Make sure that the 2 Documents ( The original artwork and the new document ) have the same Color Mode (CMYK or RGB) and have the same Color Profile. To edit color profiles: - Edit>Color Setting - Edit>Assign Profile

Can you give a screenshot of your illustrator and object. Make sure that you didn't apply a 3d effect then you try to go to effect again to edit it.... you can edit effects from Window>Appearance. But let us know more about what you are doing exactly.

You mean that you made an alpha channel for your image and saved it but when you open it again it is opened as PNG with transparency ?!

If you have the SVG file of it you can edit it easily in Illustrator. It may be grouped so double click with the selection tool ( The black arrow ) to select object in a group and double click again to select object inside. Or you can go to Object>Ungroup. ---- If your file isn't editable and it is an image you can use the Image Trace.

Just try not to rely on masks. Auto blend put similar pixels from the first layer above their counterparts from the other one.

And you can also adjust your colors with Filters>Camera Raw Filter it will give you more options to adjust just whites,blacks,highlights and shadows or editing a specified area or colors. Note: Camera RAW Filter DOESN'T work with the CMYK color mode but it is working with RGB.

You can use: - Gradient map Adjustment from Image > Adjustment > Gradient map. or - Using any adjustment like Channel Mixer/Hue & Saturation with Colorize ... But it is depending on what you need exactly.

As Monika Said, Halftone effect doesn't produce vector shapes. So to do something like this: - Create a shape with black to white gradient because black will convert to large dots and white will be so small dots. - Make image trace to the result to convert it to vector. As result, This logo is made with the Halftone Effect.

Selecting it by Select>Color Range and select the White area and delete it. Then Select the layer that contains the black area then from Layer Styles in the layer panel or Layer>Layer Style you can add a black stroke and increase it till your white spaces filled. I hope it may help you!

In Illustrator it is not like Photoshop. When you make something on a path like Brush or Text on a Path, it will remove your shape but your path will still exist and you can't add more things to the same path like brush and text for example. So like tromboniator said , You can copy the shape first.

Select every layer ( layer by layer ) and adjust it using Image > Adjustment > Levels. - It will be better if you convert layer to smart object first ( From your snapshot your layers are already Smart Objects ) so skip this step. You can adjust it in an advanced manner with Filters> Camera RAW Filter and adjust color correction to get your image match to others.

It is just hand image selected and copied from another image. Flashes drawn with pen tool and had a bevel layer style. And over all of them a texture image with blending mode. But This is in Photoshop.

You can make it in any 3D application but in Illustrator you can use the 3D Extrude from Effect>3D>Extrude and Bevel. Then you can expand it and color it as you need or playing with the 3D map Art in the 3D effect window. You may have a result like that.
