Character Animator

Hey everyone,I've run into a snag with Adobe Character Animator that's got me stumped. I'm getting this internal error code: (457558034:248+18) attempt to index a nil value. Now, I can't even open the program. 😕😕Has anyone else encountered this issue? Any help would be much appreciated!Thanks in advance,Danny

I imported an Illustrator file to Character Animator and the colors shifted drastically, as if they were overly saturated. Did a few exports including trying out the RGB/CYMK settings in Illustrator, as well as embeding the ICC profiles. Also, how come Character Animator has no manual settings available? Anyway, here's the workflow (which has never troubled me before):1.Save artwork as *.ai to my SSD (offline) - RGB, no ICC embeding2.Import *.ai to Character Animator3.This happens (screenshots): 

It seems that I keep getting the arms to work only to see that they've lost their rigidity again. It just happened now as I recorded leg movements through dragging. Right now, the right hand can be pushed up into the shoulder making it really short. Usually, the left arm fares better than the left. But right now they both get really skinny when I bend them. One thing I find peculiar is that the r_arm within the the rarm contains an origin whereas the l_arm does not. And I can't delete it. I've attached the puppet. It's an altered version of Dr. Applesmith from the website. If anyone can have a look, I would so much appreciate it. Oops I guess the .puppet extension is not allowed. I changed it to ppt. I don't know what that is but I gave it a shot. I also attached the .psd file.

Hey! I hope all is well 😃 I'm interested in animating The Professional puppet maker pack with motion library and body capture. I attempted a few times however I am still having trouble getting motion library and body capture to work properly when applied to this puppet maker.  Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I hope someone can help me.To control Character Animator live streaming from an external computer (since streaming screen and input source are physically far apart) I take on my Mac, the application as mmhhmm as a software camera. Start a video call from the software and then I can select the video call image as the input source at "Camera" in Character Animator. Perfect solution, with no latencies. On the Mac, I can select the software camera without any problems.On the Windows machine, it just won't show me the camera. Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be?Thanks a lot and best regardsPipoon Mac it works perfectly

Hello together,We have the problem that the frame rate when streaming (streaming only) exterm becomes much lower and thus extremely jerky on the output screen connected via USB-C. instead of 24fps we only achieve 8.5fps.We have been able to rule out file size, processing power, etc. as the cause.It is also interesting that Pupets from the library do not trigger these problems. The value remains at 24fps.Does anyone have a solution here? Thank you so much. Pipo

Hi,everyone i want to make my puppet move his hand back and forth.I add the behaviour cycle layer but the hand disappear and appear only when i push the trigger.I used swap set but it is too slow because i have to move from layer to layer manually.How to get the same effect as when i use cycle layer without the hand dissappearing.I don't want to use camera i want to move from layer to layer by adding a trigger and without the animated part disappearing.

Hello, we have been asked to do a live webcast using our CH character but our voice actor will not be controlling the puppet or onsite where I will be controlling the puppet. So I need a solution to get our voice actors microphone to my computer and have CH recognize it as a microphone. Anyone tried this before or have some suggestions?

I'm getting frustrated with the crashing. Ch crashed about a dozen times yesterday. I've deleted & reinstalled several times. I have 32GB of RAM on a two year old PC. Does it matter where I store my assets? Should I keep everything on my C drive? It's frustrating because I put so much time into learning Ch. I just wanna dive in & play around. TIA

when i open old CH files some parts that are in the pupet original in this case its a illustrator file, a psd file of a skirt are not loading anymore. is there a reason, or is the extension not supported anymore

In this month's Character Animator Tips & Tricks, August 2017 @ 10:41, two layers are merged in a puppet by using the Command + E action. It's an arm and a hand. It works in the video in Photoshop but I'm unable to duplicate the effect in Illustrator. Is there an Illustrator version to doing this? Dave, in another video, says something to the effect that he likes to save a version of the puppet with all elements as they are ... and then creates a second puppet with elements merged and simplified to be used in Ch. I'd like to follow best-form principles. So this merging of layers seems important.Thanks for your help,Evan

Downloaded and installed adobe character animator 2023 on my Windows 10 Pro system and selecting File then New Project does nothing.  No dialogs open. Nothing changes in the UI. There are no errors. App is completely unusable. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and got the same result.

I feel hard to create puppet and avatar in starter mode at CA, very keen on support from community, thank you !

I have several characters with walk triggers added and others that do not have a walk trigger.  I would like to add a walk trigger to those that don't have it but I don't want to start from scratch.  Is there a way to "reuse" a trigger from one character on another if the original image has the same named parts?

animation lost when importing audio

I've been having problems with the triggers, I created different types of mouths with letters as activation keys doe the triggers but everytime I pressed those keys the default mouth desappears leaving a blank space in the recording panel and not showing the triggers at all. The other arm triggers work fine and they seem they have the same sset up as the mouths.I would appreaciate if any of you knows a solution! 😄

Hi everyone!I would like to ask if it is possible to create videos with character animation, where a simple cartoon (not a human, but something like a heart with a face and arms/legs) speaks a 40 second text. We need this avatar for different languages. And it should just move its mouth when it speaks and have some animation. So the idea is to create and animate an avatar and use different audio files in different languages to introduce the following things. For example: our heart avatar says the 40 seconds text in Arabic. our heart avatar says the same 40 seconds text in Russian....Thanks for your help, I haven't found anything similar in the community yet. 

Hey,Ich hoffe mir kann jemand helfen. Ich habe eine Figur welche nur ihre Lippen bewegt wenn ich spreche.Das macht sie auch perfekt. Diese wird in OBS via NDI übertragen. Auch da ist alles Perfekt. Sobald ich in mein Mikrofon spreche, bewegen sich auch die Lippen (in Adobe sowie in OBS). Allerdings nur wenn ich DIREKT in Adobe Character Animator bin. Sobal ich mit meiner Maus auf einen anderen Bildschirm gehe oder in ein anderes Programm, findet keine Übertragung statt. Also in Adobe bewegen sich die Lippen noch aber nicht mehr in OBS. Hat jemand eine Idee an was das liegen kann?

I can't download some puppets, example projects, or any of the resources listed in CH. I keep getting an error message advising something went wrong. I can download some puppets but not all. known of the example projects or resources. Can anyone help with this? It would be greatly appreciated!  

Hello everybody!The bug I found is this:Suddently, my Mercury Transmit Syphon started to generate more than one Scene in Syphon Client (OBS for example, but I also checked on Syphon Client official App to read it), as soon as I change Scenes in Character Animator, and that thing creates a huge problem, because if I´m transmitting something in OBS that have a Syphon Source with my Character Animator Scene, what happens is that the transmission freezes as soon as I change Scene in Character Animator, because Character Animator creates another Scene in Syphon transmission. And even if you return in Character Animator to the previous Scene, it don´t change to the previous Syphon Scene, it just creates another Syphon Scene.And this problem never happened before, I mean, I could change whenever I wanted Scenes in Character Animator, and Syphon Scene was only one, it never generated duplicated ones. So I could be in OBS, in a specific Syphon Source that had the Character Animator Scene, and t

Hi there, my recording while dragging arms or legs goes to slow coz requires more attention. In the end the recording goes huge over the rest.Is there a way to bend  that recording between 2 seconds or 10, not like a cut, same actions but faster or slower? I know the recording speed option, useful but it's hard to predict the end.

Hi there,I recently built a custom character using an OK Samurai Illustrator puppet tutorial, everything was working great, the puppet was responding to my face properly.  I wanted to do head turns next, so i followed the head turn and paralax video tutorial (using the puppet i had built from the previous tutorial) and by the end of the video, my whole character started to get buggy eg. the head started floating off the body, the head turns would cause the facial features to squish together, the pupils started to warp and the body doesn't sway anymore. Could someone give me a hand? Regards, Eph

I have computed lip sync from scene audio and trancript with the proper format and files, and visemes are produced, but no physcial mouth shapes appear at all. I am on version 23.6 Mac OS.  I have tried with stock puppets and it works well. When I am using an imported puppet, the visemes are computed, but for the playback there are no mouth movements or shapes. The lip sync is armed. I have troubleshooted by disarming everything except lip sync, this still has not worked. I have re imported the puppet, and this still does not fix the problem. Computing 3 takes from scene audio works, but the results are very poor for the lip sync. Any advice would be greatly appreciated for troubleshooting. I am happy to send the file over for someone to help me take a look at.
