In addition to what the other guys have said, you might like to experiment with Premiere as it has vastly better memory management and also a pre-render mode that permits you to work in a low res mode while editing. Photoshop frankly is not that great when working with video

you are virtually there already but you are missing a step 1) start with an empty layer 2) Select the 'rectangle' shape tool making sure 'shape' is selected at the top 3) Draw your initial rectangle 4) Go to the 'shape' tool menu and select 'subtract front shape'-this is what you are leaving out 5) Draw out your second rectangle and it will make a hole in your shape 6) Switch to the 'ellipse' shape tool and draw a circle ctrl-alt-shift + spacebar allows you to position. I'm fairly certain that Bridge is a free download if you have the Photographic Plan. I have the whole of Creative Cloud and certainly Bridge is included in that. Lightroom is a far more capable application than Bridge. It duplicates many Bridge functions but as it has a built in image management system is far more flexible than Bridge. Many people ignore Lightroom as it sounds like just an image viewer, in fact its Adobe Camera Raw built into a dedicated interface and incredibly powerful. Many 'lite' users will tell you that Lightroom can replace Photoshop for the average user and that is true. Of course Photoshop comes into its own when you need to do very creative things, but if you just need to make photographs look their very best Ligtroom will do that for you with a very much shallower learning curve. Photoshop is a color managed application and understands the Adobe RGB color space. Most computer applications are not color managed and misinterpret colors that come from color spaces other than the bog standard sRGB space. Adobe RGB is a bigger space than sRGB but they are quite close. You would find if you were using ProPhoto RGB then color shifts in the Windows PhotoViewer would be even more noticeable. If you want your images to look in other applications the way they do in Photoshop it's fine to use Adobe RGB in Photoshop or Lightroom, but you must export the image not just save it and select 'convert to sRGB' and 'embed profile'. The image will then look exactly the same inside or outside Photoshop, even if you open the exported image in Photoshop again it will look the same as the original even though the color profile is different. That's good to hear and congratulations on solving it for yourself. A very weird problem indeed as I am using Windows 10 and ACR 10.4 and it works. I can only assume there is a conflict with a driver somewhere, the obvious candidate being the graphics card. ACR 9.1 is a few years old now so you probably will not have access to the 'Dehaze' feature or the 'Range Mask' both of which are quite useful. The very strange thing is Lightroom Classic uses ACR 10.4 internally and that works for you which is hard to explain. Adobe seem to be releasing Photoshop and ACR updates almost monthly now so it's possible there might be an ACR update next week. Terri

OK can you check the 'file association' for .Nef files. Right click a .nef and select properties. Press the change button and make sure Adobe Photoshop 2018 is selected and press OK-see if that makes a difference..

yup your Nef image is fine and I can open it easily. You need to appreciate that we need to eliminate all the possibilities to narrow down what the exact problem is. So we now know your Photoshop install is faulty. I think the next step is to uninstall and reinstall Photoshop using the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool. This tool is much more efficient than a simple uninstall. Remember to restart the computer after it removes Photoshop. Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

are you using the software that comes with your Nikon?-there are known compatibility issues between ACR and the Nikon software-it's use either one or the other for processing. Try downloading a sample .nef file from here https://www.photographyblog.com/previews/nikon_d750_photos/ If Photoshop opens that file then your problem is file modification into a format ACR cannot read.

What camera are you using? If you use the Adobe DNG Converter on your Raw images will Photoshop open them? Have you been able to open RAW images in the past? Also have you tried using 'Open As' Then make sure you choose the Camera Raw option Terri

it seems to me you are using all the techniques that real professionals use, channels, calculations, apply image, pen, custom brushes. Once anyone has had any level of success using these techniques the automated tools like 'select and mask' and select subject will always disappoint as they are compromises to avoid the need for an in depth knowledge of masking. Don't get me wrong they are clever and a quantum improvement on selection tools a decade ago, but it will be a long time before these tools will cut out a furry animal from a non homogeneous , blurry background. If you charge for your services you will always command a premium with your current methodology, so stick with what you are doing and put quality ahead of time.

Hope Dave's explanation now suffices as he knows what he's talking about. However it's not necessary to toggle the grid through the menu as all you need to do is press ctrl-h or cmd h on the Mac and it will temporarily turn the grid pattern off while you work on that particular image-it's exactly the same as hiding the marching ants for a selection. If you follow Ged's link you can use the 'Chat' console and a technician can then remote desktop to your machine and see what is going on. I would advise you to have a backup of your system though as the techs may move around system files not just CC files. Other than that it's hard to know what to suggest. I suggested earlier turning the antivirus off which didn't work, however you could try temporarily turning off your firewall just in case somehow a firewall rule has been created or a port closed.

OK so the cloud side of your installation looks fine, your account must be valid as you can login while online to see your librarys and so we can rule out a TCP/IP or account issue. I think we may therefore be looking at a corrupt desktop app installation after the update so I'd advise you to uninstall the desktop app and then reinstall. To uninstall use the dedicated uninstaller below. Uninstall the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application Restart your computer and run the desktop app installer Download Adobe Creative Cloud apps | Free Adobe Creative Cloud trial Once installed start the computer again and if necessary login. Hello Steve, check you are still logged in. I'm finding with these updates Creative Cloud is failing to log me back in after the update-it happened this morning. Furthermore it can be very reluctant to accept my login credentials and just says 'Not Signed in' . If I restart the PC then all is fine (I have CC set to autologin). After doing a restart the problem disappears. Also try disabling your antivirus product for a minute or two and see if the libraries become available. It's surprising just how much effect AV packages can have. I have Adobe Stock licences and had a problem last week where I could view just one page of stock images, even though there were hundreds of images available. It turned out to be Kaspersky Antivirus blocking the service.

At 100% magnification Photoshop maps one screen pixel to one image pixel and so the size on screen depends on the pixel dimension of the image. If you upsize the image so it contains more pixels it will be bigger on screen. What you probably want is to fit the image to the screen. You can do that by pressing ctrl 0 or cmd 0. The zoom won't be 100% but it will be easier to work on. Terri

Hi Norman, It's a shame people shy away from any mention of LAB mode on this forum. It's really the best method for color changes and also getting the very best out of saturation, you can even emulate HDR. There seems to be a mental block about using it which is a shame. On the other hand for people like me who do use it, it gives a competitive advantage as others can't make out how you have managed to squeeze such spectacular color from dull, lack lustre images. when you open any file in Photoshop the program writes a mass of metadata to the original and that boosts the file size-metadata is not compressed. You'll find if you strip out the metadata the file size will be smaller than the original saved with 100% quality.
