After Effects

Hi There! I'm writing this post to seek out some guidance and "best practices" for implementing a specific type of parameter in my effect. In many third-part effects, I've seen buttons along with the list of configurable paramters that spawn a modal window that allows users to enter in text and then somehow store that text with the layer.   I'm sure there are many ways to accomplish this, but wondered if any of you have knowledge about a relatively simple way of doing this.   Does it require linking to a C++ library or framework that allows for the creation of custom UI elements?  Or, does Adobe's AE SDK have methods for generating this from the C++? Is it better to just have the button perform some kind of ExtendScript that launches a dialog? Thanks for your time!—Arie

Hello, my video shows fine in AE, but when I render, the first 2 seconds are black. ANyone has any recommendation? please.

I copy layers with puppet effect to another composition but it can't work and turn grey in new composition.As the photo below, i copy layers from folder3 to comp1.(sorry for my poor English)

When I open AE on Windows 10 and try to move a layer up or down the shortcutsCtrl+Alt+UpArrow or Ctrl+Alt+DownArrowdon't work.Shortcuts Ctrl+Alt+Shift+UpArrow or If I use Ctrl+Alt+Shift+DownArrow work fine.Also Ctrl+Alt+Home doesn't work.After a while using AE (a few minutes) every shortcut works properly again.How can I fix this annoying problem? Is anybody experiencing the same?Any help?Cheers,Davide

Hello, I need help,  2 days ago my  time remap shortcut in after effect stopped working out of nowhere, also the reverse one, I thought what was wrong was the ctrl alt combination but I can make shortcuts with that combination and another letter, but for Any reason with the letter T as the original shortcut not working for me, does anyone know if there is a solution?

What is the reason keyframe is duplicated? 

Can someone help me to point out the problem that i have gap between clips in AE  imported from  PR PRO through replace with AE composition method. my clips in premiere have only clip duration changed.         

I don't know what I'm doing incorrectly. I keep trying to follow a how to video, but everytime I try and rotoscope it doesn't track the outline I've drawn. It either doesn't show up around the part I'm trying to rotoscope or just goes on random spots on the outside of her body. As far as I know I've set everything up right, fps, etc.

I don't know why but when I'm trying to create a perfect circle shape by pressing the shift key, it keeps doing an oval. Always the same proportion but never a circle.Any idea why and how to fix this?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Would be nice to be able to import a PSD and be able to edit the text from said file.

I want to import existing SBS footage and overlay 3D text, animations and other effects. I can not figure out how to make this work. Clearly AE is capable of displaying things in SBS, but no matter what I try I cant figure out how to have the left and right parts of an SBS video set up in AE so that it displays in 3D when you enter 3D glasses mode. I followed one of the tutorials and quickly created an animation with a SBS 3D rig and output a file that can be viewed in 3D and the 3D editing for this is very smooth, but I want to be able to use this with existing SBS content. Can anyone think of a way to make this work?  Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Hi! I know there is a conversation about this, but none of the solutions helped me yet.I have permament black screen in Adobe After Effects, no matter what I do, tried to Purge the disk, reinstall, nearly everything but the black screen keeps punishing me. I want to mention that the black screen not showing always. It's like videodependent, cuz I want to edit a video, I get a black screen, but if I import another video, I don't see black screen.I thought that it's something with the Composition settings that the resolution if smaller then the imported video's resolution, but I was wrong. Thank you guys for helping me.

In the Project Panel, when I have a larger Project with lots of folders and importet graphics, always when I rename a folder or a graphic it automatically "scrolls" down (without animation - just a jump) -> so the folder or graphic I renamed is at the very bottom.Is there a setting to remove this? Because to keep an overview with similary named files it would help if it would stay at the same position. GreetingConstantin

Every time I am forced to download an update through the Adobe Cloud, After Effects breaks my connections to plugins on Maxon and even other Adobe programs like Media Encoder. Please, either coordinate with your other programs better before releasing sweeping updates or just let me purchase a legacy version of these programs and decide for myself whether I want to update to a new version. Even if I spend 2-3 years worth of the subscription service on a program that is entirely mine to own I would much rather that than the current system which has caused no end of troubles and time loss in my professional career every time a change I do not opt into gets rolled out.Please, if you are going to be the industry standard on so many of these systems, either give us control over our use of it or (at the least) make sure your programs work together.

When I first open a project, depending on the project weight my monitor goes black for a second whenever I move my cursor. I can't find a solution to this problem for over a month now.

why my camera tracking takes too much time in After effect 2024.I am using windows 1112th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900K 3.20 GHz Processor128 GB (128 GB usable) RAMNVIDIA Geforce RTX 4070 Ti footage resolution is 2560*1440For 30 sec video 3d camera tracker takes approx 8 to 10 min.  

Can anyone tell me if this is possible?  I need to link an overlay to the motion of a phone. At the same time the director wants me to dynamically link the movement of the phone and the handheld motion of the camera. Ideally I would be able to use a slider to control the amount of handheld motion and phone motion. 

I was wondering how I would how I would be able to crop or track a high moving clip and double or even triple the part I want to add. this clip here is of the girl running, but I wanted to know I could have it at some point where I could clone just her running and even have some of them behind her layer-wise. like between her and the back ground so to speak. I tried thinking of clips to better explain what I'm thinking of, but nothing came to mind. 

It has been beyond frustrating this feature has not worked for a while now. I'm on a Mac Studio 2022 (M1 Ultra 128gb) and haven't been able to use this for a while now. It will initialize for roughly 5-10 minutes then give me the "timed out obtaining dynamiclink connection" error every time. On a 230 frame getty clip. I tried pre-comping, confirming the frame rate matches comp, trying different codecs. All it feels like is a waste of time. Pretty please with sugar on top please fix this. Thank you.

Hi Everyone!I am a beginner and facing a problem. When I imported an illustrator file in After Effects and converted it into a vector layer it had groups. Now, if I want to animate that specific group or shape in that shape layer, I can't see its motion path.In the first screenshot, I enable position keyframes using Rectangle Path 1:    In the second screenshot, I tried to animate the position of Transform: Rectangle 1 instead of path.  Lastly, when I animate position of the shape layer the motion path appears    Note: I am sorry if I am using the wrong term. By "motion path" I mean the path between two points of a square shape.
