FrameMaker

Hallo,wenn ich eine FramMaker Datei aus dem lokalen Dropbox-Ordner öffne, dann kann ich in FrameMaker weder Speichern noch Speichern unter anklicken. Beim Schließen der Datei werde ich gefragt, ob ich speichern will. Es speichert dann wieder in Dropbox. Ich kann die Datei aber nicht auf einem anderen Ordner auf dem PC speichern. Das ging bisher ohne Probleme.Ich arbeite auf meinem PC in Italien und ein Kollege arbeitet auf meinem PC in Deutschland. Wir haben beim Synchronisieren mit Dropbox Probleme. Einmal funktioniert es und dann wieder nicht.Wer kann helfen???

At work I have been thrown into the role of becoming the Framemaker expert. I'm familiar with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, but brand new with FM and trying to figure it out. (I'm using version 16.0.4.1062.) We have many documents that need to be updated that were formatted by my predecessor. They all have, at the top of page 1, a text frame with title information. At the bottom is a text frame containing the document text that flows to the following pages. I need to first export them as .rtf files so that others can open them in MS Word and redline the changes. This is working fine. However, several of the .rtf files have the title information at the very end of the document instead of at the beginning. In Framemaker, those documents display correctly with the title at the top of page 1. But when I look at the Navigation View, the title is at the end of the list instead of the beginning. So I believe this is why the .rtf document isn't correct. Is there a way I c

Hi, all. There are times where I would like to set the dimensions and position of frames manually (x, y), as can be done with objects. However, I can find no way to do this (with text frames, for example). How do people apply/create specific layouts without being able to set (and view) frame position to specific requirements? What am I missing? Thanks, in advance; I appreciate the help!

When 2022 was released, I complained that the colors of the icons are all the same. Book and fm files are indistinguishable from one another.  Adobe promised this would be fixed in the first update. But now I have the first update and it is  not fixed. Or is it? Is this what it looks like for everybody else or is it just my install?    

Hi, In FM2022, I'm trying to retrieve via a script the text of all XRef of a document. The problem is, the content is an autonumbering ($paranum) and, for every note, the property XRefSrcText contains only the Unique ID (no ":" inside, as supposed, so no source file, and no content text). I can access the source file via the property XRefFile, but not the text (even via the method GetText(), but I'm not sure I understand this one correctly). By the way, all the references are resolved and displaying the right number in FM. I know that it is not supposed to be done, since it's a number generated by Framemaker, but my client wants it writen in the XML export as it is in the PDF export...   Thanks in advance for any help ! I need to proofread FrameMaker files for a book translation. I have version 7.2 and I want to install it on my Mac Book Pro (M1). First I downloaded Parallels Desktop and tried to install FrameMaker. At the last stage the warning "Your registration number is no longer valid" appears and the installation does not finish. How can I solve this issue?Thank you very much.Şükrü Hatun, Istanbul

We recently had to update our FrameMaker generated user guide (over 500 pages, 100s of graphics) and updated to a newer version of FrameMaker to do so (FM 2017 release). Now, we are finally at the point where we need to publish the PDF. And have run across a number of issues. 1. Save as PDF fails. Always. It spins for minutes on end, then FM crashes, leaving all .fm files locked. Sometimes a .tps file is created.2. Print Book has had issues as well. There are a number of settings that MUST be set before this (sort of) succeeds. Print Book and Print to File as .ps file fails to generate the .ps file IF the destination is on a mapped drive. I don't know if this is possiable but her we go.I have a manual that ahs been updated many times. Soome of the documents in the manual are years old and there are several versions. I want to export/copy the list of documents and put them in Excel to sort and then clear some of these files.Does anyone know how to copy this list and put it in an excel file?

Hi,I imported a Word document with lots of tables into unstructured FrameMaker 2020, and the tables are not aligning properly. The are positioned outside the page parameters. The tables have landed near the middle of the pages and the right sides are not where they should be. I don't know how to fix this. I would appreciate any advice/help for this issue. Thank you.      

I've been working to get FrameMaker (Win11) and RoboHelp (MacOS version) to run on an ARM-based processor. (FrameMaker works, except for PDF workflows, with some system hacks covered elsewhere in this forum. RoboHelp for MacOS churns at the initialization screen).   Adobe has communicated on this forum that these products are not supported on ARM-based processors. But I've been a bit mystified trying interpret this from the product system requirements. For FrameMaker, Adobe says (https://helpx.adobe.com/framemaker/help/fm_system_requirements.html😞 Core i5 or faster processor RoboHelp says (https://helpx.adobe.com/robohelp/using/rh_system_requirements.html😞 Intel Core i5 or faster processor (recommended)   I think there's a discrepancy between what Adobe means and what they say (certainly ARM processors are faster than Intel Core i5s). Should Adobe consider specifying the Intel requirement as "Intel processor, Core i5 or faster recommended"?   -Alan Ho

I am working with DITA template design right now and I am constantly annoyed by the design of the PDF Publish dialogue for DITA. So here is my suggestion https://tracker.adobe.com/#/view/FRMAKER-12699 Make the Publish dialogue window scalable so you don't have to scroll in order to see all templates Make the dialogue showing the template file name large enough that it does not truncate the name. Substitute the "name box" with a proper window showing the entire url so it is transparant which file is being used for which template. Please vote if you like 🙂

In the FrameMaker User Guide, System requirements topic, there is a note that says:Maximum supported screen resolution: 4K (3480 × 2160).The 3480 is a typo, because 4K is twice 1920 × 1080, which is 3840 × 2160).This is FrameMaker (2022 release), Version 17.0.0.226. It shows September 29, 2022.

I'm finding moving tables (cutting and pasting them) to be difficult.  The only way I can seem to select the table for cutting is to find the text symbol of its placement in the document, then click and drag over the symbol until the table is shown as highlighted.  I then cut and paste it elsewhere.  The problem is I usually end up cutting and pasting one or more characters adjacent to the table symbol, like newlines.  I then have to re-add the accidentally cut characters at the cut location and delete the extra characters at the paste location.  Is there a better way to move JUST the table?I am using "float" for the placement of the tables.  Another problem with this is trying to find the place where the table is inserted in the text.  If I have several tables on the same page, I have to highlight the various insert position text symbols in the text until the desired table is highlighted.  Why can't I just use the mouse to drag over the table to

We've been doing several books with multiple documents in each book; up until now, TOC creation has been pretty easy; select the book, create standalone TOC, select which paragraph tags to include, and then apply or import formats, edit reference pages, etc. For whatever reason, the book we just finished pulls in all of the para tags we designate EXCEPT Level1Tag2, and it ONLY fails to do this when we try to make a TOC for the entire book. If we make separate standalone TOCs for each document in the book, each document TOC brings in the Level1Tag2 and includes it. It's only when we try to do the whole book that it fails. Every other tag we select gets pulled without problem. Any ideas what might be causing this and how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Hi,A previous writer created a Product Name variable, and three books share a cover page. When I edit the Product Name variable and change the name, it applies that name to the cover page throughout all the books. Is there a way to use the Product Name variable and make each book's cover page different? Is there something I am doing wrong?? Thank you for any help. Cheers,Elizabeth  

We just updated our Adobe Pro 2017 to Adobe Pro DC and some of the internally created job options we have installed  using Microtype Timesavers do not work.  This happens when using the Distiller.  Is Microtype Timesavers a thing anymore?  My Google search came up with only out of date websites for them.  Someone in our department created a special job option with the Timesavers (plugin) so that certain pdfs would automatically put a bookmark link to an external website and set up the other bookmarks to two levels.  Naturally, this person is long gone. What say you fellow FrameMaker users? 

We're running into another bug with the HTML5 conversion in Frame. This time, if a URL ends in .pdf, it is converted so that the HTML points to <a href="../assets/"> instead of the URL. However, if the hypertext marker and text are in a TABLE, the URL is converted correctly. I can't think of any logical reason for this behavior and can find no relevant settings of any kind that might affect the URLs in this manner. Has anyone else had this issue? Or can confirm that this issue happens for them? We've run testing on 15 different machines, people, browsers, etc. and it happens all the time.  We've opened a bug report here: https://tracker.adobe.com/#/view/FRMAKER-12619. 

HelloI installed FrameMaker 8.0 on Windows 11. Installed also Frame_Patcher_8_p266, Frame_Patcher_8_p273, Frame_Patcher_8_p277. If I started FrameMaker in Admin mode, the question for "Frame Maker" / "Structured Frame Maker" appears. Pressed "Frame Maker", but then nothing happen. I can see in the Task Manager that FrameMaker is running as a process.Read some posts in this community that FrameMaker is not working with Windows 11. Further then read that newer Version of FrameMaker do work with Windows 11. Interesting is, that a coworker on Windows 11 confirmed he can work with FrameMaker 8.0 on his Windows 11, but he installed FrameMaker 8.0 on Windows 10 and upgraded Windows 10 to Windows 11.Tried already the follwing  hints:- Deleting C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\8.0- Run all installations in Admin Mode- Used AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerToolSo far, none of these helped to get FM workingAny hint suggestions to get my FrameMaker 8.

 How can I generate an IOM list of Acronyms with classification markings in front of them? I design and develop templates for FrameMaker. These are standard designs which are premade and usable for whatever purpose you have in mind. I could need some input, however, as to what you would look for if you were to purchase a premade design. Would you look for design aspects like page size, colors and typography or would you look for content/function aspects like User Guide, Instructions, Study book? Or would you look for a content standards like medical/medico/airplane/etc.?   And what would you need to make certain that you are on the right track? A sample User Guide in the design or samples showing all the paragraph designs and building block functions?   Please take a look at these pdf's where I try to communicate the design of a template. I have some very old (1994) Framemaker files. The first line is <MakerFile 4.0K>so I presume they are FrameMaker 4 files. They contain text, tables, and diagrams, iirc.Does anyone know how I can read them or translate to, say, pdf??

I have a script to open a series of documents with tables in each.  It's been working fine until I disabled some of the FrameMaker fonts I never use (Asian fonts per an earlier post).  Now one of my documents won't open from the script.  When I try to open it, the console pops open saying the "MinionPro-Regular" Font is not available.  "Times New Roman" will be used in this session.  I've used the paragraph designer and character designer to  apply the "Times New Roman font to my entire document, but still doesn't work.  Any suggestions?

Hi All,Does Framemaker allow 'find and change' of paragraph tags at a book level? For example, can I replace 'Heading1' with a different paragraph tag like 'Heading 1 with indent', throughout the book? The Find/Change menu,  in the drop-down menu under 'Find' section, allows selection of Paragraph Tag along with a text line where one can specify the Tag. However in the 'Change' section of the Find/Change menu, one cannot find a similar drop-down selection for the new Paragraph Tag.So how are paragraph tags changed throughout the book?
