FrameMaker

We are using FrameMaker 12 (unstructured) on a Windows 7 platform.I have created a book whose structure looks like this:Book_____Cover_____TOC_____Chapter 1_____Chapter 2_____Etc. chapterWe are trying to use the standard left and right running headers.The left header = Running H/F 1 = <$paratext[Title]> = Title in the "Cover" file of the book.The right header = Running H/F 2 = <$paratext[Heading 1]> = The chapter name in each "Chapter" file in the book.The right running header populates properly. The left running header is empty.This is what I have tried to troubleshoot:Verified that the title of the book in the cover file is set to a "Title" paragraph tag. (It is.)Saved each file/chapter and updated the book.Tried to force the even page header manually using Format > Page Layout > Master Page Usage, but it doesn't stick.The configuration on the Master Page Usage window is the same for even or odd pages:Use Master Page = Right/Left is selected.Apply To = Current Page

Hi,I have a few paragraphs that I need to number as chronological tasks. For it to look readable there needs to be a space between each paragraph.However, when I format the paragraphs as a numbered list, FM9 inserts numbers in the spaces. I have tried all sorts of combinations but cannot fix it.Can anyone help?

I recently purchased a new computer with Windows 8.1. When I installed my FrameMaker 10 application on it, I anticipated it would display the "license has expired" error message, so I downloaded the patch. Unfortunately, the patch isn't updating FrameMaker as it did on my Windows 7 computer. What should I do to make it work in Windows 8.1? Thanks.Janet

Hello everyone,I am using FrameMaker 12 on a Windows 7 SP1 environment.I am working on a training guide in FM. We are supposed to use .5" x .5" icons in the document as visual indicators to instructors on what is supposed to be happening in the training delivery (there are icons for questions, dialog, demonstrations, lab exercises, tips, etc.).I would like to put each icon graphic on the Reference Page, and set it to its own paragraph style. Then, on the Body Page, put the mouse pointer where I would like the graphic, click the icon's style, and have FM bring the graphic from the Reference Page and have it automatically aligned against the left margin with the runaround properties already set.Is there a way to do that?I am only a moderate FM user, so if there is a way to do this, please provide detailed steps.Thank you in advance for any suggestions.Tim

We have a lot of content that includes underscores and when we use the track text edit feature added text is green and underlined. How can I change the properties of the added text to not be underlined?

I ran into this issue earlier this week with one book, and I have suddenly seen it happen with another.We moved from Frame 10 (where all worked fine) to Frame 12.  Run an update of the doc, and for some reason, the auto-numbers in the TOC seem to assume that each chapter is only a single page or two pages long.  But when you open the chapters they are longer than that.  Within the chapter numbering seems to continue fine, until you open the next chapter and it says it's one page beyond the first page of the last chapter. What up, Framemaker?  Nothing has changed at the chapter level in these files from when I last ran an update in Frame 10.Anyone else seeing this issue?

I am creating a flow chart and have to move some objects around. I have an arrow that I believe I set as "send to back" that I cannot select in order to delete it.Any way of doing this?Thanks

This file will be ignored while FrameMaker updates the book."Nonsense, of course, but I notice the file in question (not always the same file) temporarily loses its .fm icon in the book panel.My guess would be, network problems slowing the writing of updates; any comments before I mildly mention this to our IT Support?

Hello, I am a beginner in ExtendScript and I need to outsource the graphics of my docs. I wish to create a file .fm for each graph found in the doc to be able to generate the images apart and not have to rebuild for each change of doc. I advance slowly with the docs and examples that I found but I still can not do what I want. Is there a way to search in FrameMaker 10 for broken (ie: red + symbols or red boxes) structure in a book?It seem like the only way to find broken structure is by viewing the structure tree of each document.I would like to be able to search for broken structure, using some kind of search parameter in the book.Is that possible?Thanks!

Is there a way in FrameMaker 10 to search for a missing opening or closing parenthesis?Must I do a search for each opening parenthesis and see if it has a closing parenthesis?Then repeat the search for a closing parenthesis to see if it has an opening parenthesis?Is this the only way?

Is there a way to search in FrameMaker 10 for missing periods in a book?Is there some kind of wildcard, such as:a/p (/p meaning end of paragraph)b/pc/petc?Then search for each letter and end of paragraph.Is that possible?Thanks!

Using FrameMaker 12, I have to create a TOC inside a table. That means, 1st column must contains the paragraphs number, 2nd column the paragraphs text, 3rd column the page numbers. Of course, each element must fill each table cell. I have uploaded an example.Thank you for your helpNicolas

My techcomm group hasn't updated Frame in a while, obviously. I'm the "guinea pig" to test how our docs work with the newest version of Frame. However, I still need to be able to work in and save existing documents for other users -- coworkers who still have Frame 7 -- to work in them.So... can I?

Hi, I'm trying to discover how to setup a Silent install for Framemaker 12.  It doesn't appear as if the AAMEE works with Framemaker, as it only works for the Creative Suite apps; is there a similar customizable installer for the Technical Communication Suite apps?  I will be deploying Framemaker as a packaged install via SCCM, so I need to be able to silently install it without the endusers having to input the license key or activate it.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I need to convert a large doc from Word to FM11. I have imported it and am ready to start cleaning it up, but it needs a lot of retagging because all of the styles/tags aren't the same. Global update isn't working, and I think it's because all the tags are identified as overrides [they have an *]. Is there a way out of retagging these manually? Thanks for any help!

Printing my Text with referenced pictures as PDF-file and sending this to the printer, I have get a hardcopy a good quality but sending it to the same printer directly from FrameMaker the pictures are more or less in preview-quality. Did I miss to change some FrameMaker-settings or what is wrong?

We need to buy Adobe Framemaker version 11. The distributor is only able to provide us with version 12. Can someone suggest me how is it possible to get the license for ver 11 serial  key after purchasing ver 12 and also how to get the download details ?   Urgent response will be helpful.D

I'm running FM 11 on the following Windows 7 machine:Core i7 with 16Gb RAMI also have the following CC apps installed:PhotoshopInDesignIllustratorPremiere ProI was working on a FM doc yesterday no problem. Today FM seems to be totally unresponsive, apart from being able to open, save and close books and or files. I can't enter text, scroll down a page or use the navigation keys. No other Adobe apps seem to have been affected. Anyone else had this issue?Mark

I've installed and registered TCS 5.0. RH 11 works just fine, but FM 12 doesn't work: when I open FM, I see the splash screen, but it then fails. Updating to 12.02 made no difference.Suggestions, please? Hi, we are now using TortoiseSVN, which is free. I wonder if there is any better solutions? I checked FM Guide, there are three: Adobe Eexperience Manager, EMC Documentum, MS SharePoint. What is your reccommendation? BTW, is AEM free?

The process to log in and gain access to new licenses is not intuitive through the log in process.  Where do I find the licenses purchased and authorize use for our Agency partner?
