FrameMaker

I have a structured framemaker document which is comprised of several other documents (source files). In my main document under the name of the chapter the spacing after the first line of the first paragraph is bigger than set by the formatting style. This problem seems to be recurring for the first paragraph of each highest level chapter. Inside of the source file the lines are spaced correctly. I check the formatting of my main document and the source file and they seem to be matching, so I assume it is a problem with the main document, but I cannot figure what could be wrong. See the attached pictures for more clarity. Moreover, there are cases when this spacing issue does not occur, this is also shown in an attached picture.  

ALL of my table and figure elements in the DITA XML documents include <title>Title Name</title> elements. On conversion, random titles are blank. Once in a while, after complete shutdown and reboot, All of the titles get included but it is not consistent. Subsequent conversions will randomly miss table titles and never the same ones.

I have one part of a generated book, Appendicies, that the pagination template as defined should restart the page numbering. The first appendix, Appendix A, continues from the previous book chapter. The subsequant appendixes, B through O, do restart at 1. All templates in the book are define for Double-sided, Delete extra pages. Refresh book doesn't correct issue. Master pages are assigned in Reference page Structured Master Page Element table definition and work properly with Refresh. Ony thing thats corrects is a manual right-click > Numbering > Select radio button to First Page (only appendix with "Continue Numbering" as default (UGH!)) and resetting page to start at 1. Painful.

I have examined all of the FrameMaker book template Master pages in detail. The Frontmatter.Tpl has 3 master pages. When the book is generated from XML, the "cover" page in the frontmatter contains 9 master pages. and the header font size is 11pt. NOWHERE in any of the book templates is there a template with 9 pages or a header with 11pt font. Where can the cover.fm document be getting that information?

Hello,In FM, I have noticed a problem of hyphenation, where there is an empty space after the " - ", like here (see blue arrow). Why ? 

Using FrameMaker  2019 and it crashes when i Apply Book Element to Untitled Book. 

I found a thread on this and went to this site... http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2011/07/create-a-book-packager-using-extendscript.html  But....I am still unsure on how to use it. I see I have extenscript in our CS5 suite. But I don't see an archive script. Thanks for the help! ls

I was asked to update a FrameMaker 10 document but had no access to the original author or any information about the existing book. I have done so, but now many images and other elements are no longer needed and it is not clear how I can separate them out. Many other media applications offer the option to save a copy of an entire work and all of the elements it uses to a separate location, thus copying only those items that are actually used and leaving behind those that are obsoleted. Is there a way to do this in FM10? I can't find one.thanks!Larry the O

I have a button that copies the content of a caption to clipboard with the below code. const element = document.getElementById("txtCaption");let text = element.getAttribute("aria-label");alert(text);navigator.clipboard.writeText(text); This works fines in project preview but does not work in Live Preview and poublished output. The issue is with the last line. Can anyony help please?  

Many years ago I was excited when Adobe acquired Buzzword, but it seems to have been deprecated. I am a Mac user at home, and would love to be able to use Frame natively. I know, I know. Is there any thought to putting Frame in the cloud as an editor? Or Frame light? Making it platform agnostic and available in a browswer would be phenomenal. Maybe run AI across the code base and upgrade the IDE?

I am working with older documents that have invalid elements. I was hoping there might be a way to change them in bulk rather than manually editing each element. I have a conversion table of the invalid elements and their current elements for a translation but no real way to push these updates through the full doc.  I know there is the scripting function in FrameMaker but since I've never coded in Java I'd be starting from scratch and would need help with that if anyone can point me in the right direction. 

Our developers have highlighted that content in our documentation with subscripts (for example - for the term tSTAB_DB - where "STAB_DB" is subscript) containing underscores is breaking across two lines.For example "tstab_db" breaks at the underscore and appears on 2 lines as if a carriage return were present (when copied with formatting and pasted).Also, these terms are not searchable in a PDF. Searches for complete terms are inconsistent. You can search on "tstab" but not for "tstab_db". How should this content be entered into FM so that this does not happen when accessing the content in a PDF?

Hi,I'm debugging a government structured template where the sections' title elements are never kept with the next para. The EDD's text format rules for the "Rubrik" element look like this:In all contexts. Use paragraph format: fontSansSerif If context is: * < Datamodul[Sprak = "Eng"] Default font properties Language: UK English Else Default font properties Language: Svenska In all contexts. Pagination properties Keep with next: Yes Placement: Across all columns and side heads This should indeed keep the title element with the next para, shouldn't it? Any hints? Mats

Hi, With FrameMaker 2022 (v17), when editing a 750 pages document converted from a previous release, I have 2 problems:   1) At start, it says "At least one original filter used for graphics is not available......" How can I find what graphic is missing or bad?   2) Regularly, Frame hangs for 30s. It's very disruptive, how can I find why and remedy to it? I use an Intel 24 core, a GEN4 NVME SSD and 128GB  memory, so resources are not the problem.   Thanks in advance for any help.

I am very new to scripts, and I just have a ponctual need.I have a document using fonts no longer available.I would like to run a script that will change the definition of all paragraphs using for example the "xxx1" font to "xxx2".That must be pretty easy, but some help would save me a lot of time learning how to write scripts. I don't know the ExtendScript language.Thanks.

Hello, I have a Word file made from a conversion : Word has converted a PDF file in text. I have done this :1) I copy a one page text from Word.2) In FM I do "special paste" + I select "text"  :  3) in FM I do File / Save as PDF. Problem : the saved PDF has 600 KB file size. Why is it so big for a single page of text ?

I set up right-hand and left-hand custom master pages for my document and added them to the UnstructMasterPageMaps reference table as the right-handed and left-handed page for when the relevant paragraph tag is used.  Then I saved, applied the master pages, and hoped for the best... Well, the master pages don't appear to be applying as-intended.  While the apply function did update on my first test page (a left-hand page), typing to the end of the page and carrying over adds a new standard Right page and then one of my custom left-hand pages to continue the text flow, rather than continuing the text flow on the right-hand custom page I entered in the reference table.  Both text frames in my custom master pages have tag "B" and autoconnect checked. If I force it to have a left-hand custom page and start typing on that, the text overflow on that will start a new left-hand version of the custom page rather than a right-hand one to follow. The pagination of th

Our corporate style guide specifies the Roboto font, which is a variable font. Are there any near-term plans for FrameMaker to support variable fonts?

 I used a registered character in superscript in my headings, but the TOC and Running H/F are not recognizing it. Please suggest solution. 

Hello,Can anyone help me please?I create my technical document in FrameMaker, and the team gives me their documents in Microsoft word.  The word document as text and equations and once brought into FrameMaker, the equations are not displayed nicely in order to use the FrameMaker Equation palette.  Can you let me know how can the Microsoft word document come through into FrameMaker with not a lot of errors, as my team does not like to reproof, once I format the word document presentably in FrameMaker?How the above makes sense.  Thank you.

I'm converting DITA XML bookmaps into Structured FrameMaker books. At this point it is easier for me to use the FrameMaker EDD and Paragraph Designer to produce the desired format in PDF and not use another DITA-OT method. My douments periodically include published changes (CHG1, CHG2 ...). I have generated the change bars for the desired elements that appear on the page as well as their citing in a auto generated TOC, LOT and LOF. When the changes appear on the page I have also been able to automatically update the document master page headers on pages that include the paragraphs with change bars using the Reference Page. All using present FrameMaker features (FrameMaker 2022, v17.0.4) Can anyone share how to also automatically change the TOC, LOF and LOT master pages depending on a changed title element? Hi, I have a TextLoc problem. Sorry, when this is to basic for some of you. I have a paragraph with text. My script does this: 1 Applies a condition to this text. 2 Adds new text after this text. 3 Then applies another condition to the new text. I do not know, how I can remember the offset of the TextLoc at the end of the text after step 1. I use Constants.FV_OBJ_END_OFFSET-1 for this TextLoc. However, when I add the text, the offset is still at the end of the paragraph and not at the end of the first text. When I store the offset in another variable, it's always at the end of this paragraph. Is there another way to to count the offset? Or do I have to use TextItems with GetText and somehow calculate the single text items? This snippet illustrates what I mean. "789" should be inserted after "123".
