After Effects

Hey Everyone!I am working through understanding the camera in After Effects a little better by watching tutorials, but I'm running into some problems with the DOF. I noticed that no matter what camera I create, aperture, F-stop, and blur level are all grayed out. Also even though the checkbox is selected, Enable depth of field option is also grayed. Then I went to Comp settings and looked under the 3D Renderer options and I see that a ton of settings are disabled, including Depth of Field. I cannot find anywhere how to enable these settings and I hope someone out there knows how to solve this. I'm attaching screenshots so you can see it better. Also on the camera settings, I do have DOF On in the timeline. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I recently watched the movie, Hausu (House, 1977) by Nobuhiko Obayashi and I was really intrigued by the mirror scene where Gorgeous's face falls off in bits. I want to attempt to recreate it. I have been researching online to see if I could find a tutorial or an explaination on how Obayashi did it and so far all I've read was that he used a blue screen. I know it seems simple but I just can't wrap my head around it. Could anyone explain or point me to something similar that help me understand how that scene was created? Thank you!

The only way to open it is to open a previously saved file, which isn't the normal way. My PC's specs:CPU: i5-9400FRAM: 16GB

I accidentally pressed delete plugin when my after crashed, and the plugin that caused the crash was extracted, now I can't use it anymore, what can I do to solve this?

Hello, I am having an issue masking an image in AE using a shape layer. I am trying to make the image hide behind the mask until it begins to animate where I've added keyframes. When it begins to animate/move, I want it to come out from behind the mask.My problem is that I don't understand how to make the object hidden as it shows through the mask before it starts the animation. I've tried inverting the mask and also tried subtracting in the mask while it is placed over the object. Also, the track matte is connected to the object's layer.I know I am missing something and any help is much appreciated. Thanks!  

I have a project that crashes After Effects every time I try to open it, with this error message: I created the project in November 2022 in After Effects 22.3 on a 2019 MacBook Pro running macOS Big Sur 11.7. In late November I received a new computer for work - a brand new M1 Max 16" MacBook Pro - and since then, I've been unable to open the project. This project uses a preset called Numbers+ by Creative Dojo, which, in the developer’s words “is just a bunch of expressions tied to a pseudo effect”. Adobe After Effects 2023 program is giving me an error. After working for 1-2 minutes in the workspace, I encounter an error like the one in the screenshot. I am using the original program and the latest updates, but I can't find the source of the error. I would appreciate it if you could help. Good day. 

After effects has been lagging a lot lately. I have already cleaned the cache, fixed the player settings to load faster. but for some reason it still starts to lag like that every 5 seconds, especially when I apply some effects. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. I used to ship perfectly with excellent quality yet. The laptop is new. What is the problem?

Hi. So I've been trying to make a rubik's cube. I've precomposed every single little cube and then built this using z position, and parented every individual wall to a null object layer, and all the null objects to a bigger null object for everything, but when I spin it to the other side, for example y rotation, (as you can see the bottom row) it keeps the z positions under other layers even though I spun everything. How do I fix this? I feel like I've tried everything ;-;

I'm trying to create the effect of text rotating around an elongated cube within text animate. 'Grouping alignment' will change the x and y axis but doesn't have a z axis. I know I could just rotate the entire copy layer, but I want to have a text animate effect I can copy and paste, as well as having offset characters. You can see in the below image that my text grouping alignment is at -36% for the y axis. I just need to move that point behind the copy so that the text looks like its revolving around a cuboid.  Changing the anchor point in transform doesn't make a difference. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Ryan

Hi. I am trying to use a template I had made in the past that uses a font installed from a project long past. The font is not showing up in After Effects, but it is in the Mac Font Book. I have added the ttf extension in the fontbook, but this doesn't work. And then I tried adding the otf extension and this doesn't work. When I have tried an online font converter, it says the file is empty, even though on my computer the definitely have about 35kb each. I am on an M1 Ultra running MacOS 13.4.1

Hello, does anyone know what I can do to make the spectrum lines horizontal instead of pointing towards the center of the semicircle? 

Could you please tell me how to reverse the direction of "Slow Fade On".I'd like the text to Fade On from the right side instead of its default left side.Image attached, thanks!

It seems that when the frame shows frame 00:00 it looks normal, but when the frame shows 00:01 onwards, the drop shadow suddenly becomes more obvious, even though the distance or size has not increased at all. Nb: I added a posterize time effect to make the text wiggle effect

Hi, I just got a dell G16 gaming laptop for after effects and 3D work. I am confused whether to get the SCREEN laminated or not. A lot of posts say not to laminate the screen but I wanna keep it protected from fingerprints and dust. Would it be unadvisable to get it laminated? 

I have a font with colored elements in it. However, they turn black and I can't seem to change it.What am I doing wrong? The font in question is the purple one:

Hi everyone,I have a problem with the 'set matte' effect. When I create a shape layer that acts as a mask and I place the 'set mate' effect on the layer I want to have masked, the mask works but it is way smaller then the mask layer. I don't know why this happens sometimes.Maybe someone knows a fix?Thanks!

Hello, does anyone know what I can do to make the spectrum lines horizontal instead of pointing towards the center of the semicircle? 

If you grab the center of a 3D anchor point (grey ball) you can change it's X/Z values simulateously. Is it possible to change that to X/Y? It would be much more useful to me.

i bought the signal plug in, i manually installed following the instructions in the zip file, once in after effects i registered the key they gave me when i bought it, i used it in my project but when i render it, it renders my video without the effect. am i missing something? am i doing something wrong? on the preview window it shows a thumbnail crossed with a pink x its my first bought plugin so idk what else to do and i don't want to feel like i wasted money 😕😕

I recently updated After effects. When I try to open the app, I get this error: "error while accessing the preference files inside '.../library/preference/adobe/after effects/23.6'" When I go into the library folder, I see that my mac is setup so that the Adobe folder in question is located under ".../library/Application support/adobe" I have already gone into my perferences setting and allowed AE file and folder access. The problem seems to be in the program scripting itself. I am unsure how to fix this.

After applying the "change to color" effect in After Effects, why are there strange lines appearing? Please specify the issue.

I'm trying to sync audio of a 3D person talking to the video of them talking. However, when the AE timeline plays back the audio lags behind the video making it impossible to match without expoting a video.. After I export the audio is in sync. Anyway to just have it sync in the timeline? Thank you
