem could be rectified in Windows by going to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers > Printer Properties > Device Settings > Installable Options > Duplex Unit: Not installed. By clicking on Not Installed, a drop-down menu appeared with the option of Installed. Selecting Installed and then clicking OK fixed it. Now when I print in Acrobat Reader, there is the option to "Print on both sides of paper." The exact path in Control Panel described above may vary slightly, of course, depending upon your verison of Windows, but following it as much as possible (allowing for variations) should get you there.

These are user-to-user forums, so while there are some Adobe staff posting here on a voluntary basis who will assist with technical product queries, they will not make policy announcements here or in personal messages. All official statements are posted to the product page (in this case to the CS Review homepage). Suggestions to "flood" the support email address are totally counter-productive. I appreciate that customers using CS Review want to know why the free version is being discontinued and if there will ever be a replacement service, but those who could answer are not allowed to. Of course Adobe are aware of our concerns, but as a company with shareholders they have to be very careful about what and when they make public.

I see, we are trying to reduce the file size of 13 Mb. I've tried printing/PDF smallest file size, reduce file size and optimize. None are reducing the size. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks

The 5D2 sends a 1620x1080i feed when in standby mode - as it's a duplicate of the 4:3 aspect ratio data for the LCD screen. The top and bottom pixels are black, giving the 16:9 live area in a 1620x910 box. When recording that drops to 720x480 (live area 640x388), but the feed in standby mode is more than adequate to rescale into 720p. Magic Lantern can turn off the overlay data - see http://vimeo.com/25580112 for a sample. If the original poster wants 1080p footage without the FAT32 time limit, he/she will need to swap to a conventional video camera rather than a DSLR. Well, an accelerator doesn't just jump to the position in the menu, it launches the command that is associated with it, so it can be used almost like a shortcut. If you open Acrobat and press Alt+F, O, it will open the File Open dialog, not just select that item in the File menu.

You need to put a clip or a color matte (other than black) in track one and the tiff in track two to see the transparancy.

I've been wanting to scan some docs with a combination of 'cut-out & stuck-on' printed text, usually skewed, and handwritten text. Acrobat Pro9 would rotate the whole page to make the printed text level, usually to dire visual results. Here's what I did: File > Create PDF > From scanner > Configure presets > Optimisation - Options > Custom settings > Deskew 'Off'

When performing distributed processing of video (Apple Compressor does this btw), there is an extra step where it has to piece back the separate parts into a single movie. This can sometimes take longer than the encoding process. But there can be an appreciable time saving for longer movies (30 mins+) so it's a feature I'd very much like to see in AME.

Hey Dave thanks for your reply. I don't think it is an issue with the export setting or any part of ID (I had originally posted there), since the same exported PDF prints fine in preview. It is only in acrobat that the fonts seem extremely light. I am using a TT font, and have exported the PDF in High Quality Print and Press Quality, both of which have had the same issue.

I faced today a problem on extracting non consecutive pages from a PDF document. In Acrobat X you can't extract non consecutive pages, you can select them but when you try to extract in the dialog box you see a selection of consecutive pages so Acrobat extract all the pages in that range. The solution I've found is to select multiple pages (consecutive with shift or non consecutive with ctrl) and drag them to the desktop! It works for me on OS X Lion and on Windows 7 64bit. Hope it helps Bye

For these types of serial number issues, I recommend you try our chat support at http://adobe.ly/tuMwkC. The chat agent can verify the serial number you're using to make sure that the upgrade you received is appropriate for the previous product. We're not able to do so in the forums or in an online document.

Definitely a scam, I would think Adobe would be all over these guys for using their logo, etc - and promoting a product that doesn't exist. Not to mention what bad things would happen should anyone download and try to install it!

Brilliant response David Merchant. Can anyone offer advice on this related situation in Premiere Pro 5,5: I have footage from a 3 camera shoot. One of the cameras was a locked off wide shot that I now prefer it be more zoomed in. I don't mind having the project in 720 - it's primary destination would be You Tube / Vimeo & DVD. All which would work well in 720 as far as I am concerned. The footage was shot at 1080/24. Could I simply edit the project in a 720 timeline, and scale up the camera track that I prefer more zoomed in? Does anyone know what the exact scale would be for 1080 to 720? For some reason, when I use the source file in a 720 Premiere sequence, the clips automatically scale to the sequence size. I'd want to scale it as best I could to retain a pixel to pixel relationship to avoid blur etc. But David, you say that it wont scale pixel to pixel with effects. The only effect I'd use on a scaled track would be color grading (with Red Giant Looks or Colorista II). What is the best way to do this - if there is one? Can I at least assume this method will look better than scaling up the particular camera in a 1080 sequence? Thanks, Angelo

You can include videos by URL using HTTP or HTTPs but not directly from Youtube, the url has to have the name and extension of the video. You can explore the use of javascript in acrobat, there are some options with java to include youtube videos.

It is sad to see that Adobe still seems to distance itself from the
needs of its customers. A company in tune with its customers would have
made many of these changes a while ago but Adobe, for one reason or
another, doesn't seem able to do it. Sorry you feel that way, but Adobe are very much "in tune" with customers - however the customers for DRM are enterprises, and enterprises can afford to pay the market price for enterprise-class software. LiveCycle may be expensive compared to consumer desktop applications, but paying 5 or 6 figures for apps is commonplace in enterprise when they provide that much value to the business. PDF already is a universal solution. Adobe Reader has close to a 100% reach on all desktop and laptop hardware, tens of billions of PDF files are shared every day, and it's an ISO standard - making it the only format accepted by many governments, courts and archival services. The entire print industry relies on it, and it's used for everything from shipping labels to eBooks. Despite improvements in HTML5 no other file format can do what PDF can, period. Acrobat could allow individuals and businesses to share documents and
information they want to maintain confidential and do so by e-mail
through the use of security features. It does - via password and certificate encryption. What you're asking for is remote control over access to a document, which is NOT the same thing. Acrobat could very easily do the following (in my humble opinion and without too much work on Adobe's part): Sorry but no. All those features are encompassed by DRM, and cannot be achieved by any other method. It's both technically and practically unrealistic for desktop software to act as a DRM coordinator, as not only are most desktop machines firewalled, but they are rarely online 24/7/365. Servers are, hence LiveCycle is a server application. You're talking about "activating" a document on certain combinations of hardware, which you will have done for software such as Windows, Acrobat, Creative Suite, etc. - all of which must connect to a remote server to verify the license is valid (or by telephone to someone using the remote server on your behalf). That's DRM. It's not cheap, it's not easy, but it's worth the expense if the item being protected has sufficient value. If not, software vendors just use serial numbers and forget about tracking how many times the thing's been installed - and in PDF that means password or certificate encryption.

What is the obession with removing all the UI elements? i have 24" inch monitor and 1920x1200 resolution like millions of other people and all these software companies want to do is remove all the ui elements. Its ridiculous. What could possibly be the justification for removing the navigation toolbar? don't say more screen space, its bloody nav toolbar.... helloooo this is a main aspect of the software and you think its time to remove it by default? Is there some obsession with these browser designers to remove all the ui elements? Not only that, if you go to show navigation pane buttons. Then the floating toolbar (that is also annoying) fails to come up anymore and you can't even remove the navigation button bar which pops up on the left. Not to mention every single time i open a pdf i now have to press f8. Who thinks of this?
