FrameMaker

I installed FrameMaker 2015 yesterday after purchasing a one-year subscription. When I try to start it, the FrameMaker box is visible but the product doesn't start. What do I need to do?

Is there any way to find out what the internal error numbers represent?  Currently we have FrameMaker 12.Lauren

Hi All -I am working on a large unstructured book in FM11. There are tons of figures (screen shots) residing in the Figure folder(s) that are no longer applicable and just taking up space.Is there a script or a way to weed out and gong unused screen shots?Any help would be appreciated.

i am trying to resolve some inconsistent color definition errorsi have used the File>Import>Colors which resolves a lot of thembut there is one i cant even display in a file that is complaining about itand I cant use view>color>definition to delete itsince the drop down does not scroll i cant get to what i expect is a more complete list of the colors for that fileThe Name: drop down has a scroll ARROW but clicking on it brings up the color at he arrow not more colors

Hi all,       If anyone has any ideas on this problem it would be gratefully received.  Occasionally, I am working on a document and a new "unexplained" indent appears on the left of the page which pushes all the paragraph tabs to the right.  There is no rhyme or reason as to when this happens or why it appears, but when it is there, I cannot get rid of it.  The paragraph markers (circled below) cannot be dragged to the left and there is no indication in master pages or any of the paragraphs tabs what the cause is.  It is very annoying, the only way I can get back to normal is creating a new document and starting again.  The grab below shows how far the indent is in when it appears.  This particular occurrence wass in FrameMaker 11 but I think it has happened before in earlier versions, however it is not a regular occurrence (4 /5 times in 5 years of using FrameMaker). We have several installations of FrameMaker 12.0.4.445 on Windows 7 64-bit. Two of our computers have a problem when trying to generate a QR code from the "Special" -> "Generate QR Code" menu item.Instead of bringing up the dialog box, it immediately gets an error "Empty config file: C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\12\qrconf.xml".This file does exist in that location. We checked the contents of the file against a machine that is working, and the file is identical between the working installation and the broken installation.

I see a lot of confusing information about how to create a link in your structured Frame file to a pdf file. I've tried several different approaches and none seem to work. One topic mentioned inserting a hypertext element in a prepared area, but I can't find any information about how to prepare that area, nor could I find information about when a hypertext element is available and valid for use. I also tried inserting as an xref with a relative path, and attempted to add the pdf to the ditamap and other embarrassing ideas. What is the best, easiest way to have an external pdf open from a pdf generated from structured frame file?

Hello all,I don't know why, but for a week now FrameMaker has been changing my indentation automatically sometimes when I bring in new content or change content. While this normally would not be a big deal, it will not led me change it back (at least not by dragging the arrows on the ruler, which is how I'm used to doing it). The only way I have been able to fix it is to start from scratch all over again on whatever document it does it, which is obviously a big waste of time. So, two questions:1) How do I fix it when this happens2) How to stop it from happening.Thanks in advance.EDIT:  Closed FrameMaker to do something else and when I reopened it, it was fixed. Is this simply a bug that can be fixed by restarting FrameMaker?  If so, I wish I had known that before I redid a whole document last week...

Does anyone know of an enhanced Find/Change plug-in available for FrameMaker 12? I used to use a tool called SuperFind back in the FrameMaker 7 days. With SuperFind, you could load a text file with any number (hundreds or even thousands!) of search and replace terms and run them all in series on a document or book. It worked incredibly well, and it saved us innumerable hours in our edit reviews. Thanks!

I used a program called webworks ePublisherPro to create browser-based online help. When I access the output in IE it looks fine, but when accessed in google chrome, all the fonts and tables are messed up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not able to select and bold text. I used the conventional methods as I did in the last few Frame versions, but the text is not bolded. Any suggestions? We may need to leave Frame - this is a fairly big deal.

With so many development teams adopting the Agile process, documenting these features that are being worked on in parallel (often by multiple teams, even though the writer is tasked with incorporating all their work!), I need a way to work on separate branches of docuemntation of the same book (and sometimes the same chapter file in a book) so I can also work in parallel, but incorporate, generate and release changes sequentially.Am I the only writer with this problem or am I just not using the right search terms?

I have a table with 10 columns and 2 body rows. Before the script is run, cell 1 in the first table row (which contains text) is straddled over all cells in the row (cells 1-10). My script so far deletes the second row then unstraddles the top row and restraddles it over cells 1-7, leaving 3 cells unstraddled (cells 8,9 & 10)I then want to straddle these 3 cells together (straddle cell 8 over 8, 9 and 10) and shade them. Below is the script I have so far which gets me as far as selecting the three cells to be straddled and shaded. Is it possible to straddle and shade a selection? I have downloaded the trial version of Framemaker 2015 and have come across a couple of problems using Arabic language support in structured Framemaker.1) You cannot select the Arabic language for the spell checker in the font properties when writing the EDD rules. It is there if you manually select it from the paragraph designer, but the bottom two languages are not available in the select menu when creating the EDD.2) Text flow, works fine if you want the whole paragraph to flow from left-right or right-left, but what if you have a couple of English words separated by a space that you need to flow left-right in a right-left paragraph (e.g. a company name). By having the paragraph flow on a separate tab in the paragraph designer is is not accessible using the character designer to override text properties using an inline element.Nice to see that you can now box out a paragraph of text with a highlight color.ThanksTony

I want to use Roman Numeral page numbers in the preface, but normal numbers in the document (not book).  How do I set up a "first pages" section for Roman Numerals?  Using FM 10I have  Mastering the Basics of (and More) of Adobe FM 10, by Janet Underwood, but cannot find anything in there that helps. HelloI am using FM 11 on some pre-existing files I inherited.These had some two-column tables (no header) with unique colors defined for left and right columns, to be used as a heading on a page.The original author used CMYK color definitions throughout which ended up looking extremely bright in PDF.I have since defined new colors with web-safe RGB values and updated the table definition to use these in the table designer.Existing tables will not accept/display the changes in color when I "Update All".  I can't even change to some other color and Apply. I can't even set the shading to None and have it turn off. Nothing happens to that table.New tables that I insert using the same table format show the new color definitions and accept changes Applied to them if needed.I do not believe I have any overrides on these tables except forcing a few to appear at the top of a page, or setting the row height to minimum value. Is there a way to force all the overrides to be exposed/removed? U

I created a condition tag called FISH, and applied it in many places in many files. Now I wish it had been named DOG.Is there an easy way to change FISH to DOG in all files?I thought of doing this:create a new condition called DOG in one of the files,import conditional text tags from that file into the many other files,apply DOG to some text, then copy an instance of a DOG condition by Edit>CopySpecial>ConditionalTextSettings.Search the entire book for instances of ConditionalText = FISH, and Change By Pasting.Would that work?If it would work, FISH would remain, and I'd have to delete it from every file. Is this still the best way of doing it?Thanks, people.

I have a table that is breaking to the next page, thus leaving blank page. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Hi, I am working in Adobe FrameMaker 11 (unstructured). Is there a way to place a text frame and have that content populate into the header area of subsequent pages?  In other words, if I have a Publication Date:______ and Publication Number:_______ in two different areas in two text frames on my cover page and (whatever I put in there) I want that specific date and publication number to auto-populate to a header in subsequent pages, is there a way to set that?  If so, is it set in the master pages or can that be created directly in the body pages?Thank you for any help that could be provided.Brad

I publish technical books for customers using Framemaker 12, converting the file to .PS, then distilling to .pdf. For books that are too large, I use the Aerialist Plug-In to split the chapters for faster web viewing. Recently, some customers have installed Acrobat DC and now cannot open the chapters of the split books (the "book" loads, but when they click on a bookmark/chapter, it does not allow them to view). Our customer service team is instructing those customers to reinstall Acrobat XI which has solved the problem, but it's unfortunate they have to do this.Any ideas of a workaround for the DC users to successfully view my split books without having to re-install XI? Is there something else I can do in my process?

I have been searching all over the Internet.I am trying to add a variable that would do a total page count of the full document.. while this is not unusual for a request, the book is not a continuous numbering system.For my cover I need a total number of pages included in the book. However each chapter has its own unique set of numbering.For example:Cover- 1 pageTOC- 2 pages       Where the page number generation for this chapter would be done under numbering, using the "First Page #: 1 Format: Roman (xi)"Chapter A-  this has 10 pages total, but the page numbers are a supplement to a previous edition, and would be pages 13-23. This has been very annoying.  Something as simple as putting a video into a framemaker document shouldn't cause me such a hassle!  I loaded a video into framemaker 12 (it was a Windows Media file).  I converted it to FLV.  I set the graphic name.  I set the poster image.  Below the video I typed the word Play and set the link to graphic as play.  Then I clicked return and typed the word Pause and set the link to graphic as pause.  Then I clicked return and typed the word Rewind and set the link to graphic as rewind. Then I clicked return.When I saved as PDF, the PDF document did not play the video, nor did the play, pause, rewind functions work!!  I got a message that my flash player is not up to date (but it is!!).  I reinstalled flash player again anyway and it still didn't work!!!  Then I wasted 2 hours on the phone with two different Adobe guys who couldn't figure it out either!!!When published as a WMA, it plays, but the user
