FrameMaker

I have a four-page chapter in a book I'm working on. This book applies to seven different products, so I have conditional text for each of those. There are quite a few product-specific tables in the manual, so if you are viewing the conditional text for all products at once, my little 4-page chapter becomes a 22-page chapter. Everything was worked fine until today, when I had to create a new "NarrowMargin" master page to accomodate a 16-column table that needs to be there for five of the products. I specified that page 4 of the body pages should use the NarrowMargin master page. Page 4 looks good. However, if I'm viewing the document for only one product (i.e., I've hidden the conditional text for all other products), I now I have 18 blank pages following page 4. I can delete those pages easily enough (Format > Document > Delete Pages) but they come back as soon as I switch to view the conditional text for a different product. I hope that makes sense. Hi All,I am trying HTML5 outputs in FM2019.My Mini-TOC looks great in PDF but not satisfactory in HMTL5. Where is the setting that allows me to set the text colour, font, dot leader, underline etc. for Mini-TOC in HTML5? Hi All, I have a structured FrameMaker document the wraps Table Continuation variables in a <table-continued> element. When I save the individual document to XML, the element is correctly closed: However, if this document is part of a book and save the book as XML, the element is not correctly closed and the XML parser reports an error. Any ideas why I am getting this behavior? I am trying to set up headers and footers in a new document, and I want to have a single line above the text in the footer.Here is a master-page view of the footer without the line: Here's what it looks like when I click to add a single line in the frame above the paragraph (using the paragraph designer). Out of curiosity, I clicked to add a double line above the footer and got this:(The vertical line in the middle of each image is my cursor.)Does anyone know what might be going on here? This worked fine in the header (when I used the paragraph designer to add a single line below the text).Thanks! UPDATE: I realized after posting that, if I scroll down and back up, the footer text appears on the page. The extra line is still there, though. Here's what it looks like when I've added a single line above the text:

I create a workspace, I save it. After a few days, the workspace disappears - including the worksapce I saved. Again, this is AFTER SAVING the workspace. There is nothing that I know that i am doing that is causing this. Any ideas? 

I was able to connect to our SharePoint repository and use the Check out and Open feaure. But, when I save the document and try to check it in, the check in option is greyed out. (Cancel checkout is also greyed out.)

Hey everyone! I'm having issues with my TOC that's being generated. It's three pages long, and the first two look just fine. However as you can see below, the third page is just not right and we can't figure out what's going on/what's causing this. We've tried regenerating, deleting and creating a new one, and replacing the file with a different working TOC, but nothing works. Also, if you delete a line from the second page (bringing up a line from the third page), it formats that line correctly if that makes sense, so we know it has to be something that's wrong with the third page itself and not specifically the content on that page. Anyone have any ideas??  

We recently upgraded to FrameMaker 2019. I create chapters that can be several pages long, however, I frequently need to create PDFs for only a portion of that chapter and I need to name that section according to the heading. For example, I have a 20-page chapter and need to create a review PDF for pages 10-12 and name that output Widgets Counters. The name of the Frame file is Widgets. How do I do this? So far I've seen videos and posts on using the Publish feature which would be great if I needed to publish the whole chapter quickly, but we frequently need to send sections of the chapters out for review. We've been using FrameMaker since about 2003 and have always been able to use File > Save as PDF, enter the File Name, click Save, and then select the page range in the PDF Setup dialog. How can I do something similar to this? Cleaning the output up (i.e. deleting the pages that don't need to be reviewed) in Acrobat Pro is a cumbersome workaround.  Thanks! Ken

Hello,I'm trying to add some space between the title and pagenumber in my TOC but it just won't work. If I look in the reference pages, it to me seem correct. <$paranumonly> <$elemtextonly>...................... <$pagenum><$paranumonly> <$elemtextonly>....................... <$pagenum><$paranumonly> <$elemtextonly>....................... <$pagenum> However, it looks like this:3 Konstruktion och Funktion 33.1 Radiolänkenhet 3Anslutningar 43.2 Antenner 4 Is this not correct as there are already tab stops in the reference pages? Just can't get this document to work.There was no need to add tab stops to the reference pages as it was created by FM in the setup of the TOC. There seem to be different tab stops in the reference pages and the body pages so is this correct? I tried adding another tab but no matter how I try it'll only add space between the title number and title. Thanks!

I have a document that I imported into FrameMaker with images. The images in the Word document are perfectly clear but are hardly visible in FrameMaker Document. I have not tried printing these yet however, I am skepitcal when they look so degraded in the document. I have always gine by the garbage in garbage out philosophy but this seems backwards..   

I need to revise my texts about FrameMaker. In the area of Graphic Tools there were multiple changes over the past FM versions. For example this, for which I do not find any explanation ...For Overprint there are three methods to choose from: Knock Out, OverPrint and From Color.What does the method From Color do and how do I handle this method? We do not have an Apply button any more. 

In my text about FrameMaker I want to indicate when a particular feature was introduced. Hence I creaated a number of ico files with Axialis Icon Workshop. The Icon files contain icons in the usual sizes (256x256 RGB/A, 48x48 - RGB/A … 16x16 - 256).Importing such an ico file into an anchored frame does not work in all cases:file → Import Dialogue Pixel sizefmaker-08.ico → 48w by 48h → OKand so on untilfmaker-15.ico → 16w by 16w → Not OKIn this ico file there was an (unwanted) format 16x16 - 16. After removing this format the file was imported as the others.An experiment with only the formats 256x256 RGB/A, 48x48 - RGB/A in the file imported with 256w by 256h …For my tests I used the same frame for all icon file, just selected the image and imported with replace. After the replacement in most cases the image was not updated and was also not updated with CTRL+L. I needed to move the image within the frame for a display update. With Undo then I got the image back at the correct location.I

Hi All Would like to know if any of you are using U3D/PRC/STEP/BREP or other similar formats in your technical content?.    If yes, are you currently generating HTML output as well of the same and what are some of the challenges there. PDF output does support U3D content but how do you take care on HTML side for these 3D content.   Thanks Amitoj Singh    

Recent install on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. I'm getting "?" renderings for some Unicode code points, in this case the font is Libertinus Serif (OpenType). The points are clearly populated in the font (confirmed by system Character Map). Examples: \u25a1 (□) works.\u2611 (☑) goes to ? in FMI'm doing these as variables, and when entered as \u notation in the dialog, FM dutifully converts them to the actual Unicode glyph, so the codepoint is being preserved, and FM's internal dialog font knows what it is supposed to be.   The two test code points above work correctly in FM if the font is Segoe UI Symbol. They appear to work correctly in either font in LibreOffice Writer. MS WordPad, interestingly, for Libertinus Serif, overrides them both to Segoe UI Symbol, at the same code points. So, it could be a font issue.   Separately, I am was unable to use FM's Insert > Character > Hex Input or > Character Palette tool to explore this problem, because both dialogs winked out after

The option to delete the log file after successful PDF is selected, but the log file is never deleted. It's really getting annoying having to remember to manually delete it all the time.  

Hi All, I have 100 pages of Chapter File with 2 Master Pages, Master 8x11 & Master 11x17.Both Master Pages are assigned througout the Chapter at random. Now at Page 50, I want to insert a New Page (with Master 8x11).Is there a way to insert a new page with new content and Push all existing pages down with existing as is??? Hope this is clear.

Hi All, I have a document with 10 pages, they are all 11x17 inches.Page # 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 has 2 Columns Master Page.Page # 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 has 1 Column Master Page. Now I want to insert a new page (Page #1) and make it as a 1 Column Master Page.But if I insert a new page, all my content from exiting page 1 to 10 will shift to page 2 to 11. This willl also display 2 column info on 1 column and 1 conlumn info on 2 column.I hope you understand my dilemma. This is kind of complex for me to describe but can any one help me find a solution for this.Thank you.    

Hello and Happy New Year! I'm working on a document that has a lot of instances of "greater than/less than or equal to" symbols. From what I can figure out, there are two ways to do these in FrameMaker 1) Ctrl+q # / Ctrl+q 32) Alt+0163 / Alt+0179 Neither of these are working for me. Both sets result in symbols, but not the symbols I'm looking for.I can't find either of these symbols on the character palette. It's possible that they're there, but my aging eyes can't see the small type. If someone can tell me where they're located there, I would appreciate it. Ideally, I'd like to know what, if any, combination of keys I can type to get these two symbols.I am in FrameMaker 15, using Windows 10. Thanks!

I'm new to FrameMaker, so I might be doing something wrong.Rather consistintly, any time I try deleting / adding / changing more than a page or two of text at a time, FrameMaker hangs, and usually crashes. (Other times I just let it continue trying overnight, and then kill the process). Sometimes I can go as long as 2-3 days without it crashing. Importing a document from MS Word into FrameMaker took 5-6 attempts till it was stable for long enough to actually convert the entire document before crashing, giving me a chance to save.Similar posts on crashes didn't seem to have resolutions on them. OS: Windows 10 (Corporate IT managed for updates)FM: 2019 15.0.1.430 

Hello FM community,What I'm going to describe I've done for many years. And for some reason, it just stopped working.Using FM2019 unstructured. My only desired output is PDF.I am, as I've always done, setting up my TOC in the references pages. My format is likeso:<$paranum> <$paratext> <$pagenum>.This has worked forever. Suddenly, I can't get it to work and I'm going blink trying to figure this out.The only odd thing I have is I have 24 books that must be cross-referenced. So per other entries in this forum, I make certain that all 24 book files are in the same folder. Then my individual book source files are each in their own subdirectory. This was working fine with the first several books I created. The cross-references work. The TOC is generated just the way I want. And now....the TOC simply won't generate. The only time it generates is on the initial Update TOC when you first setup which heading tags are included. But after that....I cannot get it to do

I need to use the warning triangle symbol as an icon for warnings in my document.  It displays and prints fine, but it doesn't have the yellow background color.  In Frame and in PDF it displays with a clear/transparent background.  In HTML5, though, it displays with the yellow background as it should. Is there a way to make the triangle display with a yellow background in the PDF as well? ⚠ 

Hello,   Somes users of my company are encountering a curious bug in Conditionnal Texts.   All conditionnal texts were working perfectly in FM2017, but now they won't works properly in 2019. We can show up them but can set them as we want, and if we want to create some news, we can't manage them too.   Can someone help us ?
