FrameMaker

Hello everybody,I had several books translated by an agency and received the translated files back. I also provided the images directory for translation. None of the images is displayed in the translated files though, although the reference paths have remaines the same. Any kind of help is welcome!  

I've been trying to work out if it is possible to include some FM files in the PDF output (such as the front and back cover) but exclude them from the HTML5 output using conditions rather than right clicking on the TOC and selecting Exclude each time I publish. As far as I can tell conditions can only be used for parts of a file's contents, rather than the complete file, but as usual, I'm finding FM's help to be less than helpful so I'm not 100% confident on that. Does anyone know if there's a way to automate this for the specific output types?

I image yellow box is header which is creatde in master page with text feames and variable. Background page is also added. in mastre page when i go to body page is shows as bellow image footer is not shown,i dont added it  coz i dont want footerBut when i gererated pdf , it creates footer as shown in first image

Previously i am working on another device. where i created some .fm fies then i push them to one drive through zip and when i  logged in to another device  same file is opened but images are not apperaing.. instaed gray box is shown... who to change the path of all images in new document.... 

Hello. I need a script for structured documents that can find the first and last item element in a sequential list and set them to Keep with Previous. I know this can be controlled through the EDD, but our templates are provided by our customer and we are unfortunately prohibited from editing them. Getting them to fix it is like getting blood out of a turnip. My team wastes a lot of time trying to find widows and orphans and when one slips through, it typically means republishing to PDF from scratch. I need this to be an automated process. Does anyone know of a script that could perform this function for me? If this has already been answered in another thread, I'd be happy to be redirected there. Thanks in advance. Matt

Good afternoon, Trying to run a script and it says 'document is still loading'. Chatgbt says that when this happens it usually means the script is trying to run on the document before it’s fully initialized.I have put some delay code in, and same message.It is a blank Dita concept file.Any suggestions?Thank you,Vicki

10+ years ago, I used dzbatcher and other tools. Anything out there that's current? dzbatcher, dobatch, mif2go, etc. are dinosaurs that no longer support the latest Frame versions.

When I generate a HTML5 help, I  use topic sequences to scroll back and forth between the topics. The help project is quite large, i.e. it contains about 2400 A4 pages. When scrolling, the TOC entries do not match the currently displayed help topics. There is an offset between the topic order and the TOC order.Can anybody give me a hint how to avoid or how to solve this problem?

Hi! We would like to produce our CHM output directly in Framemaker. I worked on the development of the setting file (sts) until December 19. I was able to compile CHM output. After updating Framemaker 2022 from version 16 to 17, I can no longer generate CHM. All other outputs (HTML, Responsive, PDF etc.) work as usual. Even with the default settings I get no output.It doesn't matter whether I compile individual files or book files. No CHM is generated.The log gives this error message at the end:"Warning: the size of the stop file must be limited to 512 bytes."Is there a work around? Does anyone know the error?

We have been using PageBreak markers for many years both for the page break (marker text <Split>) and to suppress the page break (marker text <NoSplit>).It worked for the output with RH Classic.With the publish functions in FM 2022, all markers are interpreted as page breaks as soon as I activate them in the settings.Is there a modified syntax (or whatever) that I am not aware of to use the PageBreak marker <NoSplit>?

ok, this is a left field one. My FM file names do not contain n dashes, but my Heading 2s and Heading 3s do (e.g "Diesel Storage - Monthly Inspection). When I create the HTML5 output and split into topics based on Headings 1, 2 and 3 FM create HTML files using the heading wording (which includes n dashes). When I try to zip the HTML5 output I can't because it isn't happy about file names containing dashes. Hence no way to zip and send this info to people when I need to.Any workaround that doesn't involve recreating every heading wording would be greatly appreciated.

https://youtu.be/Ebowun9km4I?si=-fphI2dDPO8V2r3J I was able to follow video instructions, and create a custom template for a DITA Concept.So that when I open a new DITA concept file, it opens with the custom template.(copied DITA 1.3 XML Application from master xml list andpasted it in user Struc Apps:Structure>Application Definition>Edit Application Definitions'structapps.fm'Changed template path in 'structapps.fm'so that it goes to where my custom template is,when loading a new Concept file.'concept.template.fm' ) Issue is:I need more than 1 custom concept template, let's say 2 custom templates.The structapps.fm file being used with Concept sets the path for just 1 custom template.Is it possible to make more than 1 custom template for a Concept document? Or do you had to add all your customized options in that 1 custom template so that you have all your styling done to use with many Concept docs? I hope this is clear. Thank you,Vicki

I have a table in which I want to use the "keep with next row" feature. However, I am using DITA, and so the "keep with row" property that is nominally available with FM is not saved with the .DITA file. How do I do this? My attempt:I know how to modify my EDD files to define choices for outputclass attribute of a table row (i.e. create a new choice "keep with next row" so that the author can select this option when editing). I also know how to add context rules to the EDD to be able to change the style/formatting based on a particular choice of outputclass (i.e. so that the PDF rendering uses a different format/style). What I am not sure how to do is define a style/format for a table row that would "keep with next", because the "keep with next" property is not part of the Table designer.  Q1: Is my approach possible, and if so how would I do it? Q2: Is there another approach that would work and allow an author to "simply" select/indicate that a particular row shoul

GM, Can I view what output will be while working in my Concept DITA file?I want to be able to see what the formatting will look like, as I go.Or, do I have to do a style sheet for the Reference Pages first.I want to output to PDF as final goal, but would be nice to 'preview' along the way.Thank you,Vicki

I have a DITA Concept xml file.  I want to be able to change the font for a tag. In this case, my title element is Calibri 24 pt.  This must be the default. When I change it to Arial 14 pt and 'save' it, it doesn't save. I open it again, and it is the Calibri font.How can I get the styling or formatting that I want in DITA?Thank you,Vicki 

Hi, I would like to know whether there is an option to display the Marker Text for cross-referencing? Currently, I don't see marker text available in Building Blocks to create a custom format. I need to add cross-references to more than 200 instances in a FrameMaker book, but the tool is not allowing more than 100 custom formats to be added to the format list.NOTE: This topic was raised coouple of years back, but without any solution. Not sure whether features have been updated in the current version. I am using latest verison [FM 2022 V_17 (u4)].Any help or insights on this topic is appreciated. 

Hi, FrameMaker version 16 is not starting. the widnow shows up and after a few seconds it just goes away. I tried downloading the 2022 version as well, but that didn't start either. Recently I started working on Adobe Framemaker version 17.04.628 where in after opening the FM file made in earlier version 10.0.0-.388, I am not seeing any master page on body page in background. Here number of pages are seen as “-1” instead in actual it should show a total 13 pages in the file. When I print the file it shows verything good as if master page was there but in actual visualisation I can't see one.

Hi,   I want to work (as a remote self-employed contractor) with a company that has FM2019. I tested FM2022 and it can't save books in an FM2019 compatible format. (Sure, I could save each individual file as a mif, but with books that have 30 files in them, this is time consuming, and I'm not even sure if they can open the book, as that just gets saved with no options.)   I couldn't test FM2020, it wasn't an option. But I could buy it. obviously I don't want to buy it if it's not FM2019 compatible.  Does anyone know for sure that FM2020 can save books as FM2019 compatible?   Thanks for your help! Julie

How to change font of Document Index in FrameMaker? 

Structured FM (17.0.4.628)I have an Element with a text format rule that applies autonumbering. Is there a way to 'read' the autonumbering value and apply a suffix rule based on the value? E.g. if the autonumbering value is 1, 8, 15, apply the suffix "Alpha", if the autonumbering value is 2, 9, 26, apply the suffix "Beta", etc. Is this possible without the use of scripts?

I'm trying (with my very limited HTML abilities) to create a custom .css for my Responsive HTML5 output but at the moment, numbered lists are defeating me. If I select Convert to Text for my list style  then I get this in the HTML output. . If I select Convert to List then I get this in the HTML output . Essentially the same, except a bigger gap after the number in the list. My .css looks like this . If I change p.List1 to li.List1 then FM can no longer see the List1 style here . I'm hoping someone can tell me what I need to change in either my .css or the selections on the FM Publish Settings to sort this out.
