FrameMaker

HiI get this error when I update my book which was saved as "book 2019 with fm components" from a ditamap. I have topics and tasks in my map. If I use only topics or only tasks, I don't get the error.I opened the Conditional tags -Pod and I see that for tasks domain-ui-d is red. For some reason if I create a task and I don't add any content, I just save it, close and open it, it turns red.Because I don't get an error if I use only tasks I guess that the problem is that this same conditional tag is red for task and black for topic.My question is, why those have different colors and how that could be changed?

I have TCS 2017 installed and downloaded and installed the TCS 2019 trial early last week. Today I discovered that Adobe Acrobat 2017 Pro limits its trial period to seven (7) days when it's installed as part of the Technical Communications Suite 2019 30-day trial. I had been focused on testing RoboHelp for the past week and when I went to launch Acrobat today it showed I am at 0 days remaining and need to buy a license to continue.Does anyone know what impact hitting 0 days will have on Acrobat: Will this only limit me to the features of the previous version of Acrobat 2017 that I had with TCS 2017, or will it render Acrobat completely unusable? Will I have to uninstall all of TCS 2019 to revert to my TCS 2017 version of Acrobat?Thanks in advance,Alan

Hi,we need to deploy numerous installations of Framemaker 2017 (32bit) on Windows 10 64bit systems. However, the 32bit package created by the Cloud Packager won't successfully install on 64bit systems, as it seems: In all installation tasks FM is missing in the final installation, only the Cloud Software gets installed. This problem does not exist when we install the 64bit version of Framemaker 2017. However, this is currently not an option due to workflow constraints with another software product we use.The question to get around this bug is: Which reg-Keys must be set to make the installation being "registered" and avoid that the user is presented the EULA form at the first launch? I don't mind that the Software talks "home" since we DO have have the licenses. 🙂best regardsOlaf

Any hints on how to stop FrameMaker 17 from constantly crashing?I have used many prior versions of FrameMaker and have never experienced this. This version seems to be poor at best.

Our books use some custom TrueType fonts. I have installed them (and deleted them, and reinstalled them, and rebooted, repeatedly) but Frame says it can't find them. More specifically, it can find the base font (MetricNEW) but none of the flavors (bold, italic, light, semibold, et al.). Word is able to bold/italicize them, though it also only shows the base name. Not sure whether that's normal for Word or not.When I open one of the chapters, I get the warning about unavailable fonts and substitution with Times New Roman. If I then go into the Paragraph Designer, the list of fonts shows the base font and a couple of the flavors, with the flavors greyed out. The base DOES work. I'm guessing that it's only showing the two flavors because they're the only ones called out by the book.One of my colleagues can open the books fine; he also hasAny guesses as to what's going on? My A flow uses a side head column to add white space to the left.  Text and figures display in the main column on the right.  However, some of my images are vertical and narrow, so they would be well-suited for placing in the side head section.  I can place them there easy enough, but I run into problems when I try to put the figure's caption beneath it in the side head.  Text wants to flow from the main A column, to the caption's text frame, and back again to the main frame.  This is bad for a number of reasons.Is there a best practice for doing this?  One that accommodates auto-numbering?Thanks!Doug

For tables that span across multiple pages ... does anybody know how to reverse the behavior of the Table Continuation variable such that the "continued" text appears on the first page (and subsequent pages) but NOT on the last page?Thanks,Ted

I have a dream re-use scenario to work with at the moment. I can see several ways to approach it, and wanted to check in with anyone who's done this before for advice.I am putting together a user guide and release notes for an adapter product. The product connects system A, B, or C to system 1, 2, 3, or 4. A customer only needs info the systems they are connecting between. This results in 12 user guides and 12 release notes (for system A-1, A-2... ...C-3, C-4)Current approach:The content has been created as DITA concepts, tasks, and references, and with separate versions of each DITA file for each relevant system. Common content is reused via conrefs to shared files.12 ditamaps connect these files as needed to create each variation of the user guide.This works, but I don't want to have to go through the publish process manually 12 times each time we do a software update. HiI'm a new user with FrameMaker. I'm still using the trial version and learning the basics.I'm trying to learn creating structured PDF manuals. I have created testing topics and tasks and used those in a bookmap (and ditamap). I have added the files with Insert child and Insert sibling commands. But when I view the published pdf the heading numbering goes as shown below.1. Heading 1     1.1 Subheading 1     1.1 Subheading 2     1.1 Subheading 32. Heading 2     2.1 Subheading 4     2.1 Subheading 5All the modules have the same kind of title (title.0) as my thinking model is that I cannot know if the module is used in the same level in all the manuals.Could someone give me a hint how to continue from here?

Hi groupI've got a ditamap with some 250 referenced SVG files. I am unable to Save Book as PDF in FM 2017.  I have noticed that now I am also unable to save certain documents of the book as PDF, but when I take those out, I still wind up with a non-responsive FM 2017.Windows 10.  Adobe PDF as default printer.

I may be getting the terms wrong, but I am wondering if it's possible to insert an element in the footer or a FrameMaker template. I would like if possible to have my document number pull from the ditamap, rather than having to manually override the the document number in the master page of my template file. Is it not possible to add a reference or a variable to the footer, then have it populate from content stored in the ditamap?

I have a FM2017  document with has a main text frame and a small text frame connected to the main frame.  If I insert this document as a text inset into another document, the text stops flowing into the small text frame.  All of my text stays in the main text frame inside the text inset.How do I fix this?Thanks,Doug

Years ago, using FrameMaker 7.2, saving a book file as HTML yielded every link and every graphic found in the book files. Am upgrading toward FM 2017, and saved the book as XML. Nothing but the main text flow appeared in the HTM file. Do I simply connect the text frames, or must I laboriously use a text editor to rebuild an HTM file from scratch? Am currently working with FrameMaker 11. But will soon be advancing to 12.

I am trying to update the TOC of my project, Framemaker is displaying an error. "It is using unavailable fonts". When i open FrameMaker for the first time, it shows Courier fonts as unavailable. I checked in the C drive of my laptop, all the fonts from Courier family are already copied there. Please provide me solution for this issue.

I am trying to apply a gotolink marker in my text to a word that has a specific character tag. A couple of months ago, frameexpert helped me with some code that applies the newlink marker to text in a specific paragraph format, and I thought I could just modify it (see below). But I'm obviously missing something because it just won't work. The marker needs to be added to the specific words, so that they are a link, rather than to the beginning of the paragraph, so I know I need to do something about the offset location. But first, I just need it to work. Any help would be much appreciated!
