Opening a custom dialog (*.dre) in either FrameMaker 2019 or 2020, making changes, and then saving results in the dialog being sized much larger than it appears in the actual dre file. For example, opening FDK2019\samples\dialog\dialog.dre, making a change, and then saving, changes the dialog definition header as follows: beforedialog DIALOG LOADONCALL MOVEABLE DISCARDABLE 0, 0, 216, 154 afterdialog DIALOG LOADONCALL MOVEABLE DISCARDABLE -1, -1, 541, 386 The controls on the dialog are resized and moved and the font is changed from 8 "Tahoma" to 9 "Segoe UI". If you run a dialog (Esc d t) in 2019 or 2020 before any changes, it is displayed resized. So it looks like 2019/2020 are applying some scaling when saving/running a dre. Has anyone else come across this and got a work around? For the time being, I can edit the *.dlg file directly, so I can ensure the size of the dialog is correct. I will create a bug report when I have a bit of time.&nb

Env Windows 10 1909, FM 2019 15.0.5.838 (x64) My client has a process, coded in c++, to add line numbers to a structured document. I know... why! The line number has to be outside of the text frame, so it could not be a element, and the inbuilt line numbering was not customisable. The line numbers are required for legislative review. Another customer uses a similar process for the same reason. another process removes the line numbers. Recently after this process was run, sometimes the line numbers would not stick, that is not be there when the document was saved, and worse, other changes would also not stick. To cut to the chase (this has taken me many hours), the symptom is that after the process to add or remove line numbers was performed, when clicking the X to close the document, FrameMaker displayed a Save File dialog, even although the document had been saved by the code. HI All,I'm running FM2020 on a Windows 10 system.My 4-page file (a brochure) includes some text (Fonts: kelson/assistant/etc) and graphics with transparencies.Due to this latest FM version, I can finally, easily create a matching PDF with the transparent graphics coming out nicely on a colored background.Now my problem is that I can either get all the graphics right or all the text right, but apparently, not both.I use the "Publish" to PDF option or the Save as PDF option - each time with a different pre-defined or edited joboption:     *   When I use the Standard job option (or variation thereof) - the text comes out fine, but the graphic transparencies are lost and I get a white background.  *   When I use the High Quality Print job option - the figures come out fine, but the text (some of the bulleted lines with "Assistant" text come out squished or even misplaced - it's very weird.How do I combine both of these into a single job option?

I have a really strange situation. I have an ExtendScript that works on all but one document. They all have the same template, same tags, same layout, etc. I'm using unstructured FM 2019 in Windows 10 on a PC. Has anyone run into something like this before? Is there something in FM that I should be looking for that would cause this? I don't see anything different, there shouldn't be anything different, but evidently there is. It's very frustrating. 

Has anyone heard of anything called Gnarrgutts it's a cartoon was to be on YouTube but got changed to addobe creative cloud/discover this is all I know that and my father is doing one or more of the voices in this production and I would love to watch this for myself and my dad can anyone help me get there and watch this you can reach  me at [info redacted by moderator] I am Michael thanks a lot for any and all help I await any response ok

I had used it to communicate between an ExtendScript and an AHK script.

Is there a good tutorial for beginners of ExtendScript on FrameMaker. I was assigned to write some code and I'm really nervous because I have no experience with scripting. I have little experience in C++ and javascript. How can I go about learning how to code fairly quickly? Thank you so much. 

Hello guys, Do I always have to create a different format for the first number (1) and letter (a) different from the seconds?Ex: a:\t(<a=1>)\t      I have created this one to have (a)a:\t(<a+>)\t        I have created this one to have (b) When I have to update the style I need to change both, I was wondering if there is an automatic way so I can update them at once? Thank you 🙂

 Hello guys, I am working on a standard format for an unstructured documentation package. I was wondering if there is a faster way to change the format of headings without having to go over each one. Every time there is a change I have to go over each.I have copied the format and I am pasting it on each of the headings.   I thought it could be faster if I could use the find/change, is it possible to search to a specific format such as \t<$chapnum>.<n+>\t? Any other suggestions? Thank you.

I am using FM2019 on Windows 10.  From FM, I am publishing to Responsive HTML5 in the FILE > PUBLISH menu.  When I try to save / save as / save and close the settings, I get an "Access Denied" message.  I have admin rights on the machine and nothing has changed (so far as I know) between the last time I could edit the file and now that I cannot. Any idea what is causing this and how I can fix it?

I searched but couldn't find a similar post, or the structured framemaker forum that I used to visit, so.... I'm looking into what it would take to convert existing unstructured fm documentation into DITA files. I know how to use DITA, as my previous company used it for most of their documents, so I'm comfortable creating templates and new documents, working with the EDD, etc., What are the broad steps for converting existing documentation into DITA files, and where should I look for detailed information?  Our files do use styles consistently, and it is clear to me which sections should become task/concept/reference files, but currently many of these are contained within the same .fm file.There is too much content to convert it all manually - I work on 1 product (out of 7 or so) and it has 1000pages of documentation. Thanks!

I have a FrameMaker 2019 document where some TOC links produced in the PDF go to a different page number than they are supposed to. Anyone have ideas?

Hello Folks,Can someone confirm that Framemaker 2015 can be connected to SharePoint 2013 without any issue?In addition, what are the requirements for the SharePoint server side?For example, when I try to connect Framemaker to SharePoint, I get the following error:"Framemaker could not connect to the repository. Good morning: I am helping a colleague with a large manual that was set up in FrameMaker a long time ago (i.e., may have strange formats that were never removed, but difficult to find). My problem: the last chapter of this book does have the page numbers set up correctly (i.e., p one of the chapter is 279), but the figure numbers do not (they start at 1)! It's an auto format,as I tried to update just the number (do it manually out of desperation).   I have been trying to manage the figure numbers using the numbering dialog in the book, or through paragraph format updates, or variables ... I cannot figure that out! Unfortunately, I cannot share the book with you. It's medical device proprietary. Thank you. I have published a PDF from FM book that uses the Lato Light font. The Lato Light font appears heavier than the regular Lato. When I query within Acrobat, it believes the font is LatoLight (all one word). Other google searching has indicated this is becuase my machine does not have the Lato Light font installed or its not set to use local fonts, etc.None of these work,I also have this content in a Word document and it is published to pdf and the same Acrobat reader fine. I am also able to publish FM content to REsponsive HTML5 and the font is fine as well.Only when publishing FrameMaker to PDFdoes it come out looking like bolded Lato.I am about to uninstall all Lato fonts from my machine. Reboot. REinstall fonts and see what happens. But since Word to PDF and frameamker to HTML5 works fine and its only FrameMaker to PDF I assume it's a FrameMaker issue.Using FM 2020.  P.S. in my searching I found a few past posts about "light" fonts being of issue for FrameMaker pub

One of our elements (HowToInstructions) consists of a Table element, followed by a List element. When adding the HowToInstructions element to a structured document, the table anchor is placed on a new line, resulting in a blank line above the table.Below is an example of what it should like (from an unstructured document)Below is what we're getting when we add the element in a structured document:The HowToInstructions element is a child element of the preceding element (whichever that might be).Is there a way to remove/eliminate this extra line?

When I click the edit command of the layout setting file of Responsiv HTML5 from FrameMaker 2020 (16.0.2), the screen stops and becomes unresponsive.Reinstalling or uninstalling the old version does not help.Please let me know if there is a cause or remedy.* I was able to publish only.

Hello all, When I am editing a source file from my colleague, I found that the font type and setting of my Framemaker 2020 is different from the ones my colleague is using.  For example, my colleague's font type of all equations is Times New Roman but when I open my colleague's source file, the font type becomes something different.   May I know how I can ensure that when I open my colleague's source file, the setting of my Framemaker follows my colleague's one?Regards,Ed
