Dear allIt happened yesterday in the morning and was fixed in the evening.Today in the morning the same useless huge part of the Welcome screen:When I start Frame 2019, the Welcome Screen pops up then is replaced by a large graphic of what appears be the Resources section of the welcome screenWhat the heck is going on here?See also https://community.adobe.com/t5/framemaker/welcome-screen-on-start-up-framemaker-2019/m-p/11125651 andhttps://community.adobe.com/t5/framemaker/welcome-screen-on-start-up-framemaker-2019/m-p/11235052
Only one file is needed fr the pdf, the other is in a different folder.Admittedly it was an unwise thing to do, but it happens.
Hello Group!I would like to create a Paragraph Tag that will insert a special charater as an Autonumber Format? As an emaple, U\2776 displays the ❶. Is there a way to use the <n+> Building Block to auto increase the number without have to type each Unicode separately? What would be the code, if any to to accomplish this or am I overthinking it! Thank you! Sam
I am using the Current Date (Long) variable in my bookTitleTpl.fm template. However, the $monthname is always in English. Is there a way to have it in other languages as well. I can of course manually create it, but then it won't be following the current month.
So this has been covered before but i dont see any fix for the source files in Framemaker 2019? I have gone into File/File Info in Framemaker and cleared all the fields inc, Title. Completely blank. I click Set, update book and save all files etc. But, no luck. Title in PDF still displays "Template v4.12" that was locked in when the template was first created I'm guesing. Any ideas to fix? Its rather annoying. I dont want to keep editing the File/Properties/Description/Title in Acrobat.Boohooo.Martin

I'm using structured FrameMaker for DITA authoring. For PDF generation, I save the ditamap to a composite FM file and include it in an FM book. I generate TOC and index as I do for unstructured FM. The thing is, as recommended by DITA best practices, I put indexterms in the prolog, which is conditionalized in FM and should be hidden in the generated PDF. But if prolog is hidden, indexterms are hidden as well and no indexterm is included in the generated index! So how should I deal with indexterms? Include them in the body will work of course, but that is against most DITA best practices. Thank you!BTW, I use FrameMaker 10.
We have been asked to deliver our user documentation in a second language. Until now I've been producing our user documention all by myself (aka the editor). I have 1500+ pages in FM19, including hundreds of routine headers, tables and images, published as pdf and responsive HTML5. The documentation is updated for each product release (new functions, added error codes etc.) which happens many times each year. If I hand over the documentation files to a translator today, my original files will have many updates before the translator is finished, so the translated documentation will be out of date even before published. Ideally, I'd like to have one common set of files too keep the structure together. With two sets of files, one for each language, they will diverge over time. In addition, I don't feel confident in handing over the control to a hired translator. On the other hand, I don't want the huge work to copy and paste all translated text back to my FM files.&nbs
With the basic search command (with regular expression checked), I could able to find the instances where there is period followed by any word or number by the expression \.\w And with the expression \.\u I could able to find period followed by an upper case letter (preferred) without space in between. But in the replace window if I give \.\s\u it doesn't work. It replaces the capital letter with the letter 'u'.I suppose if I write a extendscript it may work. OrIs there a way to add the expression \.\u for the auto spell check to find, thus a red squiggle will appear on these instances?
Hi there, when I'm publishing (FrameMaker 2019, 15.0.5.838) a html5 help from an fm-book, the produced css-file always lists both the "old fm-formats" (which I changed/allocated in the sts-file) and the new formats for web publishing. So that there are always many duplicates (errors in the css), see example. If I clean up the tags and re-import the (cleaned) css file into the sts, save the sts --> the next publishing export will again have the duplicates!Where/how can I force the sts-file to only use my cleaned, imported css and not to publish the old (imported fm-)styles together with the new styles (allocated in the sts)? Example with duplicate styles:p.FM_Text {margin-left:14.173pt;margin-right:0.000pt;text-align:left;text-indent:0.000pt;margin-top:0.000pt;margin-bottom:4.000pt;word-spacing:0.250em;font-family:"Rotis Sans Serif W1G";font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;font-size:11.0pt;color:black;background-color:none;text-decoration:none;letter-spacing:0.00em;margin:0pt 0pt 1
Hi, I have created an online-Book with RoboHelp 10 and Framemaker 11 (TCS 4)which doesn't work correctly with new MS-Edge Browser (2020). Some funcitions aren't working. So the navigation snd search-function don't appear.Has someone an answer why its like this? Perhaps because MS-Edge Browser demand HTML5?In Windows and Firefox there isn't this problem. If I use in Edge the option: another Tools/ 'the 'Sites in Explorer Mode' than it works again.Has someone an idea?
Installing FM19 took weeks, with lots of exchanges between our local IT support and Adobe: I felt it shouldn't have. Now I'm daringly trying to install the latest upgrade, and two things I remember from the original FM19 install are as bad as they ever were. Thing the first, the download speed is impossibly slow; after about fifteen minutes the progress bar shows around 6% and the promise '16 to 18 minutes to go' … and stays there. I cancelled after a couple of hours. Thing the second, an error message at the start about a conflict between FM and the Character Map application, when then app isn't even open. Solved this one by launching the upgrader, opening the app myself and closing the app again.Next move, ask local IT support to download the upgrader for me: but why should I need to do this?
This is at least an annoyance - because I'm not certain about the consequences:In the book window, with SHIFT held while selecting File I get options to Savel All files, open All files etc.I have noticed that just before the operation is performed, the selection of the book components is not complete:Fortunately it turns out that all book components had been saved (time stamp checked), although the last two are not selected in the book file. But the incomplete selection makes one suspicious.Klaus
I've just upgraded to 2019 from 2012. I work in an environment whereAn author writes the first several drafts of a fiction manuscript in FrameMaker.Once done, the FM document is ported over into Microsoft Word so that the editing team and beta readers can collaborate during this process.Once this process is complete, the document is ported back in FM for typesetting and publishing. We're dealing with fiction manuscripts holding close to 300,000 words each. These are non-XML documents. In Microsoft Word, each chapter lives in its own section. We've upgraded to 2019 to leverage the import function that would allow us to bring a document from Word into Framemaker. From the preliminary exploration, the expanded import feature maps Word paragraph and character styles to FrameMaker's which is great. However, I do not believe that this import function can map each chapter in Word to a document included in the book. The alternatives would be to import the word document into FrameMaker andKeep it
[FYI, using the latest Frame2019 and Word 2016 (desktop)/Word365(online) ] Normal workflow:Author in Frame.Export to PDF.Markup for review (import, or replicate where necessary, unaddressed comments/questions from earlier PDF).Shared review.Update in Frame based on review comments.Back to step 2. Group of SMEs are (thankfully) willing to dive into large-scale revamping of very technical section of document (inherited from earlier development group and writer).HOWEVER... they insist on using Word so that they can edit (including large-scale addition, deletion, and moving of content) and comment. I've tried getting them to mark up in PDF and they're not going for it. I have no stick to wield 😞 So... this is how I did the adjusted workflow:Normal workflow:Author in Frame.Export to PDF.In Acrobat, Export to Word.Markup for review (Import, or replicate where necessary, unaddressed comments/questions from earlier PDF Word doc).[edit: Oh yes... the *really* fun part. So
When I download / Save As, a pdf file from Chrome or a website, and when I type in the file name, I get random letters and numbers when typing the name. for example, I will type Test, but it comes out 4!#h, I just made up the 4 characters.I have no idea how to fix this. As a work-around, once saved (with a bizarre name), I go to the file and Rename.I'm using Adobe Reader DC
I am working in DITA 1.3. How do I change the font size in the title of the DITA 1.3 Task?
Ladies & Gents,I see some older posts on fonts and I'm looking for some updated guidance! Are there better/cheaper subsitutions for Dapf Zingbats & Helvetica fonts or should I purchase? What do you professionals use when you need to use special charactors like a pointy finger, airplane symbols, or arrows ➣ ?I'm just looking for some tips from the pros!Thank you!Sam
We've recently upgraded to MF2019 (64-bit) from FM2017. Whenever we open a FM2017 document in FM2019, none of the graphics are displayed. We are on v 15.0.5.383 (our IT is yet to install Update 6).All graphics are added by referenced using a mapped drive.
Friends,When discribing features of FM, I have the habit to test it after describing how it (schoul) work. As an engineer I often do not trust the written information - hence I stumble over faults, which probably have been introduced after the feature was first introduced. This happens again with the feature "Associate template with a book-folder".I have filed bug report FRMAKER-8923 stating:Problem Description:Book folder-template: function is brokenSteps to Reproduce:- Use the files in the attached ZIP to verify:- Open example.book and check:Actual Result:- The folder name is appended with the path of the template- The text inserted by variable Chapter Title Name is not the folder name (Appendix) but the template file name (folder-template.fm)Expected Result:According to help the variable <$chaptertitlename> contains the name of the folder (Appendix). In the bug-base I have added a ZIP with the example book. I have no desire to create a MIF of all files and then test t
Friends,I have absolutely no success publishing anything but PDF via the publish panel (and simple HTML via Save as HTML):Trying to create (with default settings) Basic HTML, MS HTML Help, EPub or Responsive HTML5 I get a progress dialogue, which disappears after about 5 seconds and FM quits. In the temp folder I find an 'extended' copy of the sts file (which de facto is a ZIP) as a folder. Every attempt creates such a folder.Trying Kindle I get the message "KindeGen executable was not found...". On OK I get a link "Go to KindeGen Download Page" - which does not exist. I get error 404 in the browser. Each attempt leaves the *.lck file and I have now restarted FM multiple times, also with fresch %appdata%.Even Windows restart does not help.Since ZIP can not be attached here (shame!) helpful souls need to rename the attached xxx.zip.bmp to xxx.zip for tests.Kruzitürken, der attach geht auch nicht → https://daube.ch/zz_tests/Open-Issues.zip
The name says it all. Any way I can stop using the Task Manager to manage Framemaker?
I am trying to create a document that follows 11.11.1.122.12.1.1H:Module: <$chapnum>< =0>< =0>< =0>< =0>< =0> (Using this number format )for the main content in the book (This is working and works exactly as needed)Then for appendices, I would like to use letters for each appendix section ABCI have it set to number as suchG:Appendix: <A+> -< =0>< =0>< =0>< =0>< =0> (mimics the chapter numbering)With this each new appendix section starts at A instead of A, B, C etc. How can I manipulate the format so that it numbers as desired? The overall numbering/ TOC would follow:Ch 1, Ch2,...Ch 10, Appendix A, Appendix B, Appendix CThank you for any assistance
Hi Everyone, I need some help. I have a file that I am placing into one folder but it is attached to another folder. Trying to research it how to fix, it says to change the directory for the template by customizing the marker.ini settings. I do not know where to find this. Here is what I am seeing. How do I change/fix this? Thanks, Eddie66
I have the 2019 release of FrameMaker, updated to the latest version, my colleagues have the 2015 version of the software. I saved the files in the mif 7.0 format, so that their program can read it, but when they open the documents, FM does not display or recognize a bunch of characters (accented letters, ñ, bullet points, etc.) even though they are in the same language and font. The only way we have found to resolve the issue has been to search and replace all the characters that were not recognized (as they were replaced by a "?" character), because it was an urgent matter, but I'm hoping to solve it for good.Attached are a screeshot of the error, and a screenshot of the problem in the opened file by the earlier version of the program.
